2 very big news items from baseball today...

FINALLY! Somebody in Lin-Manuel Miranda's family is successful!  After a very slow start, cousin Juan is up to .276 and slugging .477 with 10 homers.

AND...

An out man played LF for the Dodgers today (and did very well) and there was no controversy or hullabalu whatsoever.

I have met many members of his family, so please explain, @samhexum

I just meant that a family with no history of anyone being a success in life would enjoy this defensively-challenged hitting savant's rookie breakout.

Unfortunately, the relatives of  the star of "Hamilton"  do not have the same last names

After missing out on Juan Soto, the Dodgers made a deal for a consolation prize...  Joey Gallo.

The return (their #15 prospect) probably seems inconsequential, but remember, they once traded for reliever Josh Fields and gave up some guy named Yordan Alvarez, and traded for reliever Tony Watson, giving up O'neill Cruz (who IS named after Paul, btw), so you never know...

Uh... wanna guess who the Yanks traded for to upgrade their CF defense... that is, if he returns from the IL this season? Odd time for the Yanks to trade a starter for an injured player.

The  Cardinals have five gold glove fielders - three in the infield  and two in the outfield

St. Louis Cardinals Gold Glove center fielder Harrison Vader was a substitute teacher at an elementary school near St. Louis a few days ago - filling in because of covid19 for the regular teachers.

He is also pretty sexy

New Yankee reliever Scott Effross

(the one wearing the tie & a flower in his lapel)

Scott Effross is Jewish, attended Shir Shalom Synagogue in Ohio and wears a Star of David around his neck on days he pitches.

And in an odd twist, a day later, the Yankees acquired a second Jewish player, Harrison Bader from the Cardinals. Bader has already committed to playing for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic in March, 2023.

No doubt that this website's very own Rabbi Hy would be very proud of the 2 boys and the Yankees.

Sadly, these days it seems easier to find a Jewish NY Yankee than a Jewish escort willing to provide Bozo with a holiday discount.

Perhaps if their baseball careers fizzle out, one of these two players will turn to escorting as a viable option. Bozo is willing to wait.

DeJong has been DeMoted so he is probably DeJected and DePressed.

(DeJong was not a gold glove winner, another reason why he is probably DeJected and DePressed.)

Why is a demotion of a veteran baseball player an occasion for a  silly 😜 joke?

The Yanks are probably DeJected and DePressed after his game-winning 2-run double last night.

“It’s not easy for us right now,’’ Boone said of his team, which is 70-36, but is just 12-16 over the last 28 games.

One thing to remember:  the great 1998 team actually started 1-4 and they could never quite get to the point where they had the best record ever after 'x' amount of games (the 1984 Tigers started 35-5) until they got to 92-30... and they immediately lost 6 straight and went 12-16 before finishing 10-2 to wind up with 114 wins.

First entry for the weirdest injury of the year category...

Jonathan Villar was placed on the 10-day IL after suffering a mouth injury while working out. Villar had an exercise band snap back into his mouth, suffering an injury that will require significant dental work.

and the next entry...

The Tampa Bay Rays already have 15 players on the injured list. Now pitching coach Kyle Snyder might be on the shelf, too.

Snyder injured himself walking toward the mound to visit ace Shane McClanahan during the seventh inning of a 9-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.

The 44-year-old Snyder had to return to the dugout, and manager Kevin Cash went out to speak with McClanahan instead.

"He pulled a calf muscle -- pulled it, strained it, popped it -- we haven't gotten the final injury report yet," Cash said. "I had to step up."

Matt Carpenter receives several standing ovations in his return to St Louis. Saturday nights game between New York and St Louis set an attendance record for the Cardinals ballpark

Apparently you jinxed Matt 'Oh, why didn't @WilliamM use a nickname or me?' Carpenter.

He struck out in his 1st AB, then was pinch-hit for by light-hitting Tim Locastro.  He probably strained an oblique swinging and will be out a month the way things are going lately.  Rizzo's missed 4 games (& counting) because of his back, the second time that's happened this year.  Stanton still isn't back.  Yankee fans are going to start clamoring for Benintendi to be traded for Joey Gallo any day now the way he's been 'hitting'.

And that bum Harrison Bader STILL doesn't have a hit a week after the trade.

Goldschmidt batted third for St Louis, so Matt Carpenter was a bit overshadowed.

Matt ' @WilliamM fucked everything up by not using a nickname for me ' Carpenter fouled a ball off his foot, fracturing it.

So if you're a former Cardinal in need of podiatric care, you have a place on the Yankees.

One of the most fun things about baseball is how utterly bizarre it can be...  The Padres won the first game Soto played for them & now have lost 5 straight, the last two by shutout.  It's entirely possible that they miss the playoffs (which would be hilarious).  At the moment they're the 3rd wildcard, just ahead of Milwaukee.
