Massages stopped being something exciting…

I’m getting fed up with massages / masseurs. It’s been a while since I’ve hired someone really good. Good for me is a trained masseur with sensual or erotic elements. Most of the new guys I hire are guys without experience that want to make good money without even putting too much effort. And then some members of this forum rave about them based only on the sensual / erotic elements.

Some of the really good ones around my area moved or stopped offering massage services. At the moment I’ve no desire to keep trying / wasting money on new guys that don’t have a clue of what they are doing.

I think I’ll take a break for a few months and see how things go. Meanwhile I’ll just hire the 2-3 masseurs that are my regulars. But no new ones. I’ll save some money and use it on other experiences. Maybe a cruise? More concerts, theater, fine dining…. Etc.

Does anyone else feel the same?

I started hiring back in late 2017 I think.

I’ve literally thrown in the towel too.  I haven’t hired in over a year.  Same reason, 80% are just glorified escorts under the “masseur” flag.  They do a basic half assed rub then move straight to the tug to end things.  What a waste of time and money.  The good guys have either quit, moved completely into escorting or moved away from Phoenix.

San Diego area

Wow San Diego? I would think your city would have at least a handful of legit, good masseurs. Welcome to the new reality as DC has also been slim pickings for several years now. Hence, I find myself returning to few masseurs that either visit my area or return to ones in other cities that I go to either for work or vacation.

I've had the same experience.  I would say about 10-15% are any good.  It's especially concerning when they list therapeutic massage as an option and have extensive experience with (name them) various massage techniques but when you meet them, it's just a money grab and they try to get you out the door as quickly as possible.  I'm fine if they simply list sensual/erotic and not all the BS about extensive training in India, Thailand, etc.  There is one traveling through the Midwest quite often who claims he offers Nuru massage but in reality it's simply rubbing oil all over you.  The guy doesn't use proper Nuru oil and doesn't have a clue what a real Nuru massage is.

I’m sad reading all these comments. Massage should always be something that one looks forward to as a special treat.
What is it that makes guys hire masseurs who are just seeing you as an ‘easy way of making money’. These masseurs can’t care about their reputation or about getting repeat clients. I’d say there’s clues in their adverts that might indicate there the ‘rub and tug’ type: they’ve not been around long, their pictures are of them topless with 8 pack and muscles, they have bullshit about mystical benefits of massage and sprinkle the word Tantra in their adverts. They’re open to doing the massage on a bed. They want a pic or description of you before they’ll confirm your booking. Those kind of things, especially all of them together, are probably a clue that he’s doing this for a bit of easy cash….because he can.

I don't think I could literally throw in the towel.  At whom would I throw it?  How far?  How hard?  Besides, I usually prefer not to be draped with a towel during a massage, so where would I get one to throw?

I might figuratively throw in the towel, to borrow an old expression, but not literally.  And even then, I would prefer to just take a break or cut back my hiring, to save my money for other priorities until I find a great regular massuer in my area again.

I agree.  There are still some good ones out there and the clues to the not so good or bad ones are sometimes evident in the ads as @Jamie21 described. Sticking with the tried and true who know how to do a good massage is more what I am doing as well.

I couldn't agree more. Between COVID and monkey pox and finances and the lack of qualified masseurs with proper training, this experience is far from what it used to be.

The funny thing is I used to feel emotionally unfulfilled as I crave intimacy, but it was always great going out and getting a nice relaxing massage that would take away the physical stress of the week.

I haven't ventured out for a long time for reasons above. I'm due to get a second monkey pox shot in a few weeks. I'll check out the latest literature on vaccine boosters and then, I think I'll do some research and take a plunge.

If anyone has recommendations in Los Angeles, please send 'em my way !

TIA!

I think u should question their credentials more.  One therapist had every type of massage offer listed.  I said can u do strictly shiatsu.  He replied after long pause not really I try to include a little bit of everything in my massage. Yeah right!  No thanks.  We are responsible for the rising costs.  Just say no

I’m glad these issues are finally being openly discussed here.  I posted other threads about this issue of escorts posing as masseurs.  This has an impact on services, when customers make it easy for a pretty body or pretty face to make a quick buck because they want a cheap escort the rest of us suffer.  Young guys see a fast cash opportunity and flood the market with inexperience.  Please continue the discussion!

I am very thankful we are discussing this because many of us want a genuinely good massage for health, relaxation, connection, and intimacy.  We work hard, negotiate difficult things in our jobs and personal lives, and need a good safe reliable space to unwind and take care of our needs.  We don’t need our massage space to another complicated thing to add stress.  The thing is what we need (and it varies) is out there.  We have experienced it.  But it’s getting more complicated to find it with the added increase in costs and health risks.  The lure of a new young hot body is out there (and we love it of course) but it only goes so far and sometimes not far at all, if anywhere.  We need the deeper more lasting connections that are affordable and reliable.  Again, thank you to all of you and this site that help us navigate. K

I stopped having massages during monkey pox.  I agree that most don’t have training but I like the young men and if they are trying (giving the full hour and are engaged and not distracted), I will usually return for a while.   In a couple cases, I saw their skill improve and developed into someone I wanted to see regularly.

Unfortunately the unskilled can cause much more damage to the body than MONKEYPOX can.
