"ARE YOU INDEPENDENT OR THROUGH AN AGENT"?

So had a client book me recently and while a very positive experience,   he asked a number of questions,  one was  if I was independent or "through an agent or "business manager".   At first I thought it was an odd question and I said I was an independent.    He responded that there are some great managers out there.

I assumed he was really asking me if I had a pimp.     I kind of chuckled.     I assumed that the "business manager"  or pimp mostly applied to women and not men.   The reality is,   I guess I have no idea what's up with this.    Anyone want to fill me in?

There used to be a good number of escort agencies who would manage and send guys out to clients. Most of them are gone or aren’t as open about their existence. You still have guys acting as the managers/handlers/pimps for guys.

Some escorts aren’t great at scheduling and handling certain aspects of the finances. They’re willing to give up sone of their earnings for someone else to answer emails/take calls, schedule appointments, and deal with whatever else the provider can’t or doesn’t want to deal with.

There are even what I call finders. Guys who will put you in contact with guys who otherwise aren’t easily reachable or contactable. However, they only stick around for the initial contact. They take their finders fee and any subsequent meetings between the client and escort are between just those two.

I think managers were more prevalent in the past. Although they definitely still exist.

With the recommendations I've been giving to people who have messaged me on this site, I feel like a bit of a pimp myself recently 😜

So that means I can come to you with all my problems?     jk

I remember when I started looking for providers on RM just 4 years ago, a lot of guys in hindsight had someone managing them. Looking back now, the quality was high, but since the rise of OF some of those same providers have left for greener pastures.

Over the years THE best looking guys didn’t advertise on any of the sites. I’m talking legit fashion models, realty TV or soap stars hard up for money, etc. I’d occasionally get those guys through pimps. Less common now. Perhaps because of social media disintermediation or perhaps because the last one I used was a drug addled crazy person. But he got SUPER hot guys. Like guys who never did porn. Guys from literally the bachelorette and Abercrombie catalogues. But again, the pimp was insane.

A Montreal dude I met with could only speak French, so his English-proficient girlfriend was who I communicated with before the meeting. I assume she was ok with translating all I was asking the dude to do while we did pre-meet planning!  It all went perfectly and he even showed me a picture of his jolie petite amie.

Do you ask while texting if he's the escort or the handler? Many handlers simply don't tell you they're a 3rd person and not the escort.

I know the handlers and they recommend the talent based on what they know I enjoy.  I still do contact providers directly but mostly it’s a service.

I remember as well there was a provider on rentmen who didn't speak English well at all so you were texting with a friend of his instead who handled all the details.

The only time I'm aware of having arranged a meeting through an agent/handler involved a man whose English language skills were minimal.  I didn't know that prior to meeting him because someone else was obviously texting for him.  The appointment went well enough, but I much prefer making arrangements directly with the provider I'm planning to hire.

At least being independent you have the choice of who you see. You can get a slight feel for the client before meeting whereas with a handler you're trusting that to their judgement only.

True but sometimes even clients misrepresent themselves or don't share any information at all. Besides in this age of Google voice and texting apps a person could have multiple identities.

As much as I prefer to make arrangements directly with the provider I understand that sometimes engaging in endless texting takes so much of their day that some just don't have time to do it

A good number (most even?) of the Latin guys based out of Florida are all managed via a "handler".  Most of the escorts have just arrived from Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, etc and speak little to no English.  All the communication is done via their handlers.  You can also see who is being managed by the pictures.  Most are all photo shopped over the same backgrounds, the escorts will often be wearing the same clothes, etc.  Does anyone think some young kid from Caracas can show up in the US, have readily available credit to fly all over the US and stay in hotels for weeks at a time without someone behind the scenes paying for all of this?

Spelling mistake. Spelled Venezuela incorrectly the first time.

That's one of the reasons I prefer to actually have direct communication with the provider.  I have no qualms about someone deciding to do sex work, but once there is someone else making a profit for arranging that work for another person I become concerned about the potential for exploitation.  If I knew the handler/agent was just following the provider's instructions for screening and scheduling, I'd have no concerns.  Since I cannot know that with certainty, it leaves me concerned that the guy could be working under conditions with which he is not entirely comfortable.
