Why must everyone that shoots a mirror selfie just stare at the phone screen instead the mirror they are using. Not sure why it annoys me so. They aren’t looking us in the eye! Here’s a provider on rm where the bulk of his profile pics are mirror selfies.

Why can’t they look us in the eye (except due to narcissism)?

Any other examples?

This is a pet peeve of mine. It irks me enough to turn me off from someone on a hookup app - especially when NONE of their photos have their eyes and they think they look so good in sunglasses ? The eyes mean a lot in a picture. People say "I want to take a good picture so I look at the screen." Bitch, you can take 10,000 pictures and pick the one that looks good! At LEAST look at the mirror haha

It annoys me just as much as it annoys you. Although I doubt very much that we will be able to change anything. Everyone likes to be photographed in their own way, someone does not like to look at the camera, someone likes to take pictures in a bikini. Each person is unique in his own way and differs from others. The simplest thing we can do is just accept that some people look at us when they take pictures, and some don't. By the way, have you ever encountered a similar problem that over time the quality of the camera on the phone just got worse? It seemed to me that the problem was in the resolution of the photos. So basically I was trying to figure out how to increase photo resolution, but in the end nothing has changed.

so glad you joined the forum, Wendy, and resurrected this thread.....your keen insight is breathtaking!....luv ya!

Some selfies are intended to be “product display”

Some are designed to be an invitation to talk and laugh together.

The former doesn’t necessarily require eye contact.

The latter absolutely does.

It’s a little frightening if the bots have gotten this complex.

And I believe they have.

Sorry for picking up the old topic, it's just that this trend with selfies really annoys me. By the way, in my opinion, writing about each new user that he is a bot is not very nice nycman.

thanks for the note....there have been several spammy "bots" lately here on the forum and yours certainly looked like another one......you joined and very quickly resurrected a 17-month-old thread with a less-than-insightful post on a mundane topic as your first offering.......so you may understand our suspicion....

I think everyone has the right to take the kind of pictures they like. Everyone expresses themselves in different ways. It's not very correct to judge a person for their style of photography. Many photographers also face judgment and criticism from people about their creative work. You must be very strong to withstand unconstructive criticism and comments about your works. I've faced such judgments, but they only made me stronger. As a photographer, I can tell you that it is very difficult to take a perfect picture with a beautiful model, good lighting, the right location. Speaking of locations, I recently started working with www.aperfectspace.com, and now I don't worry about choosing the location for a photoshoot. Anyway, don't listen to people who want to insult you and your creativity.

Phones are really convenient for taking photos and in some ways the norm because of that convenience~

they’re problematic as well in the sense that they don’t really have a timer on there. It’s not like you can just set them down and then set up a timer so you can pose in front of the mirror after setting the camera up so that it’s easier properly. So most people find that they have to hold the phone and positioned it so the camera is capturing their image. To make sure that all of that is happening they look at the phone screen to make sure they’re framed in there properly.

It’s super hard taking ass pics of yourself with a phone in a mirror or even without… Do you have to have a selfie stick and do some crazy contortionist moves especially if you don’t want that weird extended arm in the photo.

What they really suck the most about these photos is the terrible resolution and incredible pixelation that occurs when you tried to enlarge them.

Can’t honestly say I ever thought about it til this moment…I guess that means it hasn’t bothered me.

What does bother me are the extremes: pictures that are clearly such poor quality I want to ask, “Why’d you bother?” and pictures that are so professional or photoshopped that when you meet in person it’s a disappointment.

Have you heard of FOMO? Fear Of Missing Out. My Millennial friends taught me about it. (they are a weird species)

Well, perhaps this is a case of FOMI, Fear Of Missing It. They are afraid of losing the frame if they take their eyes out of the camera.

Yes, I would rather hire guys who take a selfie instead of those who get a photographer to enhance their looks.

I like pictures that look thoughtful, and actually capture a guy‘s personality or at least what he’s selling. Nice pictures go a long way.

Headless torsos and dick pics don’t really do it for me…in fact, that may disinclined me de even look beyond his pictures at what he’s written in his profile, if anything at all.

I have mixed feelings about pictures from exotic locations. On one hand of course it can send a message that he has an appreciation for the same things I do. I love to travel, as well. But at the same time if I see pictures from, say, Europe, the Caribbean, the Rockies, and Africa all in the same ad, it makes me think to myself, “This guy isn’t going to enjoy spending any time with me” because I don’t be that kind of glamorous life. It makes me feel like it’s not even worth my while approaching him because I’m not the caliber client he is looking for. I can only afford one vacation like that per year, at best. Which, very well, could be in fact what he is attempting to do by posting pictures of himself in an array of exotic vacation locations – Preemptively weed out potential clients like myself.
