As an aside, a fellow forum member and I were driving and looking for a place to eat.  We went into a small breakfast and lunch place, which turned out to be a training restaurant for differently abled young people being taught how to properly do service jobs.  They were supervised carefully and it turned out to be a unique and moving experience.  
While we were seated, we decided to look at the reviews on Yelp.  As I recall, there were all 5 star reviews and one 1 star review. 
We discussed how incredulous we were at someone reviewing this restaurant with that kind of critical evaluation.  We searched for the negative review and the essence of the review was that the reviewer had come to the restaurant and it was after hours and closed.  That was it.  The person had not eaten at the restaurant at all.  
Whenever I see a bad review on here, I consider it but I also realize that the reviewer may have an agenda that is not in keeping with mine and that other positive reviewers need to be weighed against the negative outlier, if indeed it is an outlier.

one time, I had a guy with a huge number of 5 star reviews show up at my house for a massage, crawl on top of me and say “I’ll move into this house and make you my bitch”.  Hmmm,  yeah…I should have asked his consent to tell that story here. 🙄

I had a legit massage once, and it felt like the guy was making love to me in the sense that I felt protected and safe.
 
And then one time, I had a massage and the 'sensual' elements were cold, detached, and mechanical.

A very, very long time ago I was getting a sensual massage in Los Angeles. Decent massage, lots of mutual touch, after I roll over he begins the “happy ending”. I say something like “wow that feels so erotic”.
He stops what he’s doing and says “I don’t do erotic massage!”. He still finished me, but I was laughing inside - it also pointed out to me the complete uselessness of debating erotic vs. sensual. Too subjective, too many opinions and feelings on both sides of the table.

Giving a great massage requires a lot of energy. Providing porn sex requires a ton of energy. I don't know how anyone can sustain both, while making a career out of it. I'm burned out just from reading about members sexual appetites.

The last guy who asked me for a picture stood me up for another client. I walked past them in the hotel lobby. For the record, he had negative reviews on RM and here, so I was being foolish.
What made me most upset was that he made me go to the hotel. I wasted a week talking with him and then another day trying to meet him.

That’s not quite true though is it. The guys requiring a face pic are choosing you. These guys aren’t really escorts; they’re guys who have discovered they can monetise their sex life. Is that going to be a fun session?

Quite a few lol. One of the more unusual ones is a boxing role play. I’m the coach, client is my boxer who I am massaging before his fight. Come on guys.  I think we can agree on many things:
1) providers have risks to mitigate and clients do too
2) reviews and/or personal experience matter in assessing the reliability of a provider
3) no one operates in a vacuum.  Some markets are deserts with few providers and it’s a seller’s market.  Others are saturated and it’s a buyer’s market 
4) we each have an amount that we define as token - for some it’s $50, others it’s $250, others it’s more.  The more it is to US, the more it matters on whether we should accede to a deposit and how much we can risk.
There is not a single incumbent provider in New Orleans I want to see - if they’re my type, they are probably addicts and unreliable.  When we have an appealing visitor, I absolutely am willing to pay a deposit when it feels right. Otherwise, I’m importing talent at great expense and the deposit is called a “plane ticket.”
