More than a month into the 2022 Major League Baseball season, some East Coast/West Coast history is being made.

Both New York teams -- the Mets and Yankees -- and both Los Angeles teams -- the Angels and Dodgers -- are on pace to win 100-plus games. But even more historic: All four teams are in first place in their respective divisions -- the first time that has happened in MLB history.

The Mets and Angels are not historic baseball teams like the Red Sox and Cardinals.

The Yankees cut 2019 third-round pick Jake Sanford last Thursday for allegedly stealing from his minor league teammates and scamming people for money online.

According to a source, the 24-year-old outfielder was released last week after a team investigation found Sanford had stolen from teammates, including equipment that he would then try to sell online, as first reported by NJ Advance Media

Additionally, a source said Sanford, who played college baseball at Western Kentucky, also accepted money from prospective buyers for the equipment then failed to deliver the products.

The issues, another source said, could be related to gambling debts.

The Yankees declined to comment on the situation.

According to one AL scout, Sanford was not considered an elite prospect, which likely made it easier for the franchise to cut ties with him.

He was drafted in 2019 and received a signing bonus of $597,500.

The outfielder split last season between Low-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley, and hit a combined 16 homers and finished an OPS of .823.

He made his professional debut in 2019 season before the 2020 minor league season was canceled due to COVID-19.

After he was released last week, Sanford deactivated his Twitter account.

The lefty-swinging Sanford has since signed with the Ottawa Titans in the Frontier League, an independent team.

Yankees prospect Jake Sanford was reportedly cut by the team for stealing from teammates.

Six former Philadelphia Phillies players have died of brain cancer, and a doctor has said a potential link should be investigated.

Former Phillies pitcher David West died of brain cancer this past week at the age of 57, renewing the question of whether the phenomenon of several former players who played for the team at Veterans Stadium dying of brain cancer was coincidental.

West’s death from the disease followed catcher Darren Daulton’s in 2017, infielder John Vukovich’s passing in 2007, catcher Johnny Oates’ 2004 death and those of pitcher Tug McGraw in 2004 and pitcher Ken Brett in 2003.

“It’s a cluster, and it needs to be examined. The amount of incidents of deadly brain cancer are about three out of 100,000. This is three or four times that or more,” Dr. Marc Siegel, a Fox News contributor and Professor of Medicine at the NYU Langone Medical Center told “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday.

Dr. Siegel advocated for researching whether, given that five out of six of these players were pitchers or catchers, exposure to radar guns at Veterans Stadium might have played a factor. He also cited chemicals in AstroTurf as a potential issue worth exploring.

“I am not saying that’s what it is — in addition to the AstroTurf, which had a lot of chemicals — they’ve got to look more at that radar gun. It’s a possibility,” Siegel said, mentioning the military has done research on frequent exposure to microwaves.

In 2003, when Daulton was diagnosed with brain cancer, Larry Bowa who played, managed or coached the Phillies for 24 years, wondered if there was a link.

“Yeah, it’s very scary,” Bowa said. “I know cancer is a big illness in our society, but to have that many (Phillies) guys get brain cancer …

“I’m not trying to blame anybody. It’s just sort of strange that that can happen to one team playing at the Vet.”

Yeah, but look what came with him: (I'd like to come with this guy)

It’s a good thing the Yankees traded for Jose Trevino.

Catching prospect Ben Rortvedt underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday to repair a partially torn meniscus, the team announced. The procedure went “as expected” and the 24-year-old

Rortvedt is expected to be ready to play in games within six-to-eight weeks.

The other night when Nathan Eovaldi gave up 5 HRs in one inning, one fan atop the Green Monster caught 2 of them.

Tonight, one night after Trevor Story broke out of an awful season-long slump with 3 HRs, he hit a grand slam, which was caught by former Bosox & Rays player Jonny Gomes.

So...  can the rest of the fans actually catch any?

Albert Pujols is only 19 home runs shy of 700.

I don't see him reaching 700 unfortunately. His high since 2016 was 23 HRs in 2017 and 2019 but that was also when he was still playing in almost every game. To reach 700 would mean 21 total homers this year in roughly 80 to 90 games.

Relief pitcher Albert Pujols almost blew it for the Cards tonight, giving up 4 with 2 out in the 9th, as the team barely held on to edge the Giants 15-6.

