Funny how I remember doing this as a kid every time any bad weather made its way to our area - especially hurricanes. I don’t do it anymore. Not sure why I stopped? I think because we never really needed it except one time. You always want to be able to flush the toilet!!!! ?

So much unnecessary fear. Our Supreme Leader has informed us that this will all blow over as soon as spring’s warmer weather arrives and that should happen very soon.

 

If there were any real threat to us, Supreme Leader’s loyalists, why would he leave more than 700 positions in the CDC and HHS unfilled and cut the agency’s funding 16%, knowing those people don’t do anything?

Yesterday I took disabled friends shopping, because they were worried about the possibility of quarantine. The supermarket mall shopping lots had no disabled parking spots available--in fact, the lots were almost totally full everywhere we went, because of all the people stocking up. My friends bought a month's worth of supplies, and every cubic foot of cargo space in my SUV was packed with food, drugs, hand wipes, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc. I think they are overly cautious, but it is hard to resist the impulse to buy a large package of Kleenex boxes at Sam's Club when everyone around you is grabbing them.

Such a silly enterprise really. Everyone knows the only important, life saving staple needed in an emergency are paper towels. The beloved people of Puerto Rico can attest to this.

I shopped for supplies over the weekend and then again this morning. Zero sense of any panic shopping here. All products still available. I bought Clorox liquid/wipes. Plenty more on the shelves. All food staples were still in ample supply. When I went to the check-out at the store this morning, there was no line at all.

 

I live in a fairly rural area of Michigan right on the border with Canada. We have no cases of Coronavirus yet in Michigan. I'm sure that will change in the next few days...which will likely spark panic buying at the stores.

I bought groceries yesterday and the store was jammed, like the day before a holiday. It was only after I got home and thought about it that I realized it was panic buying.

Went to a nearby CVS over the weekend for few items. Checked the aisle with miniature hand sanitizer. All gone completely empty. At the counter, mentioned to the associate of being sold out. She said two guys came in and bought ALL the sanitizer in stock.

 

I bet serious money these guys plan to resell the hand sanitizer on Amazon or EBay. No doubt they hit other stores and bought every hand sanitizer they could grab.

 

The Pandemic of Fear is going to be very profitable for some people.

I‘ve witnessed worse panic buying in DC at the mere forecast of a snowstorm. Thus far I haven’t seen that level of “pandelirium”.

Have been somewhat absent from the forums and from life; Dad was in the hospital 4 days last week- completely ruined a father son trip we had planned. Life comes at you quick.

 

With that being said....both several clients and escorts alike have asked me my take on this Coronavirus deal. I don’t think it’s in an imminent threat of dying even if you were to connect with someone who had it....but the greater risk at this point *I* believe is for the workers...because they’re traveling at their own expense to cities where they’re expecting schedules that are going to pay out. Realistically....having spoken with tons of those guys....those schedules aren’t paying out and they’re experiencing massive cancellations.

 

For me...despite being a total airline / skymileage loyalty whore....I’m finishing out the limited schedule I have prepaid, and sticking close to home. If they’re at the point they’re debating canceling the Olympics; things aren’t getting better any time soon.

So far, COVID-19 is an issue of confidence, it frightens people and they stop doing things they had planned. There is a real risk, but not a serious threat to most people. Some people may stop hiring but many will not, but the 'some' will make things difficult for working guys. TB, I'll have a bottle of red on hand whenever you're around.

If the N95 masks aren't helpful at all, why would it benefit health care workers to wear them? While I don't want to wear a mask every single day, I would have liked to wear one on the plane (see below) if I decided to go on my trip.

Personally, I am on the fence about cancelling my upcoming trip to Las Vegas. Vegas is a very transient town (visitors from all over with an abundance from areas hit hard) and there are usually big crowds and people packed together.

Masks probably have some ability to limit the spread from people who have it, but probably won't help the uninfected if they wear it in terms of preventing getting it. At best, it may serve as a reminder not to touch one's face, although it could prompt people to touch their faces more often. Colds are usually spread by droplets from the infected's hands or when the infected cough. These go on other surfaces which the uninfected touch and transmit to themselves when they touch said surface (keyboard, elevator buttons, hand rails, telephone buttons) and then their faces. It's not really spread in the air, like tuberculosis (or whooping cough).

Health care workers actually need to use them because they are more likely to become infected from their interactions with the ill, but be asymptomatic themselves while they are caring for--and passing on the illness--to others.

Plenty of both on eBay. The better masks are the N95 with an exhale valve. On eBay the 3M ones are $15 each shipped and the HDX (Home Depot) brand ones are $10. Same masks without exhale valves are half as much. CV rarely carries through the air though like other viruses do. EcoLab hand sanitizer (the pro stuff) is 12 or 16 oz for about $10 shipped. Getting small bottles to transfer and carry in your pocket is important. Most places still have rubbing alcohol and that's the real germ killer ingredient. Put it in small pocket bottles. Use hand cream after to moisturize your hands.
