High West Campfire is a nice blend of Rye, Scotch and Bourbon.

An Old Fashioned made from Campfire is a nice twist on a traditional Old Fashioned.

Enjoy!

Trivial Fact

Per a 1964 Congressional Resolution, although ANY state in the US can produce alcohol labelled as "bourbon" only bourbon produced (and stored for at least one year) IN Kentucky can be labelled as "Kentucky Bourbon." To wit:

"To be legally labeled "Kentucky Bourbon," the whiskey must be produced, distilled, and aged in Kentucky for at least one year. It must also meet federal standards: a mash bill of 51% corn, distillation at 160 proof, barreling at125 proof, aging in new charred oak containers, and bottling at 80 proof without added colors or flavors."

Most Kentuckians take their bourbon drinking seriously, especially during Derby festivities (which began this past Saturday with Thunder Over Louisvillethe largest annual fireworks display in North America), as it is the main ingredient in Mint Juleps, which I hate. I personally am not a fan of bourbon and prefer Vodka at it doesn't have as many "congeners" which worsen hangovers.

I collect bourbon.  There are so many delicious bourbons each with its own nuance.  Besides the large producers, the smaller craft bourbons many distilled by MGP in Indiana are also excellent.  Check out Frank August, Cedarbridge (Iowa), Starlight, Rare Character amongst others.  Of course the BTAC collection is excellent but pricey particularly on the secondary market where they are easiest to find.  Shortbarrel is another good craft producer along with Barrel spirits.  Most of the Weller’s are overhyped but I enjoy Weller Full Proof.  EH Tayler Barrel Proof is good and prices are coming down.  The Pappy lineup is overhyped as well.  Michter’s 10 year and 20 year are both incredible.

🤣 well, I’ve reserved it to toast the birth of my grandchildren.  I thought we were done at 2…then along came thing 3 and then thing 4….so I’m giving it a bit just to see if I really need to get the scissors and snip my son in law myself if he’s not connected cause and effect yet 🤣

Mazel tov, as they say in Ireland.  In the grandchildren department more is always better, so don't overreact just because you want that bourbon.  Why not just assume that four all you're getting, drink the bottle and, if thing 5 comes along, you have a perfect excuse to buy another bottle.

I live in the French Quarter.  If you’re in the area, we will lift a glass together
