Gay weddings like they were meant to be: over-the-top:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6862397/Luke-Williams-Damien-Kolbas-tie-knot-luxurious-1million-wedding-year.html

Clearly, some people have too much money. I know a gay couple who is getting married and in place of gifts, listed charities to donate in their honor; they are Menches; the couple at the link are a sad pair (in my opinion)

Meh. There are classless people in all flavors. I momentarily wanted to see those “intimate” photos but then realized that I don’t give a rat’s ass.

Can we start a pool for how long the marriage will last? Put me down for 18 months.

Well... if you’re going to do it, go for the gusto..

I personally think most marriages (of all kinds) are shams:

1.) straight women marry for financial security

2.) straight men marry to have a woman cook, clean, manage his life and wash his dirty underwear.

3.) gay guys marry to combine incomes, and maximize vacation budgets and spending power (while screwing whomever they want in the process)

So the wedding is usually the best part of any marriage..

Actually, most marry to have children. That’s why you see women marrying men who make less than they do.

More isn't always better, but I will say to each their own. If this makes them happy and it's not hurting anyone, go for it.

I've long since figured out that a lavish wedding day means next to nothing when you're talking long-term commitment. A friend of mine- a former popular male escort- had a massive wedding in Manhattan recently (covered by the press) and is now living hand to mouth just to pay off the event. I guess it was all done on credit cards.

It was all for show. A very expensive show.

I don't understand that.

My post was a response to the claim that women marry for financial security.

I know....

I was questioning your response that women marry “down”, to have children. ☺️

You can’t buy taste.

And like most extravagant weddings....it’s a huge tacky waste.

Anytime someone tries to impress me with how many “Swarovski” crystals

they used....I can’t help but thinking...”bitch, please....they're just rhinestones.”

On a final note...the “champagne” listed on their dinner menu.....is a sparkling wine....not Champagne!

Do you mean that you find this offensive or unbelievable?

The more educated and high earning a woman is, the smaller the pool of male equals, let alone betters. That’s before we even take into account the fact that some men are turned off by such women.

Most women have a primal drive to children. At some point, the window for that closes, and they become more willing to compromise.

Hell, there are sites where women and men who want children can find men who will both donate the sperm and coparent with them.

How could I have missed that? Now that’s low class but is actually sort of like those rhinestones. It retails for like $15. Fake. All fake.

Didn’t find your statement offensive or unbelievable... I just don’t think that the percentage of women that you’re referencing is that high.

It is my belief (from what I’ve observed in my life), that regardless of her education, status, or financial standing, most women want to be taken care of, which includes a man that can provide.

So although there are women who fall into what you’ve described, there are still tons of women getting married everyday, to become housewives.

Not to veer off topic, but I will admit that I’ve always secretly had dreams of having a lavish wedding, but a wedding where I marry myself.

Every time I’ve broached the subject to friends, they’ve all told me that I’m crazy...

Is the idea of marrying oneself that ridiculous?

And I can take the criticism, so let ‘er rip if you like...

A friend of mine (in his early 60s) recently "eloped" and had a wedding with only a handful of immediate family members present. I must admit I was sad at being unable to attend (i.e. I wasn't invited). We plan to have a nice, pleasant, tasteful wedding which is really not going to be over-the-top at all. The point will be to share the joy with friends and family. In my mind, that's what weddings are for. We might even ask for no gifts. Haven't talked about that yet. I certainly can't imagine asking guests for multiple changes of clothes, or to spend much themselves. I don't think it's right to ask guests to spend a lot on weddings.

One custom I could never understand is "Wedding Showers." What's up with that? "You're not important enough for me to invite you to my wedding, but give me a present anyway!". I always politely turn down invitations to wedding showers, as I personally find the practice rude and money-grabbing.

Is their money and they should do what they want with it... even hiring an escort like most of us do on here.

At least they paid the bill unlike Trump...

I wonder if they got this for the restrooms?

And the straight guests didn't even have to ask which guy was the bride...

"Damien dazzled in a black blazer, which was completely covered in crystals... he walked down the aisle in a crystal crown."

I want a cream colored fluffy coated teddy bear Pomeranian. But I have sleep problems, so I won’t be getting one.

Again, we’re talking about fantasy vs reality. Very few women in big cities can pull this off. There are only so many available rich men, and it takes two incomes to sustain a middle class lifestyle in high COL areas. Moreover, wealthy men are high maintenance, and they tend to up and leave when they get bored. Some women would rather work and marry a decent man with good character who will be a good father.

Back in 1974 or '75 my aunt (for whatever reason) bought my parents a slipcover set at Goldblatt's that looked like the jacket worn by the guy on the left.

It was returned.

That's neither my experience nor observation (that tons of women get married everyday to become housewives).

I know of no college-educated women doing this. They may drop out of the workforce when they have children, in large part because it makes economic sense if their partner earns more than they do and the cost of childcare is close to or more than their salary, but that's not dropping out, let alone marrying, to become housewives. Nor non-college educated women who graduated from high school in the 80s or later. Not even very many from my high school graduating class of 1974 in upstate New York.

The expectation today outside very wealthy households is that women will work and be self-supporting if they're not pursuing additional education. And women have higher educational attainments than men these days as well, which would make no sense unless they planned to do something with those degrees.
