Anybody looking for some elusive, well-fitting underwear? A pair that your cleaning woman knows how to wash and that can be hung on the terrace to dry?

Yup, it was another legendary thread.

Like other esteemed pioneers, my date of record is Dec. 31, 1969 as well. Going on 50 years. Escort years, I guess. Where 50 is the new 28, or whatever the peak and perfect age may be. What a thrilling ride! Thanks to Hooboy! Thanks to Daddy! Thanks to all!

Rockhard’s Dilemma. It sounds like one of those unsolvable mathematical and/or philosophical problems for which some long-departed benefactor created a trust to award the prize when it is ever solved.

Just checked my profile. It says I started 23 Aug 05. However, I believe that is when Daddy took over after HooBoy. I remember interacting with HooBoy before his death. He actually took me to the woodshed a couple of times for some of my controversial / inappropriate posts. Thanks goodness I've calmed down since them (or at least drink less while on-line).

The day I put on a frock will be the day that I have a cleaning woman.

I miss the days of FFF and Steven Draker. Sometimes this place can be a little too sterile. It's not my place, though--not my playbox.

My join date is 2004. For some reason I think I may actually have joined a year or two before that. But maybe not. I def remember the announcement when HB passed. I think I was living in Corpus Christi at the time.

Did you actually join, or just lurk for awhile before joining, as many people did in the early days? HB passed in 2005.

I think I remember lurking for a while. I was afraid to actually join.

Because of some quirk in the program, all of us who were active in the very early days of the old Hooboy site are shown as having joined on December 31, 1969 (we were given an explanation once, which I have forgotten). No, the Internet did not exist in its present form then. The personal computer hadn't even been invented yet. And although I had already been sexually active for a decade by then, I still had never seen an ad for an escort, much less hired one.

Or in ANY form unless you count the printing press.

While I would agree that the internet in it's present form did not exist at the end of 1969, I think this article shows that the basic principles of the internet (packet switching) *were operational* in the interconnection of computers at UCLA (in los angeles), Stanford in (palo alto, CA), SRI (in nearby menlo park) and a fourth computer at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City):

https://www.internetsociety.org/internet/history-internet/brief-history-internet/#f5

I quote:

"Thus, by the end of 1969, four host computers were connected together into the initial ARPANET, and the budding Internet was off the ground."

what was your name there?
The same liubit. That is when I picked the (silly) name, and I’ve kept it here ever since.

The Atkol forums were great fun! Did you participate there, @samhexum?

You beat me to it! I applaud you!

Not the subject of confusion in this topic, but I am always amused when regular people say 'the internet' when they mean the world wide web. I only correct them if it's relevant.

Yes, same name. And am one of about 10 still participating to a forum set up by rlyons as Atkol was dying that not many people found their way to.

Joined nine years ago. Around the time the forum site migrated, my father died and mom has had extended health issues. So I completely fell out the habit.

It's been to come back in past 24 hours and reread some of my own threads. In some cases, I had completely forgotten about the people/experiences in brought up. In some cases, it spurred memories. In others, I still don't recall what I was writing about!
