It's official. I get my 2d dose on Friday. And I don't have to drive all of the way out to Beaumont to get it.

So I am more optimistic now about attending the Sunday pool event. Just want to be sure there are no dangerous variants afloat at that time.

Could anyone chip in to hire me a hot, young, smooth escort? Oh, j/k.

They said I should be able to count on them for 3 months, but that was 4 months ago.

Unfortunately, the 2nd time you get Covid has higher chance of worse symptoms, hospitalization and death. Antibodies aren't guaranteed to exist or defend. I know several people who suffered Covid and didn't develop antibodies - and several more that have gotten it twice.

If you want to be safe and come to Palm Springs, try to get at least one shot of vaccine, drive if you can, isolate for a few days (5 is best - especially if you flew in), get tested, and keep your mask on around others.

I had COVID last spring, but I definitely would not attend if I was just relying on my antibodies for protection. I am only going because I will be vaccinated by then. The evidence does show that your antibodies do protect you from getting sick for several months after but there are a lot of unknowns with variants, how many antibodies an individual produced and how long antibodies last, etc. With the vaccines, we know what level of protection they provide and that they are fairly protective of even many of the major variants (at this time anyway).

Still should wear a mask and drive in and avoid crowds as much as you can, etc even with the vaccine.

With all of the loosening of restrictions across the country, the CDC now says that fully vaccinated people do not need masks or social distancing to interact with people. That surprises me.

" People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can safely meet with one another or with others from a single household, the Centers for Disease Control announced Monday."

So, should Oliver have two areas of socialization at his pool event? One for fully vaccinated folks and the other for those not fully vaccinated? Or should we all just mingle at our own level of risk?

I read the two sentences differently. The first one is that vaccinated folks get a free pass to go maskless at all times. The second one says to me that those vaccinated can interact safely with other people who are also vaccinated but not the general public.

Maybe this is clearer, but the guidelines consist of five pages:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said people who are two weeks past their final shot face little risk if they visit indoors with unvaccinated members of a single household at low risk of severe disease, without wearing masks or distancing. That would free many vaccinated grandparents who live near their unvaccinated children and grandchildren to gather for the first time in a year. The guidelines continue to discourage visits involving long-distance travel, however.

The CDC also said fully vaccinated people can gather indoors with those who are also fully vaccinated. And they do not need to quarantine, or be tested after exposure to the coronavirus, as long as they have no symptoms.

Hi All

Got my first pfizer shot yesterday and should be good to gather in April. I live in LA and can drive to PS, but can someone give me the 411 on what this event is and where? PM if it's secret lol

Don't be

mean and laugh at me for leaving my mask on - perhaps once more people are vaccinated, I'll be more comfortable, but for now I'll feel better taking the precaution.

Are you kidding? I have spent hours planning to have masks that compliment my wardrobe while in Palm Springs. I'm not going to let all that planning go to waste.

No one is being mean or laughing.

Just so you know, here is a recent article that has advice from the CDC regarding vaccinated people and mask-wearing:

I have very little respect for the CDC. It has been wrong so many time that, at least for me, it has little credibility. I much prefer the studies and conclusions reached by Harvard Medical School in conjunction with Pfizer and the Israeli Health Department. The CDC is likely to change its recommendations between now at the Palm Springs Weekend several times. God only knows what they will be recommending by the time the Weekend rolls around. What one must, in the end, do is what makes one comfortable.

They do lean toward over caution. I will be fully vaccinated, so I think I can set my own limits.
