When you visit Canada, do you expect to receive your rate in US dollars, or do clients pay you in Canadian? If so, do you adjust the rate to account for the exchange?

Of course, I know I would need to ask each provider their preference, but I am wondering what the consensus is here.

Not an escort. I last visited Canada a couple years ago. Although they didn't specify in their ads, the Canadian escorts I talked to said their advertised rate was Canadian. They preferred to be paid in Canadian to avoid exchange fees.

The local currency is expected and rates are adjusted to match the exchange rate. I always tack on abut more to include variations in the exchange rate plus any bank fees when converting back to my home currency.

If the provider is from the states, feel free to ask them what currency they prefer as you may get a better deal doing one or the other.

At the time of posting, I would charge more along the lines of $450 CAD / hour to match my $300 USD / hour. The current market rate as of posting is $300 USD = $400 CAD.

very NICE !

I expect to be paid in local currency, though I wouldn't object to getting US money in Canada.

I don't personally change my rates nor do I recalculate based on exchange. My hourly US rate is in line with the NYC market; in Canada, the same number of dollars (but just Canadian dollors) is a bit high for the market. I keep my rates the exact same number, just in Canadian dollars. Yes, it means I am making less per hour with the exchange rate, but I'm focused here on the experience of the guy hiring me - he's paying a lot more than he might pay a local and I think I would cost myself some business by changing my rate to account for the exchange; effectively, if I did that, my rate would be about twice the average for a market like Toronto.

Took my first trip to Canada recently. A couple of clients who hit me up before were no longer interested when they realized I'd quoted them in USD. I should have thought of this earlier. Seems like taking a 30% pay cut while traveling would be tough--but at the same time, everything else in Canada was 30% less so it's not like I was losing out in the end. I still got work but next time I'll be more lenient on my rate.

The same applies in Australia where the AU$ is on a par with the CA$. I’ve seen visiting US escorts quote US$300/hour and ask to be paid in US dollars. That effectively means that the client is paying more than $400/hour in the local currency. $400/hour to Australians sounds exactly the same as it does to Americans. Some will be prepared to pay it, but most wont.

I have said for a long time (in here and elsewhere) that there is an equivalence between prices in AUD, CAD, NZD and USD and to a lesser extend GBP, that means we tend to compare the number rather than convert the currency. Expecting to pull your usual USD rate in Canada or Australia is optimistic.

In europe, i've paid escorts in USD instead of euros. Most were fine with it.

Meh, US privilege! (That's a joke BTW.) Seriously though, I wouldn't dream of trying to pay a companion abroad in AUD. Obviously foreign currencies are accepted to a greater or lesser extent in some places and some circumstances, and USD more widely than many other currencies. For what it's worth, the donation I posted to Daddy was in USD not AUD. I had US banknotes from my last trip to the US but would probably have converted money to USD if I had not.

I think it is legal in Australia?

That's what I do when crossing the border for clients - I keep my rates the same for CAD$ and US$.

Bang on...as usual! USD 300 (going rate or even lower) for NYC is approximately CAD$400. No ads in Toronto has that rate. For me I don't bargain, so if you keep your rate in USD here that simply means I either pass or hire for shorter time. Just offering the other side of the story ;-)

By the way, I’m Canadian... lol. I always carry an extra thousand USD or so when traveling in case i run out of local currency and am too lazy to go to the bank...or, my horniness gets the better of me and i cannot find a bank at that late hour...

I approve of your tactic
