I’m considering flying an escort to my city. I have met him many times before - but he recently moved across the country and I’m thinking of flying him to me. He has always been good guy to me and I do trust him.

I know his real full name and birthdate. I’m planning on purchasing his round-trip flight soon - but in my life, I have never purchased flights for someone in another city.

Does anyone have any comments about something I might not be aware of or something I need to know before I do this (such as - can he somehow cancel the flight and get the money I spent for the flight- etc.) I’m just trying to be cautious and cover my bases regarding anything that could occur that I’m not thinking of.

Thanks.

I’ve done this a number of times. If you’ve seen him many times and he’s shared his real name and birthday, I’m surprised you would worry about him flipping a plane ticket.

The one piece of advice I can give is to make sure to buy flight insurance. I got burned by a popular guy. If I had known better I would have paid the extra cash to ensure I got refunded if he didn't get on the plane.

Not to say the guy would ghost you, but if something happens and he can't make the flight... you'll get your money back in whole or in part.

Bottom line, you have trust in him. He hasn't breached that. Don't overthink this or let others here spook you.

Flying guys places requires a small leap of faith. It's part of the deal (and excitement, for some).

I always use Southwest points and if someone does not fly they are refunded to my account automatically. Not sure if a paid ticket is a travel voucher for the buyer or the passenger on SW though...I think that goes to the passenger's name. Using points on any airline avoids the chance of passenger refunds. If in doubt, maybe mention you can get the flight on points, even if you are going to pay.

I'm amazed how many clients fly guys business class.......overkill.

You've hired him many times, and you don't have a sense as to whether you can trust him or not? Well, then the advice to use points is probably a good one. I'm assuming you're paying him a fair amount. I think that would be a good incentive. You're wise not to fly someone over you haven't hired short-term first. And also wise not to send money in advance. I've heard of escorts asking for money in advance, but I'll only front the Lyft/Uber fare to the airport.

It’s not clear to me @InterestingGuy how long this contemplated hire is for. But if it’s at least an overnight - with flights and a hotel room, you’re going to spend quite a lot of money - I have 3 thoughts for you.

1. Why not visit him in his city? Assuming he’s located in an interesting city, if he should be flaky, you would still have an enjoyable time exploring a new place.

2. Why not get him more invested in the trip? If this should be a weekend hire, ask him what he’d like to do (outside the bedroom) or if there’s a place he’d like to see; if an overnight, ask him what sort of food he’d prefer for dinner.

3. I agree with others about the flights - use points if you can or buy a fully flexible ticket. I was burned once by a previously reliable escort and the airline would only refund him, the named passenger - something I’d not encountered before or since.

I'm not sure there's any way to have refunds or travel vouchers go to other than the named passenger. Why I would use points.

It’s slightly off-topic but to answer your point @tassojunior: I had used my AmEx to buy the guy a fully refundable ticket and the airline (Qantas) would only refund him; prior to this, I’ve had other airlines in the US and Europe refund me (when others cannot travel) as I had purchased the ticket.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy a fully refundable ticket! Then the passenger can get the full big $$$ for himself, with no way for you to recuperate a penny. At least with a non-refundable ticket, he can only apply a portion of the ticket to a future flight.

What does j or f mean?

Hi, I googled "Airline Ticket Classes" and got this list:

The FareCodes

  • Discount Economy: K,L,Q,V,W,U,T,X,N,O,S.
  • Full FareEconomy: Y,B,M,H.
  • Premium Economy: W,E.
  • Discounted Business: D,I,Z.
  • Full FareBusiness: J,C,D.
  • First: A,F.

(when I first went away to college, it was far enough that I had to fly; and even back in 1968, they were using "Y" to mean coach class).

@honcho thank you. I really appreciate it.

My first very long flights were also in 1968, but the United States Army paid for the coach seats to Asia.

All of my overseas flights since, over fifty years, have been coach also, including three trips to Australia and many flights to Europe and two to Brazil.

I have received upgrades from the East coast to LAX. But, I am fine with traveling coach too.

Also, many people here may not have been the US military. I am older than most members.

I used to fly a guy in on a somewhat regular basis. The first time I flew him in I went through the hassle of purchasing the ticket myself in his name. At his suggestion from the second time on he simply bought his own ticket and I reimbursed him when he arrived -- worked like a charm. Of course the key word in situations like this is TRUST!!!!!

That would certainly take a massive amount of trust on the escort's part. Kudos to you to be able to instill such trust. Some clients are flakes. Imagine the horror if the escort paid for the ticket and the client flaked out! I can't imagine this suggestion happening for someone one is flying over for the first time, such as the OP. Anyone else on this message forum manage to get an escort to pay for the plane ticket, refunded on arrival?

I pay for a lot of my own airfare with guys I'm familiar with: It's just reimbursed on the backend. It makes things easier for everyone and allows me to quickly take care of the travel-end of things.

Sure, it requires trust, but if you've spent enough time with someone, it should be a moot point.

Great escorts are outstanding businessmen. They are NOT hustler, thieves, or shysters. They can be trusted and should be because of the great individuals they are. Some of the escorts discussed on this site fit into this category of great escorts. Some even participate on the various forums here. I’m going to be very upfront and name three gentlemen I know and with whom I have spent time and who I trust COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY. Their names in alphabetical order are: Benjamin Nicholas, Dane Scott and Tristan Baldwin. There are, I’m sure, many others but these three are outstanding gentlemen and I consider it a privilege to KNOW them.

When I was in the Army, most of my flights between duty stations were on MAC (military airlift command) flights. The carriers were always obscure companies that you had never heard of. Much later, I realized that they were all charter airlines. They were always just a trifle scary.
