With the White Sox having so many injuries some players on the team are under orders to not run too hard to first base on a routine ground ball so they don't get injured! 😅

For the second time in their history, the Astros pitched a combined no-hitter versus the Yankees.

Two days ago the Yankees came from behind in the ninth in an exciting victory over Houston. That was as fun to watch as today's no-hitter was painful.

‘Holy cow!’: Glendale street corner named after Yankee legend Phil Rizzuto

Councilmember Robert Holden, state elected officials and other organizations unveiled a plaque named “Phil ‘Scooter’ Rizzuto Corner” in Rizzuto’s hometown on Sunday. Rizzuto was raised in Glendale.

On top of building a legacy on the baseball field, Rizzuto served his country during the Second World War. He missed three seasons while serving in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed at Norfolk Naval Training Station in 1943 and later led a crew in the Pacific.  He contracted malaria while in New Guinea and was sent to Australia to recover at a U.S. Navy hospital. While there he started baseball tournaments for wounded sailors.

Later in life, Rizzuto raised millions of dollars for St. Joseph’s School for the Blind through his annual celebrity golf tournament and donated his earnings from commercials and book deals.

Wonderful to see retired Philadelphia Phillies star Ryan Howard honoring the Cardinals'  Albert Pujols tonight.

Also, great seeing Paul Goldsmith and Nolan Aranado gat six hits between them.

Two players who came to St Louis in trades

Aranado hit for the cycle for the second time in his career

Sunday's almost no-hitter was also painful to watch...until Aaron Judge hit a tenth inning walk-off home run!

Houston sure has a good team.

Amazing and scary stat:  The Astros just played 9 games in a row against the NY teams.  When that stretch began, the Mets had the 2nd best record, behind the Yanks.  Houston went 7-2 and the only times they trailed in the 9 games were after Aaron Judge's 2 walk-off hits.

Cristian Javier followed up his 7 hitless innings with 1 BB & 13 Ks in the combined no-hitter thusly: He retired the first 2 Angels, gave up a HR to Clark Kent Ohtani, then retired the last 19 he faced.  14 total Ks.  Last 2 starts:  14 IP, 1H, 1R, 1BB, 27 Ks.

When McCullers comes back, Javier's their 4th starter.

My powers haven't had many chances to manifest lately, but in a rare start in game 1 of today's twinbill Matt 'Has No Formal Training As A' Carpenter went 3-5 with 2 homers & 4 RBI.

My name-of-the-days have spurred him to a .293/.420/.902 slash line with 8 HR in 41 AB.

BTW, Joey Gallo may be the worst hitter in MLB right now, but his ABs are still somewhat enjoyable to watch, as long as the Yanks are winning.

He's 6'5 with a decent face and the squarest broad shoulders on the team.  When he gets into his stance you can see he has muscular thighs.  His right side faces the camera and his right nipple is usually poking out beneath his shirt, even in warm weather.  When his shirt is clinging to his torso you can see he has some pec definition.

Now if he could just get a hit once a week...

The adorable one hit the first of 4 consecutive StL HRs in the 1st inning today.

BTW, the Cards lost that game in which he hit for the cycle, and they are now tied 5-5 today after their 5 run top of the 1st.

(LATER)

The adorable one just homered again leading off the top of the 9th to break a 6-6 tie.  The 7-6 lead held up.

The Angels have become infinitely less attractive.  They have designated Tyler Wade for assignment.

He surpassed three years of MLB service time last year, allowing him to qualify for arbitration for the first time. He and the Angels agreed to a salary of $825K, just a bit north of the $700K league minimum. The Angels will have one week to trade him or put him through waivers. Should he clear waivers, he would be eligible to reject an outright assignment and return to free agency, by virtue of having surpassed three years’ service time. However, doing so would mean forfeiting the remainder of his salary, as players need more than five years’ service to reject an assignment while still being guaranteed the money owed to them through their contracts.

So they'll likely still have him at AAA.

Yes, the Cardinals lost that game. However the St Louis Cardinals are second  only to the Yankees in World Series wins

The Yankees cannot get rid of Joey Gallo fast enough for me. He's creepy.

Sorry, Tyler Wade.

Yankees at Pittsburgh tonight. There is only one advertising billboard behind home plate. You see it when the camera focuses on the batter. It says:

Jesus Forgave Errors

New starting corner outfielder Matt 'I hadn't started in the outfield in 9 years' Carpenter (RF last night, LF tonight) went 3-4 with a double and (of course) a HR tonight.

Aaron Hicks is hitting quite well recently.  Aaron Judge is not.

Methinks God is trying to tell MLB that he/she/they is/are Jewish.

The Bosox are the only team with 2 Christians this season (Arroyo, Vasquez).  They have had constant starting pitching injuries and might not make the playoffs. (They play the Yanks 14 more times).  The A's have a Christian (Bethancourt) and are  probably the worst team this season.  They recently demoted Cristian Pache.

And don't get me started on the travails of the 4th place Marlins and their 3 Jesuses...

The two teams with the longest current winning streaks (the O's & Tigers) have neither a Christian nor a Jesus on their rosters.  Just sayin'...

Yes.  As is former Yankee Rob Refsnyder, who had 4 hits for the Bosox tonight.

BTW, Aaron Hicks is the father of Tiger Woods' great nephew...  meaning the son of Tiger's niece.  It's too soon to tell if he's great.

The Rays have acquired Christian Bethancourt in return for 2 minor leaguers, one of whom is also a Christian!

The Tigers were blown out today and for the second time this year they asked position player Kody Clemens to pitch.  I wonder why they think of him when they need a pitcher...

The Phillies have overtaken the Cards for the 3rd wildcard spot and today they were nursing a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th. Cory Knebel, who lost the closer spot due to too many blown saves, came on and walked the 1st man, then an error was made to give the Cards 1st & 3rd with nobody out... so, of course, Knebel got out of it and the Phils are now 2 games up on them, 3 in the loss column.

The Cardinals best defensive player in the four games series was  Ryan Carlson.

The Jays have had an advantage at home this season against every team but the Yanks and 1 other because Canada's vaccination laws have left teams playing without assorted unvaccinated players when they visit, but this is ridiculous...

Ten Kansas City Royals players, including four of their top hitters and their best two starting pitchers this season, will not travel to Toronto for this week's four-game series with the Blue Jays because they have not received the COVID-19 vaccination.

The vaccine requirement for border-crossing travel into Canada will affect outfielder Andrew Benintendi, super utilityman Whit Merrifield, catcher MJ Melendez, first baseman/outfielder Hunter Dozier, right-hander Brad Keller, right-hander Brady Singer, center fielder Michael A. Taylor, outfielder Kyle Isbel, reliever Dylan Coleman and catcher Cam Gallagher.

IN OTHER NEWS...

Walk-off 3 run HR for Lin-Manuel's cousin today.  After an awful start, he's hitting .260/.299/.463
