I’m in the market for a new bed mattress and wondering if anyone has experience with the Sleep Number brand?  I’m enticed by the commercials, but wary of marketing. I’m most comfortable on a firm mattress and not sure if the sleep number mattress is firm due to the flexibility of the various positions?  Any feedback appreciated.

have always thought this might only be good for couples.....and, even then, always wondered if each partner would set their favorite number and never touch the dial again (since they just set their favorite firmness!).....

no expert here at all, but I'd go look at memory foam mattresses, pick out the one you like (firmness), and buy it......

I’ve never had any friends particularly fond of a sleep number mattress.

There are various models which range in price from $1,500 to $4,900 for king size,  I don't know if the higher priced models are more comfortable, but they should be considering the price differential.  My brother and sister-in-law have one of the base models.  I tried it out and wasn't impressed.  It didn't feel comfortable regardless of the setting.  I've slept on mattresses that felt comfortable when first lying down on it, but as the night progressed became less so.  If the Sleep Number bed wasn't comfortable when first trying it, I can't imagine it becoming more comfortable as you spent time on it. Plus, if I'm spending $4,900 on a mattress it better include an overnight session with my favorite RM provider. 😁

I bought a king SN about 10 years ago. And yes, I’ve shared it on numerous occasions with someone. I mostly kept it this long because I paid a gazillion dollars for it. It’s just “okay”  — yes the adjustment is nice, but I can’t tell a 95 from a 35. Customer reviews are as diverse as one can imagine- for every fully satisfied customer there’s one ready to junk it. Buy again? Nope.

I think the putative advantage of the Sleep Number mattress is that it can accommodate the preferences of each couple, with one preferring a firm and another a soft mattress. Unless you're buying this mattress as a couple who have different tastes in mattress firmness, I don't see the point. I would just go to a few mattress stores (I went to 3 when I was buying mattresses for my new house), and just lie down in mattresses to find one you, and your partner if you have one, like. Some mattress stores also have these sensors which purport predicting what kind of a mattress you'd like, but in my mind those are probably just gimmicks. For myself, I bought the 2nd to firmest mattress they had, and I got a somewhat softer one for the main guest bedroom. My step-mother said she couldn't remember when it was that she'd slept so well.

When my beau "Chris" moved in, he remarked that our mattress was firmer than what he was used to. I wondered briefly at that time whether I should have gotten a Sleep Number mattress, but he's been sleeping beautifully on it. He tends to sleep a lot more than I do (he sleeps about 9 hours to my 7.5), and he doesn't wake up either when I go to bed after he's fallen asleep, nor does he wake up while I'm shaving/showering/dressing in the morning. Even my pooch seems to know to keep rather quiet as I'm getting prepared, and he wakes up when he's ready.

I am trying out a friend’s mattress and it’s as hard as a rock. Can barely sleep on it, even with a topper. Want it?

Trying out a friend's? Hard as a rock? Barely sleep? Topper?
Just checking, but are we still talking about mattresses?
Is it getting hot in here?

Yes lol.

I'm probably going to have to buy a new mattress for my main bedroom. It's 10 years old and has seen quite a bit of action in the last two years during the pandemic. A lot of overnights.

It's gotten too soft for me and I wake up with a sore back the next day. I've taken to sleeping in the guestroom where I have a very firm mattress. But now I'm entertaining escorts there so maybe it will give out soon.

In my dreams. I borrowed a mattess for a second room. It’s like sleeping on a bench.

Bless you both, what I wouldn't give to have either of those sleep patterns.

I got an IKEA extra super firm that was marked down from 900 to 200 on line clearance and they ended up paying me after price guarantees. quality built like a Saab.

beware, you can  too firm. i slowly developed back aches from the hardness over months.
