There's a very sad trend of gay porn actors dying way too young. I don't know what's behind this trend but it's something that needs to be looked into.

There are multiple obvious reasons for that. Illegal drug use. Steroid abuse. Depression and suicide. Some lead very on the edge lives which might lead to death from things such as auto accidents and other traumatic injuries. These are not very different from causes of death in young people who are not porn actors.

Whatever the cause, it is difficult to hear about a young life cut short.

You are so right. I had a young friend who committed suicide. It sad to see them go young. It don't what the case for Alex Riley but he at peace.

So the article reporting Alex Riley’s death also mentions in the comments section that two other performers in porn had recently died, Alex James and Ty Thomas. Alex James has been mentioned in this forum last year in the thread Porn stars I’d like to hire.

It's not a new trend. Early/untimely deaths of young porn actors/strippers/escorts have been happening for many years...both for males & females. I need more than ten fingers to count the number of male strippers I have personally known from Montreal that have died young. As someone pointed out above, the primary causes of death seem to be suicide, drug overdose, and vehicle accidents. If you go far enough back, there were also some that died from complications related to HIV/AIDS. That doesn't happen much now.

I remember there was one year where four Montreal strippers I knew had died. It was terrible.

Were the strippers who died all from one club or different clubs in Montreal. I stopped going quite a few years ago but when I was a regular I was mostly at Campus.

Me too. I used to love Montreal's nightlife but all of a sudden it was plagued with all kinds of hard drugs (not weed, not cocaine, harder stuff!) that it was just not funny anymore, it was just decadent and really really sad. The nightclubs' segment of St Catherine's became a shit show every Saturday night.

Both Campus and Stock...but more from Stock as I went there more often.

The gay scene in Montreal has evolved in the last 10 years...but I find that is the case in every city. I lived in Houston from 2007 till 2016 and the gay scene there changed hugely during that time. It seemed that half the gay bars shut down...at one point Houston was left without a single lesbian bar...can you imagine? The fourth largest city in the US had no lesbian bar? The drugs have evolved as well with meth/G/Opioids being the preferred ones used by youth now. Having said that the older drugs were ugly too.

About 15 years ago I remember taking a stroll through the porn video arcade on St. Catherine that used to be one block away from Campus. It was probably 2:00am and I had just finished my night out at Campus. I saw a guy in a booth in the arcade...no more than 25 years old. He was completely naked watching a video with the door open. He had a syringe in his arm and was injecting something. I assume heroine but I don't really know. I remember thinking how sad for him in his young life having already gotten to injecting drugs into his arm...and wondering how many months more he had to live. It's nothing new. These kinds of things have been going on forever.

I guess I'm saying there has always been a dark underbelly to the porn/stripper/escort world. However it's not always that way with everybody. There is an opportunity to meet some great people that are not spun out on drugs. I still (or did pre-COVID) have loads of fun in Montreal both in the gay village and other non-gay areas. It's still a great city but, yes, it has changed in the last 10 years....just like everywhere else.

Same story, same industry, different character. It's incredibly sad, but it's not unexpected.

It's a shady as fuck business that attracts good looking, immature guys who are given a chunk of money and usually develop a lot of bad habits. The few who have done well I commend. They're definitely in the minority.

Porn will continue on the same track as always because no one expects better from that business aside from studios putting out hot content.

I've always felt that people who get into porn should first be given personality/mental health tests to see if they can handle the rigors.

all true but a comment says he had a serious liver condition a year ago. as much as we complain about getting old, the alternative is worse.

maybe the 1st porn star to die young not from drugs.

Wow. This is completely heartbreaking. Only 22 with a bright future ahead of him. I always like Alex, he seemed down to earth , nice, and never had any controversies. I remember he was hospitalized in 2019 with liver problems. Wonder if that had anything to do with his sudden death. R.I.P Alex. He's clearly gonna be missed by a lot of people. I feel terrible for his family and Jacob.

I remember when Archie from Sean Cody retired a few months ago, I was honestly relieved. I always found him very hot with a boyish charm. And when he made the decision to leave the industry it sounded like it had done a lot of harm to his personal life. Just glad that he got out before any more damage happened.

I agree with you that the gay scene has evolved everywhere, which I attribute to the Internet as well as other social factors. Of course, I have evolved as well (i.e. aged) so the changes haven't bothered me so much as they might have if I hadn't changed. Twenty years ago when I was 53, I could walk into a bar and be pretty sure I could find someone to have sex with. Today I don't even bother trying since I am not physically attracted to someone my age today. If I could find a 50 YO today who was attracted to me that would be another matter! But then, it had to be a 30 YO.

I was never into drugs but saw up close how they affected people in the Gay Village. I never saw it to the same extent in Miami (and FT. Lauderdale) where I spent my winters at that time. But having a condo in the Village in Montreal, I saw it on a daily basis. I would see the syringes in the morning on the sidewalks and in the parks in the morning. In Miami, I didn't live in a gay area so didn't wake up to that reality on a daily basis.

I found the dancers at Campus were a little older on average than at Stock and maybe a little more mature in their habits. I knew most had girlfriends and were perhaps a little more grounded. They still let me blow them, which was fun. What they did with the money I gave them I didn't know for the most part although some would tell me in general terms what they did outside the clubs. A few I got to know better and it was a mixed bag. Some were sensible, others not.

I think we're in the same place on how things are evolving. I'm only 10 years behind you in the age range so my 70's aren't that far off. Anyway, back to the thread topic. It's always tragic when one of these young deaths occurs in the porn-related business....whatever the cause.

I agree but do we actually know what caused his death? When I was his age I had several friends die suddenly but it was accidents that took them for the most part. Two were considered suicides but I had my doubts and thought each could have been autoerotic asphyxiation.
