JB_Studio38 Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 That is something everyone should be doing regardless if you are in this business or not. No one is guaranteed tomorrow which is why one should always be saving encase something unexpected happens. Right. And it is good practice to have a backup plan. However, I feel every since this pandemic has arisen, there's been an aura of judgement in the air towards sex workers, occasionally from other sex workers and even people like @jjkrkwood who’s supposed to be a supporter. This isn't directed at any one here, but I just don't like the hypocritical factor. It doesn't make sense to condemn those who choose to see clients during this time, yet the same ones condemning, are willing to take the same risks I’m taking to their health at any other time ? I think we all; as gay men who have sex with other men, sometimes with no condom, sometimes for money, sometimes anonymously in a bathhouse, or from the internet...should all be understanding of one another's individual circumstances, not pointing the finger. If I wanted to hear that, I'd go to gay pride and hangout with these guys: marylander1940 1

Except for giant banks or other huge "essential industry" corporations who invest extra cash in stock buybacks and exorbitant executive salaries instead of in their customers, workers, communities, and rainy day funds. They don't need to save, they can always come running for no-strings taxpayer bailouts when something unexpected happens. Only workers living paycheck-to-paycheck are expected to bootstrap in times of crisis. #Merikkka

I just noticed you both have kept the same handles since 2002! So I applaud the consistency. Btw @Benjamin_Nicholas, since you were in the biz around that time, do you have an idea as to how long it took for things to get back to “normal”, or how much was the industry affected after 9/11/2001?

I was getting into the swing of things around mid-2003. By then, things had normalized and the industry was chugging along. A lot of that was due to how popular Hooboy's website and board were: No one had really done anything like that before and the amount of traffic that was coming and going was just gargantuan. A lot of that was due to how popular Hooboy's website and board were: No one had really done anything like that before and the amount of traffic that was coming and going was just gargantuan. HB and Daddy worked their asses off to catch and contain that lightning in a bottle. That’s good? to know. But that could also indicate 2-3 years. However, like I had a conversation with Bryan Knight, I’ve been in the industry for over 10 years and have also seen it all. Even though each “event” is different, or more extreme, it still impacts in some way. For example: the Trayvon Martin/police riots, Orlando Pulse, and Presidential election events all took its toll temporarily on sex and the business in general. It just changes everybody's vibe. In Orlando, I ended up going 3 weeks and only had 1 client, when the Pulse nightclub thing happened. Eventually, and I’m sure at this point people can’t see because they’re so fixated on things “getting worse” and the “apocalypse”, but perhaps this too will simply become “news” down the line. As in, something that stays on the news for months, until the next big storyline replaces it. Then people move on and forget about it. That’s why I don’t buy into mass hysteria. At this point, people have forgotten about Y2K, 9/11, the Isis beheadings, the border wall, the Police beatings, the tornadoes, the refugees in Syria, the Hurricane Irma, the Shootings at Mandalay Bay, global warming, the antibiotic resistant gonorreah...and now its all about this virus now. And somehow now, THIS is the end of the world ? Edited April 8, 2020 by Jarrod_Uncut marylander1940 1
down_to_business Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Infected people without symptoms might be driving the spread of coronavirus more than we realized. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/14/health/coronavirus-asymptomatic-spread/index.html The situation aboard the U.S. aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt gives a great look into this virus. (from the article linked below) https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-usa-military-sympt-idUSKCN21Y2GB The Navy’s testing of the entire 4,800-member crew of the aircraft carrier - which is about 94% complete - was an extraordinary move in a headline-grabbing case that has already led to the firing of the carrier’s captain and the resignation of the Navy’s top civilian official. Roughly 60 percent of the over 600 sailors who tested positive so far have not shown symptoms of COVID-19, the potentially lethal respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, the Navy says. The service did not speculate about how many might later develop symptoms or remain asymptomatic. “With regard to COVID-19, we’re learning that stealth in the form of asymptomatic transmission is this adversary’s secret power,” said Rear Admiral Bruce Gillingham, surgeon general of the Navy. The figure is higher than the 25% to 50% range offered on April 5 by Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of President Donald Trump’s coronavirus task force. Think about that for a minute. 60% of the infected people showed no symptoms at all! The good news is that things are likely going to get back to normal once the following take place: The availability of a vaccine. The availability of a solid treatment (possibly Gilead's Remdesivir if you believe the hype). The availability of reliable and rapid testing for the virus and antibodies. The reopening of the economy, relaxing social distancing, and return to employment.

The reopening of the economy, relaxing social distancing, and return to employment. Remdesivir is looking promising..it's being tested with a variety of populations at many different sites and with large numbers of patients. It looks like it could really help people with COVID-19 recover a lot more quickly, which of course would be very helpful to not only decreasing mortality but with alleviating the pressure on our hospitals. Gilead said we will know a lot more by the end of the month about the drug's efficacy, but promising so far. If Remdesivir is a solid treatment it could really help us "raise the line" in treating coronavirus patients.
Aaron_Bauder Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 (edited) Banks and corporations only responsibility is to make money. Your right banks and corporations dont need to be saved and should be allowed to fail but we dont live in a Vulcan society where the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. (Except enjoying the video of Vermont Jesus having to renege on his overpromising.) Banks and corporations have the same social responsibilities as every other individual and entity in society. The jig is up. They cannot argue to courts that they are allowed to flood elections with money and lobby politicians for favorable regulations like people, run to taxpayers for bailouts, use the roads and infrastructure society has built, then claim they have zero responsibility to anything but their own bank account. That outdated Reaganite Boomer philosophy has failed and been exposed. We don't live in a Vulcan society, but we don't live in a purely Darwinist one either. The American constitution is a social contract; it opens with "We the People" and starts off talking about "a more perfect union," "common defense," and "general welfare." It's not either/or, it's both/and. The needs of "the People" and the rights of individuals both have value and need to be respected, and no individual or incorporated entity operating under our constitution is exempt. The zero sum game Ayn Rand bullcrap era is over. We have two very distinct parties. One wants to do something about climate change, the other denies climate science. One is controlled by a rage tweeting, pathological lying birther bigot leading a white identity politics and white grievance cult; the other reflects the diversity of America. One is arguing in court that businesses be allowed to cherry-pick from the Bible to discriminate against gays in commerce and employment, the other is fighting to protect US elections from foreign meddling. One wants tax cuts for billionaires and unrestricted gun violence; the other wants universal healthcare and sensible gun reforms. The only people who pretend not see these differences are those whose privilege means they are fine no matter who is elected. Fortunately, an increasing majority of voters knows better, which is why one party has lost 7 of the last 8 popular votes, can no longer rely on vote suppression and the electoral college alone to win, and will soon have to start working for the people if it wants to continue to exist.
