I'd like to give this event a try next year if I can get a friend to go with me. Is that allowed, or is it strictly for board members only?????

You can always bring a guest. Just make sure that you RSVP all events and the hosts are aware. It is not polite to show up with surprise guests.

Once again I am booked for next year. Six days once again so that I can have one day to settle in and one day to unwind. Hopefully David SF will still want to host a pre-party party on Thursday. Friday is usually full though there are no formal events and Saturday and Sunday are hectic. Monday I unwind and Tuesday I head out.

Hi CS - we would welcome you to the events and you may certainly bring a guest, as long as you have informed me beforehand. In addition to needing to know how many people for the restaurants, and for my chef de cuisine, Epigonos, I must know who will be in my home, as I'm sure you understand. This year I was taken aback by having some people I didn't know about show up at my home on Sunday afternoon. Someone had apparently give them an invitation without clearing it with me. There were a couple who attended that I had been asked about in a polite manner prior to the gathering and I was happy to meet them.

Come and join us!:)

Tried to book The Hacienda, but they don’t allow you to reserve that far in advance. I’ll call them when I get back in the US. I may consider InnDulge.

InnDulge allows you to book exactly 365 days out on your full reservation. They also give priority to guests who have stayed there previously. This was my first time staying there and I was impressed. Accommodations are nice and well maintained. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. There’s an evening social hour hosted by the owners of the property every day. Plus there’s a breakfast each morning where everyone gathers for relaxing and conversation. I met a couple of people from DC that I’d seen around town but never met.

I had a “superior” room which is the basic level. It was nice but a little smaller than I would have preferred. The next level up is “deluxe” which is larger and has a small kitchenette. I booked a deluxe room for 2019. There are 31 rooms on property which makes it one of the larger resorts. Each room has a different configuration so I’d suggest asking them about room types when you book.

The vibe is entirely different from Canyon Club there’s not the level of action going on at Inndulge. It’s a resort and some guys are clothing optional but just as many are not. Some you don’t mind seeing “optional” and others you wish were a bit more modest. The hot tub gets active and frisky after people have returned late from visiting the clubs around Palm Springs.

It’s directly across from La Hacienda.

I hope this is helpful in making your hotel choice. :)

Steven, this year, 6 months out, I booked two rooms at Canyon Club. One was for myself. The other was offered up here as an extra last minute room for anyone who made a late decision. A poster here contacted me through an escort and he booked the room for 2 of the 4 days. A few days later, he had to cancel. As the deadline approached, I made one last offer and ultimately cancelled the reservation. Canyon Club was booked and that vacancy lasted about 12 hours after my cancellation. It did not cost me anything to do this except for the deposit, which went toward my own room anyway.

I think the idea of booking all of Canyon Club and having as many people as possible stay there is a great one. However, there are others who need more privacy, more luxury or perhaps less partying and so one size will not likely fit all.

I will be booking one extra room again, so those people who are late to realizing just how much fun this weekend will be, can still have a chance to get in on the action.

Thank you PK . That's exactly the info I was looking for.

I moved that quote from the Palm Springs 2018 thread to the Palm Springs 2019 thread since this discussion seems more appropriate here, in terms of planning for next year.

@stevenkesslar I’m not clear if you’re suggesting to formally contract a block of rooms or just making a group of advance reservations.

Okay, here's what I'm suggesting, bottom line. Let's think about informally booking 2 or 3 extra rooms. I don't think we need to have a contract with CC to do so. If it makes sense to people, I think we should just do it, informally.

Now let me take a step back and walk through the possible logic of this.

I went online and started the reservation process for Inndulge that weekend and got this message:

Check-in:

4/12/2019

Check-out:

4/15/2019

Sorry, we have no available rooms for the requested dates. Feel free to email us at INNdulgeReservations@gmail.com to see if we might be able to shuffle things to accommodate your request or if there's an available One Bedroom Suite as well. Or you can call us at (760)327-1408.

I called Inndulge and learned that right now they are only about 35 % full for that weekend. The reason that message came up is it's considered a holiday weekend due to Coachella, so they have a minimum 4 night stay. When I went online and added a 4th night - presto! - I got a bunch of options. Although having to stay 4 nights may not be everybody's preference. Also, it's more expensive. The least expensive I got for 4 nights at Inndulge was $900, whereas when I went online for CC yesterday I could get a Studio King on the pool level for $300 for 3 nights.

