Rating Current Escort Market vs. 15 Years Ago From 1-10.

There have been several posts lately lamented the lack of availability of escorts fitting certain characteristics (e.g. clean shaven, no tattoos, etc.).

 

Accordingly, I thought it might be interesting for the "veteran" clients who've been hiring for quite a while to quantify their long-term assessment of the current escort market regarding fulfilling your criteria (whatever that criteria may be) vs. what the market was 15 years ago by supplying ratings from 1-10 with 1 being abysmal to 10 being phenomenal.

 

I certainly don't mind starting the ball rolling in stating that I share the frustrations of those members who made those recent posts regarding escorts not fitting what I'm looking for. Magnifying that frustration is the fact that, when a rare one surfaces (e.g. Mike Logan, https://rent.men/MikeLogan, on whom I've recently posted), communication, if and when it begins, ceases in no time flat with no explanation for why that's the case.

 

Hence, my ratings follow:

 

15 Years ago: 9.

 

Elaboration: Back then, I tended to consistently have several ads (even in New Orleans, a notoriously slim market) to choose from, flakes were practically nonexistent, and the meetings I set up, which approximated about a dozen a year, were, with very rare exception, quite fulfilling.

 

Today: 1.

 

Elaboration: I really don't see how it can get much worse, and it's rare that I see an ad in New Orleans, either by a visiting escort or one based there, with whom I would have even the slightest desire to hook up. My last hookup was with a visiting escort based in New York who was Japanese. I had a GREAT time with him, but that's been it for the last THREE YEARS! That's right: One meeting in three years!

 

Anybody else care to weigh in?

I have only been at this hobby a couple years, but overall I am happy with the diversity and communication of the escorts in Denver. We have a pretty wide variety of tastes and types: Hairy, clean-shaven, early 20s-mid-40s, guys into kink, others more into vanilla-type scenes, heavily tattooed hipsters and other that are clean-cut prep types.

 

Plus we have quite a decent amount of travelers. I personally am pretty happy with it. And I think most hiring in Denver would have someone that they could enjoy spending time with.

I started hiring occasionally in 1995 and in earnest in 2008. In my experience, the proportion of the escort population who I find attractive has remained relatively constant. That could be a function of my general nature, which is to evolve as time goes on.

10-15 years ago we had a wider choice of sites, especially CL. There did seem to be fewer scammers. I like to stick with regulars while adding to the roster from time to time, so I’m pretty content these days.

One thing that changed is fashion. 15 years ago hairless, buffed, smooth bodies were the rage. Now hair is popular. If you want buff you have less to pick from, but it does not mean that the hairy apes do not provide good service. Put it differently, if you like pizza, but all restos around are Chinese, you will be unhappy even if they are top Chinese.

The flakiness and communication problems come, I think, from our smart phone world. Many escorts now were still in short pants 15 years ago. They don't know anything other than a smart phone and the manners (or lack thereof to my mind) in using one. I will let others, if they wish, think how this affects behavior. I have to clean the living room.

First, some comments about the guys available back then. We've got a lot of the WELL BUILT/CLEAN CUT/CLEAN SHAVEN looks of guys that were fresh out of the military thanks to the various wars going back then. Now the guys look like they're fresh out of the military alright. The ISIS MILITARY! The current listing from rent.men literally looks like the roster of Bagdaddy's personal guards at his Raqqa's lair!

Craigslist was a gold mine. Especially in the 2000s. By 2012/2013 the quality had declined and worsened until the shut down in 2017.

 

There were also more bars and clubs with providers out in the open. Now if it happens it is very clandestine.

I’d give middling grades then and now. There were more smooth guys but they often were tweezed and shaved but not enough to camouflage this not being natural, not to mention the stubble burn. There are a ton more guys on the market, but there always have been plenty of marginal, misrepresenting, and/or disorganized guys. And more guys means more flakes. It also means many more choices in cities that had fewer than a handful of guys even 5 years ago. There were plenty of no shows and flakes in the old days. You could still get not great experiences from even well reviewed guys. Some of the posters on the other thread had relied on now-retired regulars and, probably forget how flaky random hires can be. The tats, including fairly random collections of tats have been common for over a decade. Providers change but so do clients and almost no one on the other thread (and I suspect this one) will really own that.

Anyone remember the term Rough Trade? There has always been quality and less than quality. There are plenty of clean cut guys with maybe a discreet tattoo or two. Remember the Patrick Swayze blown dry teased mullet ? Every era has its good and bad.

Have been hiring for about eighteen years. Currently there is far too much facial hair for my taste. The number of tattoos (arm sleeves, full chest, and full back) has also increased dramatically. Additionally I like lots of muscle which is less in evidence today. I've adjusted to more body hair but the other changes have caused me to hire less and less. I just don’t find many of today’s escorts attractive.

Was not hiring 15 years ago but periodically looked at ads. Back then I would give it an 8. Now I say 1 or 2. I like the clean-cut "all American boy next door" type look. Doesn't seem to be in vogue these days, or those types aren't in the business any longer or hardly ever advertise.

