Just meet him in the lobby. Or at a public place just outside.

Unless its a tiny boutique hotel, no one's gonna notice you.

And, there's the additional benefit of venue-screening. A scamner, with very old ad-pictures, or the recent addition of 65 lbs of flab or swastika face tattoos, wont meet you in the lobby. Neither will the guys who intend to rip you off. All of the above types rely on the privacy of your room to intimidate your cash into their pocket. A good guy wont hesitate to meet you in the lobby, or by the Starbucks on the corner.

I admit: I like meeting in public. I like seeing a good looking guy on the move, how he carries himself, are heads turning.... Every recent Las Vegas hire, I've met in the casino before going up to my room. Every recent home hire, Ive met on the street outside a coffee shop on my corner.

Meet in lobby, acknowledge each other with a nod, head into the elevator together, make sure the coast is clear as he follows you to the room, go in together - if you run into co-workers / friends - it happens - have the pro make a loop / grab ice / go to vending machine and come back to your room when clear - you can crack door of / be waiting close behind door to make his entrance quick and sneaky

Or get him a second key...

I'm probably not the target clientele for such places

Living in the SF Bay puts me in an environment where gay is passé; I don't need a safe gay place
    I find nudity entirely unintriguing.
Unlike many my age and a little older, I have never fantasized about gay resorts with blowjobs on the pool deck, or random knocks on the door. Its just not how I'm wired.

I stayed there to try something different, because the people I was visiting live 1/2 mile away, and because I hoped for some level of comfortable, platonic companionship when alone. I achieved the latter. It was great to chat with guys at breakfast, at the bar in the afternoons, and go out for a drink with one at night.

Im on G right now. Telling me a guy is 1 foot from me

Now maybe same room # different floor. Or directly beneath in lobby, meeting room

I dont trust the grindr GPS.

But its a handy screen. When a guy is 3 miles away, then 4389 miles away.... its a bot or live-scammer

I'll add a different perspective, responding to one element of original post. Perhaps too much emphasis on the comment...

... given the prevalence of scams in this marketplace, if dishonesty interferes with your enjoyment... maybe you're not wired for the hired.

Get used to it. Just as continued use of an email account "registers" it, increases the volume of spam, etc.... the more you use Grindr, the more you'll get phony contacts.

A very high percentage of users contacting me in the past 6 months... well beyond 50%.... fall into two scam categories

    1. Exactly as described... its a bot trying to get my phone number, or
    2. Location may not be disclosed. They're much younger, attractive but not an obvious fitness model... and after a bit they disclose they're either currently, or about to be, deployed in active military service. A financial solicitation follows.

I've stopped using Grindr at home. I use it when traveling... including day trips, outings. But thats also a function of living in suburbia. I recognize at least two-thirds of the guys that appear when I use it from home; I already know nothing's happening with them. If I turn on Grindr today, sitting in my home, I'll have 4-5 scams within 90 minutes, and not one contact from anyone legit... whether they'd be of interest to me or not.

Just as PCs get hacked more than Macs, gmail and yahoo get more spam than obscure.com email addresses... Grindr is most prevalent. Try another app like Scruff. It may not generate as much activity, but it will generate much less scam-tivity.

Getting the name Damo on Scruff app... I checked here... then declined. He unleashed a string of hostile comments, threats, name calling. I blocked him.
10 minutes later... I get a string of four Grindr messages from a guy using the name "traveling "
Go suck a dick old fuck. Stop Wasting people time online get a life. Asshole
Now I’m Gonna report your ass
I have your pics. And your phone number
    For harassing people

WOW! That is a Nutjob with anger issues. Made an effort to compare my Scruff profile and find me on Grindr just to continue venting his spleen.

And.. before some tells me not to worry... he doesn't have my phone number... and how could someone soliciting report anyone?

Know Delro from online-not in person. Could write volumes on Dr. Mike experiences. Dr. Mike had the knack of tuning into what would float his client's boat.

I found someone 18 months ago, using phony photos, who was hotter than his pics. Super polite, responsive, and a body that turned heads wherever we went. Alas, he's disappeared from the scene. I share, because... they're out there. Not easy to find... but they can be found.

After keeping me waiting 20 min in hotel lobby... guy was ready just as I was ready to move on.

Up to room, he immediately asked for money. I refused. Showed him I had money, offered to put $100 on table. He refused, told me we should just cancel. Explained prior client refused to pay after. I responded Id had several experiences of guys grabbing the money and ending things. He repeated his insistence, I repeated mine.

We worked it out, proceeded. I did NOT pay in advance. In hindsight, wish Id moved on.

LaffingBear got a reaction from + WilliamM in Are There Any Good Gay Cruises Out There
A 100% full ship gay cruise is not for me. But I am seeking either small gay cruises, or gay groups on a cruise, or even gay-friendly singles groups that travel. Particularly interested in some of the river cruises in in Europe.

I did a gay group on a mainstream cruise 20 years ago. Single, solo-travel in a group of about 50, 25% single/solo. It was a mixed experience. Being gay on the cruise ship never felt awkward or uncomfortable.... very welcomed and friendly treatment by staff, crew, and other passengers. Being solo was not an issue onboard. There was an organized cocktail hour every evening, and 20 years ago, dinners were still primarily main dining room events. Every night was fun; while people scattered in small groups after dinner, somehow everyone appeared at the dance club every night at midnight. Overall, I had a fantastic time onboard. However, there were daytime excursions where I found myself feeling alone and threw myself some brief pity-parties.

I'm ready to try again, and looking at options.

I talked to Alex a couple of days ago. Each weekend grows in attendance. Still working out details to make it a well know national venue. Word of mouth is building the business: a great gay dance club is emerging.

After the Summer ends (with its heat), he expects the national convention crowd that comes to Vegas to add to the crowds at the club.

Alex is doing most of his own website work and it is a question of time. I hope he gives it some attention soon.

My craziest experience wasnt a behavior, fetish, activity.

It was a guy who gave me a runaround for 10 hours, showed up for an hour session, stayed overnight, voluntarily waived his fee, told me he wanted to see me again, asked to borrow money as I drove him home, started to cry, bolted from my car, and ran off.

And while it was an insane ride, I must admit that the hours in my hotel room were some of the best ever spent in this pasttime.

People engage in irrational, time-wasting behaviors online all the time. They engage in online arguments.. seek confrontation on social media, have tweet-fights, etc.

Why do guys ask some of the inane questions we see on here? There are people who never have and never will hire a rentguy, but are fascinated by the topic and active here.

In all likelihood, he's not wasting your time with pointless arguments because he has CP; he's wasting your time with pointless arguments because he has access to the internet.
