I don't know his whereabouts, but former porn star Marc Williams is an L.A. area trainer these days. Jason Wimberly of the Naked Trainers is another great choice, and yes he can train with clothes on if you prefer.

Choose a woman.

Either male or female works, as long as they're qualified and understand your goals.

A great personal trainer knows a wide variety of ways to get you there (in addition to the right diet).

Also, a good trainer will be realistic with you about what you can achieve.  I absolutely hate trainers who overpromise.

I had a very well muscled personal trainer who always seemed to be going commando in sweat pants.  His impressive endowment was a distraction.  I did not fire him, I merely told him I was breathing heavy from the workout.

I actually disagree with this concept (assuming that the reason is that we are not attracted to women)- in my experience, the teachers I have learned the most from (regardless of subject) have been attractive men… my guess is that this is rooted in a desire to impress/please.

I think there is some truth in the idea of hiring a trainer who looks like what you want to look like. I work with a natural bodybuilder (male) who has gotten me to a place that I doubt a female trainer could have done as easily. Though I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions to that. I've certainly made progress with female trainers in the past but not like I have with this guy.

Perhaps. he is just an exceptional trainer and has nothing to do with his gender.  On the other hand, if you are being diligent about your appointments partly because you want to to spend time with him, the gender could be a factor.  I gues it is the XY factor.
