He always liked the tenors, but his favorite comment to me was about the soprano - “Isn’t she dead yet?” Only after his passing in 1984 did I begin to enjoy country music. It’s still not my favorite, but it almost always makes me remember my dad fondly. For what it's worth, sometimes I've found that directness may come across as rudeness in writing, when that may not have been the intention. We had one in Ft Myers, Florida, that I attended and there were probably 4-5 more guys there and one of the local escorts joined us. I remember at first, they thought I was an escort, but I wasn't, one guy told me I should consider it, but I was happy in my career. It was one of those things that just kind of organically developed but soon died out for whatever reason. Events like this might be more successful in 2023. I contacted him and arranged to meet. @foxy, another member & now a close friend, also joined us. I’ve met numerous members from attending the Gaiety and, every Sunday, @ the 20 Club. I once enjoyed @Oliver's hospitality in Palm Springs and about three times met in DC with smaller groups of posters. I even traveled to Mexico DF, and Rio with friends from here. This is a popular forum representative of the broader humankind. I believe people are overwhelmingly good; the paranoid feelings many share about crime are unknown to me. Similarly, most posters here are good, reliable people. Same for some members I’ve not had one-on-one chats with, but enjoy their posts. There are a few former members I have met, that do still enjoy this hobby, so we chat via text and e-mail, and about more than just this hobby. One funny “meeting” from a number of years ago - a friend of a friend was having a party, my friend invited me to come with. Fun crowd, and I wound up chatting at one point with this fellow who similarly was a platonic plus one for his friend, so neither of us really knew anyone at the party. Anyway, we chatted, exchanged some snarky comments and laughs, and flirted in that habitual way gay men do where there’s no real intent behind the flirt. Fast forward, sometime later I replied to a thread on here, and I received a private message from another member “First name, is this you?” Yes the fellow I met at that party was a fellow hobbyist and member. I asked what prompted him to think it was me, he said it was a phrase I used that night that I also used in my post that made him think BBD could be me. So began our friendship. He’s no longer on here, in fact he moved out of the country some years back. He’s loving life, still a hobbyist, and we’ve kept in touch thru the years. I also have a memory of a kind of ad hoc get together in Vegas. This would have been back in the HooBoy days. I was in Vegas for a bachelor party, and had declined to join the boys on yet another visit to the strip club, so in my room at loose ends thinking “hmmm perhaps I’ll see what’s out there”.