More important, what the guy at Inndulge told me is that for pretty much ANY weekend in season they book up 6-9 months in advance. So that confirms what ArVaGuy has been saying: we should pick a weekend now, which Oliver did, because any weekend in March or April is a potential problem. So the biggest problem is already solved. We have a weekend, so if you want to book: BOOK NOW!

Here's one other important factoid, Inndulge's cancellation policy:

HOLIDAYS, EVENT WEEKENDS, & MARCH RESERVATIONS: Forty five (45) days prior to arrival date, a non-refundable deposit equal to half of your stay (room and tax) will be charged to your credit card. Reservations cancelled less than 45 days prior to arrival date will forfeit the deposit made.

By comparison, CC has a 72 hour cancellation policy, or 7 days for special event weekends. I'm going to assume this is a special event weekend.

I think we should anticipate that anybody who wants to try to book a room in January or February or March 2019 is going to have a problem.

I agree with everything PK says above and commend how he dealt with it this year. My own view is that for various reasons - work schedule, health issues - there will be people who just can't book this far out. On the other hand, bottom line is that the person PK tried to help ended up cancelling anyway, so it's not like there really was a huge real world crisis to be solved this past year.

I'm having dinner with Oliver Tuesday night and I will ask him about this. I think I will suggest that in addition to PK, who says he has already booked an extra room at CC, I may book a room at CC and I may see if Oliver or a third person wants to do so as well. My own sense is that 3 extra rooms would probably be overkill, but it more than covers our asses. (Except for Victor. Sorry, we don't want yours covered).

PK is right that CC may not be to everybody's taste - so to speak. But they are less expensive and their cancellation policies are really optimal - you are charged a $100 deposit and can wait until only a week in advance, whereas with Inndulge it's a 45 day cancellation and a much larger deposit.

If the problem we are trying to solve is to have a few affordable rooms available for people who try to book late, I think this is the simplest way to do it. If they don't like CC and can afford fancier digs and those digs are available, that's their business. But if everything is booked up by early 2019 we can use this forum to let people know there are some rooms, like PK just did this year.

I'm also aware that we don't want to piss off CC. But my guess is that if they have a few rooms cancel at the last minute that is standard practice for a place like that. As PK said above, when he cancelled this year somebody else booked it within hours. So it just means someone else will get lucky. And we know that AS A FACT, because in this case it means they get to spend the weekend hanging around the pool with PK.

I also just spoke with Epigonos about this. It's funny, because he's a conservative and I'm a liberal, and in this case I think that matters. He tends to not like the nanny state, and I tend to be okay with nannyism. So in this case part of what it boils down to is that you can say that if you didn't get your act together and book in advance, it's your loss. I tend to think like a government bureaucrat, that we should plan ahead that for whatever reason some people just aren't going to do that. We're both right. He agreed with me that there is no huge problem that actually needs to be solved here, but on the other hand he sees no good reason not to book a few extra rooms. He actually has a reservation at Inndulge already, as a backup, which he may or may not end up using. So that helps as well.

I'm going to run all this by Oliver. But does anybody else have suggestions about making rooms available for late deciders in 2019?

Hi, thanks for being so nice <3

And don't worry, I completely understand. I wouldn't want unexpected guests showing up @ my house either. I'll RSVP & let y'all know if I'm bringing a guest & what he's like as soon as I know for certain if I'm going or not. Probs won't be until later in the year tho. I'm here in Cali, so it'd just be a couple hours drive, easy stuff. :)

If you call Canyon Club to book a room for that weekend, you can get four nights for $300, versus the $900 that Inndulge is apparently charging for those same four nights. Wayne and I have stayed at Inndulge, and it's a nice resort. It's certainly nicer than Canyon Club. But in my opinion, it's not three times as nice. :)

Also, unlike Inndulge, Canyon Club is not considering that weekend a holiday weekend. If they were, Wayne and I wouldn't have gotten our fourth night free. So Canyon Club might be a better option for those who can't stay four nights. Some of the rooms at Canyon Club are pretty nice, albeit more expensive.
