What do you collect?

I’ve never been a serious collector. As a kid, I collected bills from other countries, then stamps, magazines, and now plants. But none of my collections have ever been particularly extensive or extraordinary.

I guess my largest collection is what I have now: Ornamental Plants.

I collect vinyl records from different decades. I love the analog sound and the cover art.

Newspapers. If I could do it all over again, I'd take a photo of crickets that were in the process of mating when I dropped a big stack on top of them to permanently shut them up. I mean, the male was gonna be a goner shortly after their encounter anyway....

Broadway cast recordings. It's not so much an intentional collection as something I enjoy listening to and own many of as a result.

Outdated spices. I decided to re-arrange my spice rack/shelf and discovered that about half of my spices had expired. The regular ones like oregano, thyme, etc. get used often. But the others, like coriander, were long past “best if used by date” - thus I must be a spice collector. Who knew?

I “collect” far too much clothing, outdoor gear and boots. And underwear and merino wool athletic socks. I know I have a problem. I was on an art binge for years, but I’ve stopped that obsession. Oh, did I mention carbon road bikes (3) and high-end mountain bikes (3)? I’m going on an acquisition moratorium.

I used to collect those Starbucks city mugs. At first, it was just a couple from cities I’d been to, but then it got out of hand. One day, I looked around my kitchen and realized I had, like, 50 mugs, all stacked up, reminding me of places I could barely remember visiting. Well I have an interesting group of "collections"  for sure.    For one,   I have a large collection of designer underwear.    Probably not that unusual for a gay dude and wear new and different ones for clients when booked.   Also a large collection of "turbo speedos"  from Barcelona Spain.      Beyond that,   I have a large collection of Ralph Lauren polo shirts and another that a family friend started me on when I was in middle school..... Department 56  "Dicken's Village"  collectables.      I also have art by Jesse Barnes and Terry Redlin which I relly like.