When the beard trend ends people will be able to shave but if the tattoo trend ends these people are gonna be stuck with tattoos. I wish people would put more thought into them. Some are cool, most look like they handed a needle to a six year old and said "Draw me a picture."

Trends change, people age and move on. And we also change. Some of us become more rigid and persnickety and render harsher judgements as we age. Some are less driven for the active parts of the activity and thus less interested in the activity in general. I'd be hard pressed to say whether it's the "market" that has changed so dramatically or the buyers. It's probably some of each.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I guess the bottom line is that, "it is what it is." I think @John makes a great point about the smartphones which I'd never considered. I guess we forget about those days where flip-phones were the norm and texting was essentially nonexistent thus making an actual (God forbid) human voice call the norm for handling ad replies. I have no qualms in texting at all, but I think it has certainly contributed to the "flake factor" and lack of common courtesy as I referenced in the original post entailing Mike Logan.

 

Virtually every escort with whom I met back then was in his early-to-mid 20s, with most pursuing an education of one variety or another. I myself was in my early 40s back then (am 56 today), and I felt there was a common thread in that each party anxiously looked forward to our hookups (I tended to engage in repeat hires until that escort was no longer in the New Orleans market or retired), and I was incredibly happy with the level of professionalism, courtesy, and maturity of the escorts back then. It's near 180-degrees opposite today, which is why I spend very little time even pursuing the hobby any more. I did encounter one notable exception (https://rent.men/BigEasyStud), but as anyone can plainly see, he moved to Oregon.

 

I'm glad many members are finding the current market to their liking because, from my own perspective (and I see that of several others it appears in reading the replies), it is nothing short of an abject disaster.

There was a website called ‘Wayback Machine’ where you used to be able to look at indexed copies of websites, viewed at a given moment in time. However, some pictures or content wouldn’t import perfectly, and I don’t know if the data on a given message forum would all be available/viewable...but to offer my opinion as a worker on this topic....I’m in virtually completely agreement with what I’m seeing above. Competition seemed intense, reliable, but the market for it still strong in the late 2000’s when I first came in. Furthermore, the amount of ‘travel postings’ by given providers was thick....if I posted one in the morning, it was off the first page by that evening. Now, it seems like either a) guys aren’t traveling, or b) they don’t care to come here and post about it anymore.

 

Could be a combination of things, but I think a period where as the reliability and strength of looks of the guys declines; it doesn’t necessarily make it better for the rest of us that are ‘still in the fight’....I think it causes people to lose interest in the hobby, period.

 

One of the things that always surprises me is the number of the guys who are afraid to leave this country to find a better deal. I don‘t care if I get 30 PMs from other escorts saying “WHAT ARE YOU DOING SUGGESTING ______”, but I’ll say it flat and in the open here....there are some deals to be had in Thailand and Latin America. #justsaying. You might have to embrace travel costs and potential danger, but from my eyes, totally worth it.

Since I liked many "types" from the beginning, alot of providers are still visually appealing. My RM buddylist is bursting with studs. But looks mean less than ever before. What has been crushed? The ease of setting up win-win meetings.

 

For me, satisfaction with the experience has collapsed from 9-ish to 3.

About 20 years ago there were a few very reliable, affordable agencies in nyc that helped me easily connect with guys to my taste.

 

I felt safe and secure with the agency scene. Whenever I had the itch I'd call and get one of my go to guys, or get a new guy.

Interesting you would mention Thailand. One of my favorite escorts was from Thailand and was in the U. S. attending a South Louisiana University. He was HOT!!!!! We clicked right away, and he became one of my most-frequently hired escorts.

 

Unfortunately, about four years ago (after we'd been meeting regularly about every 3-4 weeks for two years), he informed me that he would be graduating and, unless he could find a way to get around the mandatory requirement that he return to Thailand upon graduation, that would be our last meeting.

 

He was so desperate to remain the U. S. that he proposed that he and I get married (I'm NOT joking) and even referenced the fact we could hook up all the time and he wouldn't charge for the meetings (that's how much he wanted to remain in the U. S.). Marriage was simply not an option on my end, and in speaking with other Asain friends I have here in Louisiana, it would have been deemed a "sham marriage" by immigration authorities anyway and he would have still been forced to return to Thailand.

 

Hence, that final meeting about four years ago was in fact our last meeting, and I'm sure I'll never see him again. Just one more instance of frustration from this hobby, but as I said in my post below, "it is what it is!"

Idk about how it was 15 years ago but even a couple of years ago it was much easier lets say narrowing down the playing field and one didnt have to play 1000 questions before meeting up.

Lately, I’ve been more impressed with some of the college-age providers ~20. I think they’re in Gen Z, “Zoomers“. Excellent communications, very kink-friendly and passionate. I know many prefer the older, buffer types, but this may be a good trend for those who prefer the smoother, boy next door types. It’s also notable that, in my small sample, they often eschew alcohol and drugs, except for weed.