Renowned lousy relief pitcher Albert Pujols pinch hit for the adorable Nolan Arenado in today's 18-4 rout of the Pirates and homered, then stayed in the game and hit another.   He now has four, and is hitting .231.

St. Louis trotted out another overmatched reliever, some guy named Yadier, and he almost blew this game, turning an 18-0 rout into an 18-4 nailbiter before he finally finished it off.

Watching ESPN tonight, White Sox v. Yankees was painful. The broadcasters really aren't interested in the game. They love to hear themselves talk, and they do more interviews than calling the game. Plus the Yankees lost twice.

Judge, Trout and Ohtani hit homers today, so I liked that.

Albert has looked really good so far this year! To the point where I wonder if perhaps he'd play another year even though he said it'd be his last. He could be the Tom Brady of baseball.

Speaking of ancient, over-the-hill Cardinals hanging on by the skin of their teeth (beaks?), the Yanks have signed Matt 'Doesn't Sing Like Karen' Carpenter to a major league deal.  He's DHing & batting 8th tonight. He was raking in the minors for Texas, but they don't want oldsters on their team, so they let him go to pursue other opportunities.

Failed former phenom Manny Banuelos will also be with the team for their 4 game set in Tampon Tampa.

Matt Carpenter signed by Yankees

MLB and the union said March 31 that a 13-pitcher limit would be enforced starting May 2, then on April 16 announced the date had been pushed back to May 30. They said Thursday that the 13-pitcher limit will be enforced starting June 20, allowing each team to have 14 pitchers until then.

MLB and the union said the change was made as they continue to monitor player health.

Matt's spectacular HBP ignited a three run rally to break a scoreless tie in the 6th.  Nestor was back to being Nasty after giving up a season-high 3 runs last time out.  8 shutout innings, 3 hits, career high 105 pitches.  I can't believe Boone let him start the 9th.  He threw 4 more pitches, gave up a hit & left for Wandy Peralta, who let the runner score, making Cortes' ERA skyrocket to 1.70.

With their injuries & recent bullpen troubles they'd be in really bad shape if the starters hadn't been so brilliant lately.  Starting with their double header loss:

Taillon 7 IP, 1R

Severino 7 IP, 0R

Cole 8 IP 0BB  11K, but 5 runs because of one bad inning

Montgomery 6 IP + one batter, 2R

JP Sears 1st ML start  5 IP, 0R

The Nasty One  8 IP + one batter, 1R

Matt  carpenter has absolutely nothing to do with a singer with the same last name.

If she was a singer? I never heard of her.

My strategy worked brilliantly...  by mocking Matt 'Not as scary as Halloween director John' Carpenter, I enraged him and he took his anger out on the baseball, homering in his 2nd at-bat tonight.

You're welcome, fellow Yankee fans.

Meanwhile, the team's brilliant starting pitching run continues.  8 scoreless, 2 hits, no walks for Taillon tonight. In the last 7 games the runs allowed have been tremendous, but in today's baseball, the consistent innings thrown have been amazing. (and yes, @WilliamM, I know Bob Gibson threw 28 complete games in 1968... that was then, this is now)

Sears went 5 scoreless in his 1st start, otherwise the regular 5 starters have gotten into the 7th six times in a row, completed 7  five of those 6, completed 8 three of those 5.

7 game totals:  49 IP   9 runs   1.65  ERA, and 5 of the runs were allowed by their ace in one game.

Brendan Rodgers homered off Trevor Rogers tonight, in a battle to decide who spells their last name correctly.

He then gave the reliever Louis Head something to remember by going downtown on him.

Then he won it in the bottom of the 10th with his third of the game.

I am confused. Is this a spelling bee or a real discussion about sports?

What about Chris Carpenter who won a Cy Young Award?

Matt 'More Masculine Than Karen's Brother Richard' Carpenter led off the bottom of the first today by homering off Ohtani.  The game wasn't a fair fight as Shohei (3 IP, 4 R, 3.99 ERA) was facing The Nasty One (7 IP, 0 R, 1.50 ERA).

Bad choice of words from Twins broadcaster Jim Kaat. He was talking about the Twins facing Nestor Cortes and the Yankees next week and he called him "Nestor the Molester".
