When I met him in the lobby of the hotel, I was stunned -- broad shoulders filled out a nicely tailored dark suit and tie, he carried a shapka (fur hat) and nice overcoat (it was -15° F), and those sparkling shoes (and I do not have a foot fetish). This guy was 5'10" and about 190 lbs of pure muscle on a blond god with one of the nicest set of melons squeezed into his pants). But I digress..

Digress, @adriano46, digress, please continue digressing. Pretty please. :p

While he has sadly retired, there was an escort who loved to go to operas and over more than a decade, we attended dozens. He was a singer on Broadway and off and did a decent Nessum Dorma. Cultured and good looking and sexually wonderful. Escorts like that come along once in a life time.

Well speaking of Nessun Dorma, one recently retired escort who was based in LA did a decent Nessun Dorma for me as well. He also did Fredrick's aria from The Pirates of Penzance. He did spend some time in NYC before moving to the West Coast. I wonder if it could have been the same guy? He was a lyric tenor and did sing the small role of Don Curzio in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro on stage.

Of course there also was the escort who told me that Vincenzo Bellini was a Twentieth Century composer because the MET's current production of La Sonnambula was updated as such. He did not exactly appreciate it when I attempted to correct him... Loooong story there, but he's retired as well...

Many years ago in NY, I hired an escort, and when I arrived at his East Side apartment, I realized that I had seen him onstage at the NY City Opera a few weeks earlier. But now I can't remember who he was or what the role was! (the operatic role, I mean--he was definitely a top). I only remember that he had a barber's chair in his living room, so I suppose I should call him Figaro.

I did see Austin Wolf as somebody's elbow candy at the Metropolitan Opera. His attire was entirely inappropriate for the occasion, but he seemed to be enjoying himself. It was a 'Das Rheingold' performance.

yes, he's a performer and he's been trying to get into other gigs too.

I think he'll do a fine "Finding Prince Charming II"

I would prefer to hire the escort for fun in the afternoon, and then enjoy the opera on my own in the evening, especially if it is Rheingold, which has no intermissions during which one can parade around one's escort to show off.

But Charlie-some of us don't like to attend things by ourselves. One of the things I liked most about having a weekend with an escort, assuming we clicked, was that I finally had someone to go to a play with, see a movie with, take a tour of the city with, and got to have ... once we were back to the hotel. :rolleyes:Now I realize the majority of you out there probably aren't as socially alone as I am-or was. But I looked forward to the companionship.

If someone thinks they want to take Austin, there's something physical they may want to consider. What I mean is Austin's stature. He's over 6 feet tall. I think he's 6'3" or 6'4" and a very solid built guy. When I took him out several years ago, he made some kind of mention of not always enjoying performances because the seating was uncomfortable for him. The reason I recall this was we ended up at a smaller theater. The rows were very steep. The seating wasn't that comfortable for me either. I'm not saying you shouldn't hire him if he's your type. But if you know it's one of the extremely timy theaters, maybe a slightly smaller escort wouldn't be as inconvenienced by small seats.

Or Armond Rizzo, you could save the price of a seat and just have him on your lap for the whole show

I'm not sure that would be a good idea. Considering this is opera, and everyone would be dressed to the 9's, someone might mistake you for Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy.:p:D

Actually the mode of dress even at the MET has gone down hill during the last thirty years. I recall a 1986 performance of I Puritani with Joan Sutherland where an older gentleman was sitting in what is now the premium section of the orchestra and he was dressed like a lumberjack with jeans and a loud red plaid shirt. He stuck out like a sore thumb back then. He would blend in a bit better now and definitely in the upper balcony and family circle.

This past year I noticed a gentleman sitting in the Grand Tier section with a tux and it was he who stood out like a sore thumb. So times have changed. Indeed on the MET website under what to wear it states that there is no dress code. They do mention that if you need inspiration regarding what to wear to check out all 93 pages of the following blog:

Please tell me WHY you would even stand still long enough to let someone take your picture...if you are at the MET.....dressed like THAT?

I agree with you at some level. I DO like formality, and welcome any social occasion to dress up. However the Met, and even more so, the Philarmonic, desperately need to attract a younger crowd and a new generation of fans. Mercedes Bass' millions will not last forever ...

...

My guess WG, is that your lyric tenor is indeed the same escort as BJ references...a fantastic escort and wonderful man, too! Though retired, I hope he and his S.O. are realizing the dream they have worked so hard to achieve!
