vague city requests

It used to be when people wanted a good recommendation, some information was given as to what they are looking for, be it body type, race, height, and so on.

I'm seeing lately far too many people just throwing out random cities - big ones - and asking for who the best person is without knowing at all any kind of simple details to be able to offer up some help. 

In the meccas, there really is someone for everyone. In Minot, for example, you may have to settle for whoever is breathing.

I've been part of the forum (in its various incarnations) for more than twenty years. This is nothing new. Some guys describe what they want, and others don't. It varies.

I myself am not an impulse shopper, and I bet I’m in a small minority. But when you’re in a hurry, I guess this place gets confused with Yelp!

As rvwsnd wrote, it's nothing new.  Sometimes people will respond with, "can you give us more of an idea what you are looking for?" and sometimes there are crickets.  It does seem odd to ask for recommendations without offering any detail about what one likes.  It would be like asking a sommelier which wine is the best without giving some indication what you like first.

The flip side of this topic….I wish more posters put a provider’s city/locale in the topic of the post. i.e. “411 on HotOne in SoCal” rather than just “any info about HotOne?”

I agree, and it should be the provider's home city/locale. Listing a provider with a city they visited once in their life is not useful later in time.

Yes, it's always helpful if a poster is more specific about what kind of guy and scene they are looking for.  Do they want twinks in Toledo, or muscle studs in Memphis?  Perhaps they're in the mood for bondage in Boston or watersports in Walla Walla.  Is romance in Reno on the menu, or is it fisting in Fresno?  We can always provide better options with just a little more information.

and yet in NYC we constantly here complaints about the lack of enough service providers.

When an escort advertises as a top "why doesn't he bottom?" or when says that "for this he only bottoms", "why doesn't he top?".
