Dominic Pacifico announced on Twitter that he has terminal kidney disease and he has set up a GoFundMe page to ask for financial help.

He posted the following:

“I have kept this private for some time, as I did not want to alarm anyone until things got serious. Now is the time to share something that I have not told very many people about.

I was diagnosed with kidney failure in June 2023, have been in the hospital 6 times, and finally started daily dialysis in September. Being diagnosed with a terminal disease has caused me to be disabled, and my doctor has ordered me not to work. Since being diagnosed, there have been several complications which have either left me home bound, or hospitalized. As much as I want to show up to work, my body is not able to. I am in need of financial support while I undergo treatment, and wait for a new kidney. Typically finding a kidney could take anywhere from 2-weeks to 2 years, however I have an O+ blood type (which is a rare blood type) so it's hard to say how long it could be.”

That's very unfortunate - dialysis is brutal for a lot of people.  Hopefully a donor is found quickly.  I am a bit confused about the blood type statement, because I thought O-positive was the most common blood type...

Correct.  O+ is the most common blood type.

"38% of the population has O positive blood, making it the most common blood type."

Of course, there’s much more to finding a compatible donor organ than just blood type…..but yes, O+ is the most common.

I wish him well. Dialysis is hell.

I have o+ blood type as well. Funny thing is we can give our organs to any blood type but we can only receive o+ organs. I was listed 2 months ago for a heart transplant. Doctors said 6-9 months was likely but can vary like crazy.

Oh wow - I'm sorry to hear that.  I hope things turn out well for you and that you receive a heart that is compatible.

The issue isn't what is the largest blood type, it is who can be a donor and who can be a receiver.
Setting aside positive and negative blood types .... O is the best "donor" type while AB is the best "receiver" type.
Someone with an O kidney can donate to O, A, B or AB
Someone with an A kidney can receive from an O or A kidney
Someone with a B kidney can receive from an O or B kidney
Someone with an AB kidney can receive from an O, A, B or AB kidney
But, someone with an O kidney can only receive from an O kidney.
So even though O+ is the largest blood type, he has a smaller pool of available donors to find an available kidney from.

Nomadic hits the nail on the head! now i find im producing some sort of antibodies in my system related to the heart and transplants. i went from 0 to a number of 38 in 2 months. my transplant team doctor is doing a telemed with me on tuesday. what i "sort of" understand from the internet prior to our meeting is that the more of these antibodies, the harder a match is.... on top of the other blood type issues. that being said, the harder the match, the quicker one goes up the list IF there is a match for that persons heart. My hunch is he will want to admit me into the hospital as well to get high priority. The problem is it can be a few weeks as long a 8-9 months for that "donor match". i am absolutely not prepared to lay in a hospital bed for 8 months. that in itself would do me in.

This is why i have such a close feeling to Dominic. I truly feel what he is going through.

Never heard of him. My sister died of kidney disease less than a year after receiving a kidney. I wish him well

Wrong medication. Dehydration due to intense sports. Genetics. The list is endless.

True. Genetic predisposition + lifestyle choices + "whatever". It is sad, too, that he devoted himself to the " industry" and its allied "arts" and ended up with nothing to show for his endeavour  in his bank account.
