+ MysticMenace Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Champagne? As long as it’s actual Chanpagne, there are many many great labels, so ignore the mass market stuff- hint, unless it’s the Grande Dame, Veuve isn’t very good. Krug will hit the spot. Best memory, buying Champagne from a wine merchant in Paris for New Year’s Eve after discussing options in French. + MysticMenace Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 typically am pretty cheap on most things, but here are some things I splurge on that may be slightly higher price: wagyu beef vacation - I have no qualms splurging on international vacations, those experiences are hard to replicate flights - ever since my first solo vacation travel when I got squeezed by two really heavyset men in a fully-packed British Airways flight en route to Barcelona, I have been getting at least a business class flight when I travel internationally. hotel experience - not too snobby on this, but I have since preferred hotels with dedicated service - like the St. Regis [*]spa mani and pedi - would not want some rundown place to mess with my fingernails and toenails. and I love it when there's an overflow of nice drinks to come with the experience [*]undergarments, like boxer briefs and socks - would not mind spending a bit more on higher quality items to cover my feet and junk + WilliamM and MikeBiDude 2

harlow Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 for me its worth spending the extra money for the air chilled organic chicken they sell at Whole Food. I really can taste the difference when I go cheeper.
alrajee Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I also think some designer labels produce the type of clothing that will last you a long time. I have a Louis Vuitton Keepall that has been traveling with me around the world (well, to five continents) for 12 years now. There's some visible wear in it sure, but I can't imagine a Zara bag lasting as long.
Penn7 Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Genuine qtips as opposed to “cotton swabs”. Neosporin as opposed to any “antibiotic ointment”. Kellogg’s pop tarts over any “toaster pastry”. if ever I lose all my money, these are the products I’ll find a way to afford and won’t ever buy generic. They’ll always be worth the premium price tag. What’s the difference on the Neosporin?

lonely_john Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) I love Absolut vodka and all its flavours. I can tell the difference between Absolut vs. Smirnoff, and other cheap brands. However, when I tried Belvedere and Grey Goose I didn't find anything special about them. I could only find this blind testing video, which didn't feature Belvedere. I was glad to see when he initially put Grey Goose behind Absolut. Edited December 28, 2020 by lonely_john

Guest Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) One should not confuse “expensive” with “overpriced.” Over priced means getting less than you paid for...whether quality, content, etc An example (probably a poor one at that): if you have a ring made of 14k gold, it’s better quality than a ring made of 24k gold...because 24k gold is too soft to be used in rings. But, if you paid the same for a 14k gold ring as you did for the same ring in 24k gold, it was likely “overpriced” since 24k gold is more “expensive” while expensive sheets clearly feel better to the skin, I’ve noticed that the cheap Sears sheets of my childhood lasted forever without even a loose thread...but these expensive sheets I buy today start fraying within a year. Clearly I’m buying “the experience” and not “durability.” Edited December 28, 2020 by BnaC
dcguy20 Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I have had my KitchenAid mixer for over 30 years. I love my Le Creuset pots. I discovered Taft shoes about 2 years ago, and it's the only brand of shoes I had that didn't need breaking in, hence no painful blisters! Beancounter 1
+ Pensant Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Tools, both for house repairs and gardening (especially gardening). Chocolate, for both baking and snacking. Real maple syrup versus maple "flavored" syrup. Same for vanilla. Pure cane sugar is superior to beet sugar for baking. I've also noticed a better result when baking with higher priced flours. It cost a fortune but I've the same Miele vacuum for 15 years. Same for my Kichenaid Professional stand mixer and Wustolf knives (my step father was a meat cutter so I learned how to use a wet stone and honing steel as a kid). Luggage Regarding escorts and masseurs, in general my most memorable sessions have been with providers on the lower end of the fee scale. Definitely with you on the Miele. Also love German and Swiss products, so Hansgrohe, Frank, Jaeger-LeCoultre and On sneakers.
+ Pensant Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Love love Le Creuset and I’m an awful cook too Also Danish Scan pans and Belgian Demeyere. + Reisr30 and mike carey 2

+ poolboy48220 Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I have my mother's old KitchenAid stand mixer, which she got around 1976. Still works like a charm. I'm not sure why she replaced it with a newer model, my youngest sister got that when Mom died. lonely_john and Beancounter 2

+ MysticMenace Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I would like to say mattress, but I can't say that definitively yet - about to order the Tempurpedic Luxe Breeze to replace my 12-year old mattress. Hope it's worth it.
lonely_john Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 I'm not sure why she replaced it with a newer model To give you the "original", and your youngest sister the new one when she died. I still keep, as a relic, a little set of cooking spoons my mom used. CuriousByNature 1
