Sure, there are ranges of prices that work for different markets and business models. I am all for the guys to charge whatever works for their business plans, and all for the clients to pay whatever is comfortable for them. This hobby always involves finding a good match, the right client for the right provider. Price is just one of the many variables.

I am not questioning prices at 300 and over. Some day I want to fuck Alam Wernick, I will have to go over my cap. Same with Krave Melanin. What I am questioning is stating that 300 is the norm. The market is much bigger and much more diverse than most people think.

That's certainly true and I think it's assumed we're talking about major US markets; NYC, DC, CA. Down south and midwest and plains I'm sure top RM prices are 100 lower. And with druggies everywhere it's lower and if it weren't for coke whores my sex life would be cut in half.

I just had escort friends I was with 24/7 when not with a client. I had to help with English texts. I assure you, even though they are famous porn stars, they set the price at 300 (instead of 350) and most times there was no issue. However, when someone asked they readily dropped to 250 but no lower. Maybe 10% of clients. So it was "ask 300, take 250". Surprisingly it's the prima donas who want 350 who never go lower. And I have a semi-regular RM local star who dropped from 250 to 200 because he has a hard time bottoming. A lot cheaper than my #1 but not a power bottom.

I only know in depth the DC market, although I guess we can assume it is not different that any other big city, besides differences in the predominant racial mixes (p.e. more Asians and Mexicans in LA). Right now in DC I have a regular stripper who charges 100, a raising porn star who charges me 120, and a very hot newbie who charges me 250.

What did the rates do before, during, and after the big recession around 2006?

Perhaps escort rates could be considered one of the "leading economic indicators" in measuring the health of the economy?

And I remember way back to Econ 101 that there are elastic and inelastic goods and services. The price of "elastic" commodities can change wildly with economic conditions and basic supply-and-demand forces. The classic example of an "inelastic" commodity is table salt, which never seems to vary in price no matter what. (Or so they say.) So where to we peg sex-for-hire on that spectrum? :D

At least in Baltimore they did go down and there were fewer clients. The biggest difference today is the huge income inequality and half as many providers. There are a shitload more high-income clients and it's what the client has to spend as a rule for pricing.

But I'll repeat again, it's still usually much cheaper to rent than buy.

...only way to fix the problem is to go on strike until number goes back to 200-250. Who wants to join?

If you really want to do something about it:

  • Diversify your sources. Get out of Rentmen and try other outlets. You will be surprised at some prices out there if you think 300 is the norm.
  • Do not be afraid of bargaining
  • Take risks. Out of my last 5 hires 2 where not reviewed providers, and both were excellent.

I know that many friends here are allergic at bargaining, I am not. My concern is respecting the provider's business model. When I am quoted 300 or higher, I say No, Thanks, Good luck. Often the conversation ends there and I move on. Also often I am asked for a counter offer. In these cases I understand the provider is allowing a negotiation, and most times we reach an agreement.

I think bargaining is disrespectful, specially when you talk about this kind of business. If folks aren't paying 300, he'll lower the price.

Is like showing a coupon for a discount while ordering dinner, you know the cook won't do his best, you're the "cheap guy".

Who came out with that comparison first? It's an excellent metaphor.

I do entirely agree with your comment. A question though about 'do not be afraid of bargaining'. My feelings are that if a cash strapped escort agrees to a lower price, it would get the meeting off to a poor start and a lackluster performance in the sack. What do you think about that?

I used to fear the same when I was in the anti bargaining club. I guess it is about connecting and communicating clearly and respectfully. The fact is that reality proved me wrong.

I think you would agree with an old common knowledge truth: there is no correlation between the height of the fee and the quality of the experience. Well, I came to believe from my own personal experience that there is no correlation either between bargaining/not bargaining and engagement and passion during the encounter.
