  1. My rehab has been a little bit counter-intuitive. Conventional wisdom has it that once you've had a fusion, you're done doing squats and deadlifts. I do squats and deadlifts. I do keep the resistance down. I had some problems with my hips but I have a set of hip mobility exercises that keeps my hips very comfortable. I've only had two procedures - a l3-s1 decompression in 2009 and a l4-s1 fusion in 2011. In addition to curing my back pain, it cured me of ever having an elective surgery again.
  2. In the UK, the NHS will not pay for Prep. So they do what I do. HIV/AIDS service orgs in the UK are recommending the generic Truvada from India.
  3. Sometimes the docs don't know. When I told mine I was taking a generic to Truvada that I got from India, he asked me if I had difficulty affording the branded drug. I told him how much cost and he was shocked.

  5. Actually, the member services guy that I talked to at Kaiser before I went on Medicare looked at my scripts and said I might actually be money ahead if I could stay with conventional coverage. From describing it, it sounds like I'm hopelessly ill, but I'm not. I take a handful of things for asthma and allergies. The only thing I take that is semi-exotic, besides Truvada, is one of the new-generation blood thinners, called direct thrombin inhibitors, for a clotting problem. I think it's sad that I have to buy meds offshore, but I don't mind it too much. I'm just glad there's an alternative. So, if you expect your part C coverage to actually pay for your prescription drugs, you have to stick with old tried-and-true standbys and generics. No Truvada or any of those exotic biologics that they advertise on prime-time TV
  6. I've had my share of back problems and taken bushels of neurontin, norco, tramadol, dilaudid and valium. I even enjoyed it. But after I didn't need it, I didn't take it. I had my last spine surgery 7 years ago. I have worked so hard at rehab that I am pain free, it's as though none of it ever happened.
  7. With private insurance, your strategy makes perfect sense. With Kaiser, my co-pay for a 90-day supply of Truvada was $70.00. That was my only OOP cost. Medicare changes everything. Medicare part C doesn't take into account the preponderance of drugs such as antivirals and biologics that cost tens of thousands per year. So a huge number are pushed into the doughnut hole where you have to cover nearly 100% of the cost of your prescription drugs. In 2018, you need to spend $5000.00 OOP while you are in the doughnut hole, before you get to the other side that qualifies you for catastophic prescription coverage, which covers nearly your entire cost. I'm getting almost all of my prescription drugs from India. I take one drug that retails in the US for $300.00 per month. I get the same drug from India for $50.00 for a 90-day supply. I take one drug that I could get from India, but it would be a huge hassle. That one I get from Kaiser. A year's supply of that one drug retails for almost $4k, so it alone will almost get me into the doughnut hole by the end of the plan year. Fortunately, everything resets at the beginning of the new plan year.

It helps to learn to see food as fuel and to learn that you don't have to reward yourself with a sensual experience every time you eat.
  9. It's a very Byzantine website. I had it figured out once, but then forgot after not visiting the site for awhile. I did all that because I was taken with a Turkish guy named Erkan and wanted to be able to locate his profile easily.
  10. I'm on medicare now, and the truvada, along with my other prescription drugs, would push me into the doughnut hole in two months. For the past year, I've been taking a generic from India that costs 50.00/month.
  11. Another spelling nazi.
  12. My mother was quite dissatisfied with life, and always pined after nicer furniture, a bigger house, a better neighborhood, a more dynamic husband, being surrounded by a better class of people, and so on. When she could no longer live alone, we placed her in an independent living facility that was part of the Geriatric Care Center at Emory University. She was eaten alive with anger at having been "put in a home," and so failed to realize that she had achieved her dream of hanging out with a better class of people. She was surrounded by retired academics, military officers, C-level executives, clergymen and their spouses. I always enjoyed visiting her because the other residents were so interesting and nice. There was a retired philosophy professor who had a real shine for her. When I met him, we just clicked and had a long satisfying conversation. She told me that he was eager for my next visit so we could spend some more time together. And I felt the same way. Alas, he died before I could make it back there.
  13. But some specialize in it. If I were going to take psychoactive drugs long-term, I think I would want the therapy managed by a specialist.
  14. Many years ago, I ran a marathon. It was a mofo.
  15. Aren't those guys called psychopharmacologists?
  16. I discovered these cool little devices at the dispensary. They are little vaporizers that are preloaded with extract. You inhale from one end and stop when the thing buzzes, so you get (sort of) a metered dose. They come with different formulations of cannabinoids that are designed to have different effects. "Bliss" does just that - puts you in beautiful frame of mind where nothing worries you. "Passion" puts you in the mood for sex. It works great for fisting. "Sleep" did make me very sleepy, but, at the same time, kept me awake. And there are other blends for pain relief, focus, etc. I think they would be great to take along when you're going to meet a man at a hotel. You don't have to worry about smoking the place up.
  17. As a client, I wouldn't want to take the time for a meet and greet. And I wouldn't want to waste the escort's time. Years ago, when I was still in the labor market, if I was looking for a job, and a potential employer called to schedule an interview, I would always ask "Will I be meeting with the hiring authority?" If HR just wanted to talk to me for a screening interview, I would try to get them to agree to a telephone interview. If they wouldn't go for the phone interview, I would go in if I thought I really wanted the job. But if it was iffy, I just thanked them for their interest and told them that I didn't have time for an in-person screening interview.
  18. VapiNG is considerably more friendly to the respiratory tract, but it is still irritating.
  19. My partner and some of our friends complain about the same thing- feeling invisible. Im not looking for much attention from younger men, so Im not even aware of whether they pay attention to me or not. I'm more excited by a foxy 50 yo whos into edgy sex.
  20. I like granddaddy purple. It puts me in a very toppish mood that my partner just loves.
  21. They were both in the military during WWII. She was a dental assistant in the Navy and he was a Marine. At the end of the war, they were both stationed at the same naval base. He came into the dental clinic where she was assigned to have his wisdom teeth out, and she assisted the dentist who did the procedure. After that was done, he came back and asked her out. They had a whirlwind wartime courtship, marrying after they had known each other for six weeks.
  22. My Grandma was my buddy. We would watch TV, have long chats in the afternoon and just enjoyed each other. My Grandfather was a grouchy old guy who nobody liked.
  23. Why not? DNA is DNA, whether it comes from epithelial cells in a saliva sample or blood cells in a blood draw.
  24. Correct. With the mitochondrial and y-chromosome analysis they can determine the maternal and paternal haplotypes.
  25. They can make inferences as to ethnicity but a genetic analysis cannot positively reveal ethnicity-at least not yet. 23andme costs 99.00. I'm sure you can spend a lot more than that if you're so inclined.
