I have stayed at CCBC, Canyon Club, El Mirasol, and Desert Paradise, plus other Palm Springs gay hotels that are now closed.   Of these I mentioned, I can recommend El Mirasol and Desert Paradise.
Canyon Club is good for the cheap rate, but it's very hit or miss on whether you get an updated room.  Even if you get an updated room, it's miles below the quality of experience at any other gay clothing-optional hotel.
I wouldn't touch CCBC again; I've stayed overnight in bathhouses that were nicer.  Only visit CCBC on a day pass if you need to.
El Mirasol was very pleasant.  I stayed there last weekend.  There's a hot tub and two pools (one heated saltwater and one not-heated chlorine).  It was not crowded, but the men I met were frisky enough 😉.
I last stayed at Desert Paradise pre-pandemic, and the hotel has changed owners twice since then.  It was a decent property when I stayed there; and, it looks like they've continued to make improvements.
The two nicest gay hotels everyone talks about are Hacienda and INNdulge.  Unfortunately, I have never stayed at either because they are both above my budget.
Triangle Inn is on my list of gay hotels to try based on pleasant reviews and decent prices, but I haven't had the opportunity yet.  It is smaller than the other hotels mentioned.

Don’t do what I did many years ago, before the Internet. I ordered a massage in my 5 star hotel, the New Otani, in Tokyo. I wasn’t expecting an erotic massage but at least hoped for an attractive male masseur to kneed my muscles. 
What I got was an old wrinkled hag who draped my body and only worked specific areas after drawing back a few inches of towel. Ugh.

I always chuckle when I see it written out like that. Translated it would read "the the tar tar pits."

I don't know where you live, but I live in NYC and that is not my experience. Yes, prices are up but not nearly that much.  Maybe I am just lucky? Highest price increase in my basket has been the cost of lube! It's outrageous! 🤭

Thank you so much for your comment. I actually have all the things you mentioned in your first paragraph to hand already in the guest bedroom. I just bought my first flat in London last on my own so I have kitted it out with really fancy, schmancy stuff. 😁
But yes, I’ll definitely ensure everything is spotless. I also pay my masseur by bank transfer before the session (I trust him as I book him via an agency) so we don’t have to discuss money at all during the session itself. 

I’d expect fresh flowers, somewhere to hang my clothes, some candles for atmosphere, music playing (something classical, I find Mahler or Debussy quite good for massage), Egyptian cotton sheets on the bed of course (not too high a thread count…I’ll judge you on that) and a phone charger should my phone be running low. Payment should be done discreetly afterwards (I find it awkward to ask so please offer it as I dress, in cash). 
Seriously though….all I look for with an out call is a clean and tidy room, space for my table (if I’ve bought it), no distractions and the possibility to shower afterwards. It sounds like you have all that and more covered! 
 
 

We have had dates in the past and we follow each other’s personal social media accounts. I am not looking for anything more with him (I appreciate that’s a real concern with providers). I just wanted to ensure that he had a good time the first time he came over to my place. But I’ve taken the feedback to tone it down onboard as I don’t want it to come across like I’m after something other than a good client/provider relationship.

I haven't been in a gay bar for many years....but I recall the last time I was in a gay dance club the bartenders were selling nothing but water because you can't drink alcohol on GHB.

Ironic that he simultaneously lists
"Into party" and also "healthy" in the same profile.
It's sad when young gay men spend so much time at the gym getting themselves looking so sexy only to blow it all away by getting addicted to meth. ☹️
 

used to think the same thing.......until I witnessed several ultra-"masc", "you'd never guess" studs who wanted nothing more than that........begging for it, basically!.......took me years, but I now realize it's very definitely not all black-and-white........

I met Trev in September 2021 and he had only been advertising on RM for a couple of months. I was glad I got in on the ground floor as his career rocketed soon after. I had an overnight with him and an evening date with his buddy. So two times and he was a lot of fun.

I'm curious - what did your friend say about the provider?  how did your friend know you had an upcoming appointment with him?
 
I agree with all the above - 24 hours notice is fine, but it also may do well to send $50 Venmo cancelation fee or something to ease it over. he may have refused other bookings for you in that time slot.  from what I know of providers, they are not all seeing multiple clients every day.
