Rockey Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I’ve been binging Life on Mars. It’s a British detective show from 2006-2007. A detective inspector is in a coma and time travels back to 1973. It’s really interesting to see how different life was just 52 years ago. Good acting and John Simm is really cute.
SirBillybob Posted June 30 Posted June 30 The Bear has deteriorated so much you’d think the first two seasons were actually called The Bull. jackcali 1
Ali Gator Posted July 1 Posted July 1 I think someone here recommended 'MobLand' and I owe you a big thank you! I'm half way through (started a binge yesterday) and it is fantastic. It's a good series to get into, now that 'Godfather of Harlem' has wrapped. One suggestion - use closed captioning with 'MobLand' - the accents are so thick, you may have a difficult time understanding. Enjoy ! MikeBiDude and MikeThomas 1 1

The third season premiered in Israel last December, but Apple TV+ has delayed the international release due to “geopolitical sensitivities” surrounding the show. What a crock! I got weary of that. I like the quiet scenes, like when Sydney was left alone with Donna at the wedding or when Carmy visited Donna and went up to his old bedroom where he found the green sweatshirt. Finally, there were little or no open restaurant with customers scenes, other than some food prep. "Look, I invented a new pastry!" That strategy ignored part of the show's energy. + EVdude Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Any one watching Duster on MAX? Binged it over the weeeknd. Gritty crime thriller set in 1972 Arizona, written and produced by J.J. Abrams. Josh Holloway - aka Sawyer in Abrams’ ABC Lost series - plays Jim Ellis, a talented but troubled getaway driver recruited by Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson), the FBI’s first Black female agent, to take down a violent crime syndicate. High-octane plot that often seems about to jump the shark but it’s a fun ride with a funky soundtrack and retro aesthetic. Also, the opening credits feature Hot Wheels which might be nod to Abrams’ upcoming Hot Wheels live-action film. SirBillybob 1
+ poolboy48220 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I just watched "Lessons in Chemistry" (Apple TV) over two or three days, Brie Larson as a brilliant chemist in the 1950's fighting gender discrimination. I liked it a lot, even though it sometimes felt like a Hallmark movie with super-intelligent leads. SirBillybob 1
+ sync Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I stumbled upon a Star Trek series in Amazon Prime. I wasn't expecting too much as it is set in the years of Capt. Pike who preceded Kirk, Picard, and Janeway. Now I'm hooked, the Enterprise and shuttlecrafts in this series are far more sophisticated than the previous TV series.

I didn't know that was on Amazon Prime, I watch it on Paramount+. I love that show. I recommend Lower Decks on Paramount+ too, animated, set in the time after Next Generation, about one of Starfleet's not-so-cool ships and the lower-ranked crew. Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks did a crossover episode last season which was amazing. The new season of SNW starts this month.

kaboom35 Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I just discovered Animal Kingdom. I'm on Season 3. Love it but Smurf's incestuous tendencies with her sons and grandson is a bit creepy and cringey. If you know you know. lol. SirBillybob 1

Enjoyed it for the most part. Neat how they tied in blue suede shoes with a character playing a supporting actor featured in the series Maude, and then a cameo with that actual actor at current age.

I was disappointed in season 4 also. Not enough about the restaurant. I also thought they gave Tina short shrift with no story lines. There’s supposed to be a season 5. Hope it improves.
Ali Gator Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Just finished Season 2 of 'Poker Face'. To think, I once loved this show with Season 1. Still don't know what to make of Season 2. The guy who plays FBI agent Luca is really cute, though, so I may stick around if there's Season 3.
Ali Gator Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Anyone watching 'The Gilded Age' season 3 ? I'm caught up with it, and so far it's dragging for me.

I am, I'm a sucker for Julian Fellowes. I'm hoping they come through with a cameo with young Cora Levinson, she'd be in her mid-teens? Not dragging for me but I wonder what's going to happen with Gladys & the Duke, given Gladys's flirting with Larry Russell.

The last episode was a prime example of what I found tiring about the whole season, just one big argument/grief-airing behind the restaurant. And the looooong pauses between lines of dialog - I started timing them 😞 I have never warmed up to Richie. First season he was an idiot who thought he knew everything. I never bought his 5-day conversion into a competent intelligent person when he went to work at the other restaurant. MikeThomas 1
