  1. Since the original post was about yesterday, I ate-- Breakfast: A poached egg, an English muffin with cream cheese, coffee with 2% milk Lunch: A pastrami on rye sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion, and Russian dressing, sparkling water Afternoon Snack: A banana Dinner: Leftover rotisserie chicken (cold), broccoli, rice, a glass of red wine Evening Snack: Popcorn, another glass of red wine This morning I had an egg over-easy, whole wheat toast with butter, coffee with 2% milk I haven't had lunch yet but it will be a sandwich, maybe tuna salad Dinner tonight is probably Chinese food-- the place that delivers for free near me has delicious Szechuan string beans with shrimp, I'm leaning towards that.
  2. When Ireland got its independence from the UK, they tried hard to revive Irish as a spoken language, which the British had all but wiped out. Everyone studied it in school, signs were in Irish, etc. They eventually relented and put English, in smaller letters, under the Irish place names on road signs. I think the country has largely given up on this goal, but the signs are still bilingual. (By the way no one in Ireland ever calls the language Gaelic when they're speaking English, that's just the Irish word for Irish.)
  3. Any info on this guy? He's younger than I usually go for, but I like tall lean guys and he checks those boxes. https://rent.men/TopStudTony
  4. Many good reasons given here but I'll offer another-- with smaller families, fewer people have grown up sharing a room. My 2 brothers and I all shared a room for a time, and a bathroom, we were naked in front of each other nearly every day. My son at the Naval Academy shared a room with his twin and a bathroom with him and their older brother all his life. (Their end of the upstairs hall was pretty uncivilized most of the time.) His two roommates never shared a room with anyone. My son told us all one of them changes in the shower stall, and they both joke about how comfortable my kid is being naked in front of them. At one point their proposed motto for the room was "He's Naked Again."

    Twins

I wonder about this happening with my twins. Currently as alike as two peas in a pod, they are pursuing extremely different lives. One thinks he wants to be a computer engineer, the other a Navy SEAL or pilot. We'll see how much they diverge as time goes on.
  6. If it's an older translation, "corn" just means grain. Even now the British use the word that way sometimes.
  7. I feel obliged to point out that "Cain Marko" is the real name of The Juggernaut in Marvel Comics. He's Professor X's stepbrother. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juggernaut_%28comics%29
  8. I like tall, lean, broad-shouldered guys, so- Corbin Fisher's Dru Sean Cody's Brooks and Sean My vintage choice, Eric Manchester (not sure he was tall, but the physique was right).
  9. I have a circle of close friends of whom I'm very fond, but it's not a huge one. A much larger circle of more casual friends, and older friends whom I see less frequently. Something I found after my wife's death is that many friends drifted away, either because they didn't know how to behave with me, my widowerhood made them uncomfortable, or our lives and interests diverged after that. I am deeply grateful to the friends who supported me, and included me, when I was a single father.
  10. My son's at the Naval Academy where it's been a hot topic. This story is from 2016, but I don't think any action's been taken. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2016/06/14/navy-expands-review-of-gender-specific-job-titles.html
  11. Women officers in the military are addressed as "ma'am." Other terms, such as "Airman" and Midshipman" have been discussed as needing to change but I think even the women in the military have not pressed for it. The Navy is reviewing the possibility of renaming some specific job titles, such as "Corpsman," "Yeoman," "Fireman," etc., but hasn't made any changes yet.
  12. And now, the summer starts to recede. We took Navy twin back to the Academy yesterday, where he met the new Plebes. As a sophomore (known as "Youngsters"), he'll be given a Plebe to mentor, and he can't wait, his experience with his Youngster last year was very positive. He has briefings all weekend, and classes start Monday. The population of the house is back down to three. The goodbye was easier for us all, last year there was so many unknowns. Soon I'll repeat the trip from last summer, driving DePaul twin to Chicago and Fordham brother to New York. The boys seemed so mature to me these past weeks, yes goofy sometimes but also responsible and hard-working. One surprise is that hundreds of miles apart with totally different lives, the twins both had added some muscle but still have identical builds. DePaul twin says he knew Navy twin was being physically challenged all the time and so he challenged himself to keep up. They arrived home at different parts of the summer with the exact same haircut. Older brother even said, "How do you do that?" They responded in unison, "Skype," and he rolled his eyes. Some things never change, I guess.
  13. I have wondered this, especially in regards to the many straight, "gay4pay," porn performers. Does porn really pay well enough that it makes it better enough than another job that it makes it possible to function with someone you have no sexual attraction to? (I have no idea how much porn pays.)
  14. I denied it to myself until I was 25 or so. I don't think anyone suspected so I never had to deny it to anyone else.
  15. When I first started watching gay porn, I would sometimes google them for more info on their careers. I was surprised by how easy it was to find real names and personal info. When I came across a former Corbin Fisher model's pictures with his wife and children, it started to feel stalker-y to me so I haven't done that in years.
  16. I'm so sorry for your loss, David. I hope the knowledge of how much you enriched his life is a comfort.
  17. An overdue update. As of last week, all three are at home, We picked up Navy twin when he returned from sailing up the East Coast last week. He had an awesome time, and his favorite part was helming the sailboat in the middle of the night during a raging storm. Just what dad likes to hear. Older bother has a part time job and DePaul twin a full time one, so Navy twin is home alone a bit-- he says he doesn't mind but is happiest when we're all there. Me too. Of course, his gf is back in DC too so he's out a lot in the evening. Having taken a break, DePaul twin and his gf are back together for the summer, and older brother is pining away for his gf in Boston, and talks to her every day. Both twins have grown, so all three are the same height now. Older brother has grown more mature in demeanor, perhaps because life after college is approaching. The twins, once away from Annapolis, quickly resumed being goofballs. We have Navy twin for only a few more weeks, but for now the house feels like the old days.
  18. In recent years, birthdays have been pretty family-oriented, and simple. Dinner at a restaurant with my folks and sons, or at my parents' house, or at home with the boys cooking. Last year, with the boys all away, my parents took me out to our favorite restaurant, and at home I skyped with the kids.
  19. It's been quite a while, but he's often on rentmen's DC listings, so he must be around. Maybe he moved to another neighborhood.
  20. I honestly don't think I've seen a woman nurse in public in a way that her breast was visible. They sell cape/shawl-like garments so it's perfectly modest.
  21. Sometimes, but usually i save some money and get Deer Patk sparkling. My favorite flavor is orange.
  22. Oops, edited! Typing on my phone...
  23. I drink filtered water at home, but I've become very fond of sparkling water, which I buy in bottles, usually six-packs.
  24. Several years ago I had a work-related trip to Berlin, Germany. I was surprised that people going to the hotel spa simply left their rooms in the hotel bathrobe and rode the elevator to the spa's floor. It was totally normal to see people in robes in the halls on their way to or from a massage or the sauna. Not the lobby, I think.
