My iphone X from June 2019 is still going strong, though I often get messages that I'm out of icloud storage and should pay for more. So far, I haven't. The system tells me that my last successful backup was in Feb. 2022. All of my photos are backed up regularly on my Amazon account which is included in my Amazon membership. I keep a notebook of all my usernames and passwords, so that's my backup for those. I've kept each previous cellphone until it literally fell apart or some function just stopped working. I'll probably shop for a new phone at the very first sign of any trouble with this one, though.

I've just realized I need to pay for additional backup though, because I have voicemails and texts from my mother who passed away a couple of months after I bought the phone, and I don't want to lose those.

I also get those icloud messages in one of my imail spam folders. I have ignored them for weeks because I don't know if they are real. New photos that I take with the phone continue to show up on the phone's photo storage.

Come on 99 cents/month for entry level extra iCloud storage. I just did it for my 94 yo dad bcs his iPad wasn’t backing up due to insufficient storage.

I get the popup messages on my iphone. They also show up in my system settings on my iphone.

Yes, my photos still show up on my phone but the messages mean they are only on my phone and not backed up anywhere else. So, if something happens to the phone, the photos would be lost. That's why I have them all backed up in my Amazon account.

I totally agree. I initially refused when the messages first appeared after about 2 years because the monthly phone payments had recently ended and it was a matter of principle. Now it's just plain stubbornness. 😖

The photos I take with my iPhone also show up on my iPad, and vice versa, so they must be cached on a cloud somewhere.

This is the gayest reason ever to buy a phone, but I’ll probably buy the new Pro Max when I get back to the US because I love the deep blue color.  I bought the 16 Plus instead of the 16 Pro Max because I simply had to have the teal, but now I’m bored with it.

I still have an iPhone X from November 2018!  I don’t really have any problem with it other than the storage issue and that there an issue with one of the mics (the call function is only audible on speaker and the audio of videos goes in and out… this has been an issue for several years so not just because it’s an old phone).
