Simply being out "there" and meeting & mingling in general can be disadvantageous to one's health. Now that I never hit the bars &/or trick-out regularly as I did for decades and take extreme care about washing up during & after the gym or touching surfaces that other people touch, my bouts of what you have described have virtually vanished completely. I've now gone 2 straight cold/flu seasons without a scratch, so to speak.

I'm not advocating that you become a hermit or monk but precautions in how often as well as what you engage in can be helpful.

Ditto, sniper! And when touching the poles so a to keep balanced while standing on the train was imperative & unavoidable, I made a beeline to wash up thoroughly in the bathroom on my floor once I got to the office.

I learned that the hard way years ago after eating a top porn star.

No way, no how, no more whether it's a star or a regular Joe.... The symptoms of illness from catching such "bugs", i.e. parasitic infections, are hideous and once is enough. A simple shower is not going to eliminate parasites that the other guy may have in his system.

Where did you meet him... your place? His place? A hotel?

Did you both take a really thorough shower (with no novel soaps, shampoos, etc)? Any lubes/lotions/latex/other materials that are new?

It might be something which manifests itself in another context in a much worse way in the future.
