I completely agree.  I am one of the few adults who has never seen another's genitalia in real life, except when I was in primary swimming lessons and the others in my class changed in front of everyone.  At that age everyone is pretty small.  So my only context has been what you see online, which is not healthy from a self-confidence perspective.  If I need to use a public restroom I will always choose a cubicle over the urinal, unless the restroom is empty and there is no expectation that anyone else will come in.  While this might make it seem like I'm a prude, I'm only a prude with myself - and only because I have this deep held belief that I would never 'measure up' compared to others.  Insecurity, especially insecurity rooted in ignorance, is a real bitch.

I was the same way. My mindset on things now is relatively new. I was a chubby White kid who was prematurely hairy (seriously, I had Scottish 40 year old levels of hair at 16), and an average sized penis (but because I was heavier, I had that "pelvic pouch," you know the flabby area that your penis can "hide" in at times). I ALWAYS had body image issues, so I used to change into my PE uniform in a bathroom stall while everyone else did it in the regular locker room area, and I'd do it so quick (got it to 30 seconds) so I'd be in and out before the bullyish types could see me. At the pool, I'd wear a shirt, with long trunks.

A couple things finally helped me get over that. 1) I got sexually active (maybe I was more promiscuous than I should have been, but that's a different story), and at first I was SO NERVOUS that people would find me unattractive. But suddenly, you find guys who say "you're hairy??? I'm drooling!" Or "dad bods are hot" or "you've got a good dick." I never thought I had an impressive penis, but other guys seem to think I've got a good one. And on the one hand, it ain't good to outsource your body image or self confidence to others. BUT it did help me that guys found me generally attractive rather than running for the hills. 2) I got some rejection. Some guys DID say, politely, "Not my type," and I knew what they meant. Some were less polite. But I didn't die!!! So I didn't fear that rejection as much.

3) I started going to nude places like hot springs. I figured, "Everyone's naked. It's no big deal." I was SUPER uncomfortable at first, but eventually I got used to it, and it got to where I no longer had fear of my body being seen. 
 

Now, I feel much more different about it, and it makes me sad that other people don't feel the same degree of liberation.

I recommend attending a nude beach for the afternoon.  Nothing made me get over body insecurity more than being completely naked in a non-sexualized setting
