Mine is an ethyl alcohol based spray that is infused with lemon oil. The combination produces a light scent reminiscent of ginger.

This and some of the responses in the thread raise a serious issue about sanitisers. The first consideration is that they are effective, but once we know that they are other considerations kick in. Like anything that is perceived as being essential, preferences for which one come into play. I don't see anything wrong with someone who can choose opting for the lemon myrtle infused one.

We've seen something similar with masks. After the initial rush to use surgical masks then any cloth mask you could get your hands on, people started to use them as fashion statements and for political slogans. Case in point, that Q-nutter from Georgia who probably thinks the whole idea of masks is a socialist conspiracy.

Human nature, I suppose - when the pandemic first started, I grabbed up whatever I could find (luckily I never got any of the recalled ones). Now that supplies are more available, I'm getting Purell, because it's a brand name I trust. (But I still have bottles of lesser-known brands.)

Thieves from Young Living but I’ve always been a consistent hand washer

Pre-Covid....wasn’t there some suggestion that we were using hand sanitizer TOO much? Allegedly we were killing off bacteria/etc. that might perhaps not be harmful, and might be lowering our resistance to other “bugs”. Anecdotal, I don’t have a link....but I remember this.

Yes, most likely that's true. And I was never really in the habit of using hand sanitizer before Covid. At home I usually wash my hands instead of using sanitizer, but of course publicly it's ubiquitous now.

I do remember that in the week or so before the pandemic "officially" hit, I was already thinking I should stock up on sanitizer because it seemed like we were going to need it more and more - and I went to several stores to see that it was sold out everywhere. I did a good ol' Astro "rut roh" lol - and held on to the little I had at home until it finally started to get stocked again. At least I already had enough toilet paper, lol.

The same thing happened with disinfectant wipes, which I tend to use a lot for general cleaning - now I have a stockpile lol. But do we know if overusing those is bad too?

As long as you don’t flush the wipes...that is a real problem for sewerage systems... Even wipes labeled “flushable” are problematic. ?

I don't. But I do find them very useful for general cleanup stuff, etc. So I do tend to use them a lot.
