+ DrownedBoy
As a client, I need to ask: If you end up hiring a provider who never had any experiences before, how should you proceed?
Jamie21
Are you asking clients? Because it’s in ‘ask a provider’ 🙂. First time I did an escort session was, looking back on it, hilarious and I’m grateful for the client who was really understanding. I’d agreed to meet him outside house no. 8 in his street. But I misunderstood the instructions and knocked on the door at no. 8 which was actually the house across the street. Obviously he wanted to check me out and didn’t want to give his real door number to me until he saw me. Fortunately no one was home at no.8 Then when I was getting showered before we started I didn’t shut the shower door properly and his bathroom floor got filled with water. He was ok about that saying he should have told me about the door thing. In my excitement at my first client I left home without my wash bag which had my massage oil, lube, condoms etc in. So I had to ask my client if he had any oil and condoms. He opened a bedside drawer and provided all the necessities… Afterwards I forgot to ask him for payment. As I was leaving he said “don’t you want paying Dick?” (Dick was the ridiculous ‘nom de plume’ I’d decided on for my escort career but I soon dropped it because guys would call and say “hi is this Dick” and I’d instinctively say “no it’s Jamie” and they’d say “oh sorry wrong number”). I think he was amused by my puppy like enthusiasm and naivety. He gave me a nice tip but didn’t hire me again. Then, when I got home I realised I’d left a thong I’d worn at his place. I really hope his wife didn’t find it… I’d say if you hire a newbie provider then be like my client and be understanding. He enjoyed my enthusiasm and I’m sure he had a laugh to himself afterwards. If he’d been an arsehole about my faux pax I’d probably not have continued with doing the work. + bashful, Act25, TorontoDrew and 15 others 11 1 1
nate_sf
I'd suggest proceeding as a bit of a mentor. You don't have to be over the top about it, but you can give him some gentle direction. The basics in setting up the appointment, and then during the appointment you may need to take the lead. Also negotiate the fee ahead of time, and if he waivers on that he may need some guidance. A lot of us probably have stories to tell similar to @Jamie21. I remember with my first client at the end of the session he told me I wasn't charging enough. I really didn't know my value, or how to present myself. I've benefited from having lots of good mentors along the way, ranging from clients to other escorts. Early on I hired an escort I was interested in to see how he set things up with the appointment, how he conducted the appointment, but also of course to get our rocks off. And for those who knew @Guy Fawkes, he was never shy about giving advice and relished serving as a mentor. + bashful, Jarrod_Uncut and TorontoDrew 2

That’s brilliant advice. When I started the guy who I knew and trusted who had started in a similar way to me advised me on pricing. Without that advice I’d have priced it much too low. Once you’ve started low it’s very difficult indeed to change. His advice was err on the high side and only reduce if you find that you’re not getting sufficient business. + DynamicUno and nate_sf

I remember being nervious when I hired my crush. He was so muscular and more handsome in person. Omg it was so awkward. TorontoDrew

+ keroscenefire
I like hiring new escorts actually. I agree that a lot of them are often either undercharging or overcharging. I try to gently sort of guide them to the donation that I think is more common in Denver though I always pay whatever they ask. I don’t know whether that’s because it’s new to them or they’re just anxious about meeting a new person in an intimate situation or some other reason. Part of the job is helping them to overcome that and feel comfortable and safe. A few have said they’re excited and nervous to meet me, where they’ve been following me on social media or something. I must say that that’s both extremely flattering and very daunting actually because you kind of hope that you live up to their expectations. I’m preferring it if they say afterwards things like that because it actually makes me anxious to be the person they imagine in their minds. + Vegas_Millennial, socurious and + bashful 1
+ DrownedBoy
@Jamie21 yes, he ended up doing something embarrassing when he got to my place. He was still embarrassed about it at the end of the session, even as I kept reassuring him and promising I would hire him again. The price issue is something I need to talk with him about. At our first meeting, I just rounded up the bills so he was near a newbie's price, but I need to talk with him since everyone's not that honest. The least I can give him is the usual rates I've paid for newbies and regular (for me, that's 250-300 for 1 hours, and 400-500 for 2 hours; he'd be at the low end). If you take gross advantage of a newbie and he later finds out the regular market rates, they will hold a grudge. Nonetheless, remember that these are newbies and aren't at porn-star-status yet. And once again - having a Premium membership is very useful. For the new providers I met, the move from 0 to 1 reviews was the hardest, then quickly became easier. When I first started out there, $150 was a comfortable number. But with the cost to do biz there being higher and the market being flooded, I haven’t been able to go under 200-250. Had a client see me on RM who I previously met from CL. He was like, I want etc etc can you still do 125? I’m like ummm…Last time we met had to been like 2012. It’s been 10 years. I had known a guy who paid dudes on South Beach. I didn’t really know until he seemed to be such good “friends” with a couple super muscled dudes in the area. Then it dawned on me. I also worked on the side for a time before I actually started full scale. However, I felt my first couple experiences on RentBoy were very intimidating, despite me having been 7 months into the game. First client hosted me in a house like a castle, I had never been around such wealth. The 2nd client wanted me to watch me fuck another super hot escort, and I had never done that before. But now: there’s not much I’ve not seen or done so it’s def more an adventure than anything. In Denver it's definitely in the $250-$300 range now. There's a couple that try to go higher than that but I haven't hired them at that level. A few also ask for less. I always appreciate a guy that gives a bit of a discount for a longer session. I had a regular that did a great two-hour session for $450 and I hired him quite often. I had a regular that did a great two-hour session for $450 and I hired him quite often. Ha. Right about the same as me. 250-300 used to be quite hard to get for 1 hr few years ago. However it wasn’t really necessary because one could stay pretty steady at $150. At the same time, that was an exhausting price to have to work at. The type of clients who came by at that rate, weren’t necessarily bad but…seemed more into the last minute thrill versus a planned experienced. They also never wanted to pay more than $150, which would eventually annoy me. $150 is okay when seeing 1-2 clients a day (which is not a sensible way of working over the long run, plus it just doesn’t happen much anyway because the lack of decent public escort sites), but not when it’s the only booking of the week. But I have noticed a lot of former local Denver clients have “dropped out” of the hobby, vanished. I’ve gone back to charging $150 for certain sessions, but I still prefer the $450-500 visits at least a couple times a month. That’s why I can’t go back to having just 1 price. BodeBrentwood
I remember the jitters of feeling unsafe when I first started. Vigilance doesn't go away, but the nerves subside a bit with time and gentle first timers. I also had a buddy or two that would either 1) check on me post session or 2) I could pick the brain of if they were a more experienced provider.
