    Yikes.
Drag is no different than being a mime or a clown, the only difference is that they wear "opposite gender" clothes (clothes are genderless). If you don't like them because "I don't like that kind of entertainment" is one thing, but not liking them because "as a gay man I don't want to dress up as a woman" it's like, "then don't? nobody is asking you to". Hating on drag queens for no real reason screams of internal homophobia. Figure out what about a man dressing as a woman triggers you so badly, especially when it's not you doing it, it's someone else. Drag shows aren't my cup of tea, but I don't care enough to make a post about it complain about it, that's the difference.

Pride is not about pleasing straight people or to fit whatever concept they have about us.

Excellent new doc about the Jane Collective, a network of women who worked to provide access to safe and affordable abortions at a time when it was illegal.  The best thing about this film is the women themselves, many of whom only agreed to participate when they saw that we were returning to the days of back-alley coat-hanger abortions.  I remember that era, but it was still shocking to be reminded of how little agency women had in those days, not only on the issue of reproductive choice, but many other things that are taken for granted today.

Great show.  I love the relationship between Sam and Joel.  Can't wait for season 2.

I find threads like this to be very childish.  I often remind myself of all the things providers have to endure, i.e, clients of all shapes and sizes who expect providers to sexually perform at a moment’s notice, bad client personal hygiene issues, smoker’s breath, clients being pissed off because they only got 57.3 minutes instead of a full hour, clients complaining his dick is only 7.5 in when he advertised 8 in.The list goes on and on.  And yet there are those of us here concerned about nail polish.

And spare me the comments that you’re paying good money to get what you want.  I don’t want to hear them.

While Bryan may not be your cup of tea he’s one of the good guys and I’ve enjoyed his company in the past.  I suspect he’s the one who’s dodged a bullet.  And if memory serves me correctly he is (or was) a Forum member.  If he’s still an active member here maybe we can here his side of the story.

I find it strange your first Forum post is to trash a provider. One thing I’ve learned over the years here on the Forum is that credibility is earned over time and not bestowed on a Forum member after one post.

i was in oakland a few months ago and it was funny how my friends there warned me that my old neighborhood has become full of homeless, motorcycle gands, pot smokers, prayer circles, etc, etc.
actually, they were just wrong. my old turf was vibrant and full of energy.
when i was in SF sure the people i like to think of as living on the edge were definitely out on the streets but where else are they supposed to go? was their presence unwelcome? sure - but there were only menacing to my sense of "how could this be happening here?", not to my personal safety.
there are some areas that have not gone the way of NYC-gentrification, sure - but i am not certain that is a 100% bad thing.

San Francisco, as well as California, has become a convenient punching bag for the media, and it's becoming really annoying. It has its urban problems, like most big cities, and it suffered badly during the covid lockdowns, like most big cities. And yet it attracts a disproportionate amount of scorn from the media, which often has a different bone to pick and uses SF to illustrate whatever point it wants to make.
So cranky rant aside, I'm glad the OP has thought to ask, rather than just rely on what the media reports. Yes there are indeed homeless, but I've never had a problem with them and I've lived here 25 years. The Tenderloin is gritty and depressing, but also has those cool things that the rosy summary @azdr0710 cited. Great American is one of my favorite places to see shows. But also add 6th Street between Market and Howard to the list, that place is grim and is classic skid row. I used to live a half-block away from there, and though I never had any safety problems, it was a bit much to take in.
Things got quiet and miserable during the covid lockdowns, but now the city's neighborhoods have bounced back. The Castro is vibrant, and the "parklets" (sidewalk dining) that were introduced during covid have mostly remained so there are a lot of people out and about. There are still too many vacant storefonts in the Castro, but that predates the pandemic and doesn't take away from things.
Recently I've been to a couple of restaurants on Union Street and in the Marina, and while I have tended to not considered those areas my scene, I was impressed how vibrant the areas are and how much fun it was. SF is a city of neighborhoods, but unfortunately so many of the hotels are located downtown so not everyone gets to experience that. A friend just visited and stayed at Parker Guest House, near Dolores Park, and had a great time. We went to a cafe next to Duboce Park, ate at my favorite breakfast place in Dogpatch, and had fun dancing at a club on 11th Street.
I've lived here since 1998, and had been coming to the City for years before that. It has indeed changed, and I still think my favorite time here was the 90s. But I was younger then, and like any dynamic city things keep changing. There are things I miss from years gone by, but other cool new things appear as well. I'll admit I'm biased and like it here despite its flaws.

Often, people who live in  cozy, affluent suburbs like Danville are fearful of the inner city and tend to magnify in their minds the poor conditions and the dangers associated therewith.   I remember, when I lived in Rochester in the 80s, I happened on a job opportunity for my nephew who was in high school,  who had grown up, and barely had ever been out of, a mid-scale suburb.  When I called him and told him about it, he asked me if it was downtown, and I said yes.   He responded "No way man.  I'm not going downtown!!"  Thing was, downtown Rochester had just been the object of an exhaustive urban renewal project and looked brand-spanking new.  New convention center, hew hotels, vintage buildings renovated, etc. etc.
