In part this market was created by the sub-par product the studios have been putting out. Many of the vids on the fans sites the guys plan, shoot and edit themselves. I agree that technology has played a part in this. Those that might have been escorts see a better trade off posting content rather than having to have sex with someone they might not normally be attracted to. And those that would have been clients see a better trade off paying less money to still see those they would have had sex with, even if only digitally. I also think, the same as with sexuality and racism, while generally there is a more accepting social norm to sex work/escorting, sexual identity, and racial equality, the ends of the spectrum have become very polarized. Meaning, there is still way to big a sigma attached to "having sex for money". For example, its almost always more easily received having/being a sugar daddy rather then being/hiring an escort. Take that stance, combine it with social media and technology, and Onlyfans instead is where we end up.
