I am in Zurich at the end of August for a couple of weeks so any visitor reports, comments, recommendations most welcome. My first overseas trip for a couple of years (for obvious reasons) so I am determined it will be a success. After Zurich off to London.

I highly recommend DK Eyewitness Travel for Switzerland and it’s avail online, eg iBooks, if not hard print (I have both).

You can easily do Basel, Lucerne, and St Gallen separately on same day regional train trips return. Each of these is ridiculously walkable once there, as is Zürich for the most part.

Both the main central station and the airport station are part of the regional rail network and, beyond machine sales, have helpful real-person wicket agents that double as tourism guides. The airport regional train counter also helped me figure out city tram passes for 2 consecutive 6-day periods (due to my location requiring daily tram usage). I bought a tailored fare package that included airport train fare both ways and 12 days of tram. I did not subsequently need to fiddle at all with any fare machines taking credit cards. You machine-stamp the light-cardboard tram card first thing each day you use it (if you buy a multiple-day fare). I never encountered a tram attendant checking it. In contrast, all regional train tickets were checked and punched by a roaming attendant.

I typically don’t bother using integrated travel/venue cards for Zürich. I had already previously seen most pay establishments.

The main station similarly has a large integrated tourism and train ticket sale room in the central hall. It is popular and busy; you may have to wait about 15 minutes after pulling a queue number ticket, but purchasing and orienting then goes fast. Trains anywhere are extremely regular, once or twice per hour.

The main art museums in Zürich and Basel are stellar. The toy museum in Basel is fun. St Gallen has a famous Abbey and quaint centre, all UNESCO World Heritage. I found the Rosengarten art museum in Lucerne as worthwhile and interesting as that city’s main Kuntsmuseum adjacent to the train station.

If you do a lake boat cruise and were to choose between Lucerne and Zürich I would opt for Lucerne for greater mountain-surround, although you would be extending your day visit.

Take seriously the advice to arrive at the airport 4 hours ahead, unless perhaps you have queue priority. My international gates both ways also required considerable walking and a high-speed train shuttle. Mind you, I was flying Swiss; that might render check-in volume greater. I estimate the line-up on a weekday late morning was 90 minutes for many. With 4 hours I had time for a brief lunch and about 30 minutes to spare from initial boarding call.

Hope you have a great holiday. There is probably little else you don’t already know or can’t figure out, but feel free to ask.

I’m shocked the prices are so low. Tricks for 100 CHF?

. There are a few places in the world where i feel absolutely dirt poor and impoverished every time I visit  . Zurich is such a place , probably because so many people are so wealthy ( and I’m a New Yorker, that usually doesn’t phase me ) but the Swiss take it to another level .

If the prices are correct it might be the best deal in Switzerland besides a bar of milka chocolate

After deep reflection i am heading to Zurich for a 3 days trip. it seems like Paragonya has limited hours. But i will take one for the team.

after a week in Barcelona, i am ready to leave this city behind. Like that old say, if you dont have anything good to say. is better to stay quiet, but i know i wont be coming back to Barcelona anytime soon.

if it wasn't for Thermas i would have shortened my BCN trip and move on to better pastures: Zurich/ Vienna Amsterdam.

According to Paragonya's Facebook page, they are remodeling their entire facility.  It appears a bar and lounge has been re-done and is open, but everything else may be closed until January.

Once I am back to the US I will start a thread only for Zurich.
what an amazing time.
Guys, if you can come over, there are so many boys. Wow. I had to be in Red Bull diet. I didn’t know how to choose there were so many to choose from; Easter Europeans, from Brazil, and some Latin but I am sucker for Easter boy’s- literally- lol.

Just curious why you do not check for your flight on-line.  This would avoid at least the long line for check in.

On the other hand, the security is sometimes slow.

You said you used Swiss for your flight.  They definitely have on-line check in.

Try it, you might like it.

Yeah I know it’s an option for Air Canada my usual carrier but I find some other carriers required counter check-in particularly in pandemic times. I typically use online if permitted. And I was in Premium Econ but no queue privileges. I cannot remember all the factors posing impediments. Shifting sands for testing and for vaxx proof. But hundreds of others flying Swiss had not taken the web check-in option either, judging by the vast queues of youngish digital age skilled passengers, many anxious about the long delays and pushed to the front by staff for desk check-in depending on risks of missing boarding. I cannot recall if I had a bag to check but there was no baggage drop-off station and no user kiosk screens for printing tickets or baggage stickers, such as exist in Montreal. I was asked by the counter CSR in Zürich to produce proof of COVID related documents other than the ArriveCAN receipt but I had to school him because the Canada requirements  had lessened and he had not ‘received the memo’ so to speak. Generally a shit show when travel resumed last Spring. That was then and my advice was given in that experiential context. YMMV.

Construction update: 2nd floor Lounge is open Thursdays-Sundays, but 1st floor spa/wellness area is still closed for renovation with anticipated opening in March 2023. (From their Facebook page).

I was there last summer and someone was driving around in a gold-plated porsche, lol.

Zurich can be insanely wealthy, but as a visitor, I managed to stay at Sorel Rutli for a decent price, which was a three minute walk to Paragonya, and kept expenses down by eating street food around Paragonya, which is still expensive but not as bad as sitting down in a restaurant, having the complimentary breakfast in the hotel, and taking public transport, which was extremely reliable and accessible. The zoo, museums and parks were all free or very inexpensive.

I second that.

The sticker shock is always astounding in Zurich and I'm accustomed to crazy NYC prices too

Very strange the "service rates" are so low in comparison to a bad plate of schnitzel.

Hey all! So I am just leaving Zurich, and I had a great time in Paragonya for three days.

The soft opening seemed pretty successful. I was there three weekdays, and there were no shortages of rentboys or clients.

The renovation itself was fantastic, albeit unnecessary imo. When I visited a year ago, the style may have been aging slightly, but everything was immaculate. That hasn’t changed. It’s got a moodier and trendy vibe with a focus mor on the wellness, with added cold shower dunks, a cold tub and foot soaks. The steam room and jacuzzi swapped places, and the steam room is smaller but much nicer. There’s no longer a maze inside. The sauna is now all-wood with that weird rock formation gone. It now has starlights and an entire glass paned wall. The jacuzzi is now at the end, and my recommendation is when you first go there, make a b-line to it, sit facing the hallway and observe all the people coming through: you’re less likely to be immediately disturbed and you get to do some uninterrupted shopping.

Upstairs is untouched, lockers and restrooms are the same, and the lounge are basically got a facelift with chairs and loungers instead of sofas.

Staff is as perfect as ever. I was a little surprised on how many really good looking 50-something clients were present and were crushing among each other instead of the rentboys. That was pleasant to observe.

Escorts leaned a little more twinkish than when I was there 10 months ago, but the variety was still solid and the quality hasn’t changed. With the exception of a couple Romanians that make me weary based on their slight aggressiveness and the consensus here (one guy actually tried to charge 200chf, lol), the guys were very honest and charged around 100-120chf.

If I had any complaints, it would be that the jacuzzi was not warm enough and the tile on the floor around it wasn’t nonslip like the steps, so be a little careful.

Extremely successful update, and I strongly recommend people pay it a visit.

For how long? 30 minutes? Thanks for the update! I'm going to be in Zürich next weekend and I've been thinking of going but I feel like it's above my budget hahaha 😅 the entry price alone is double of that of saunas in other cities

Wow. . Thanks for the report.  It came in handy during my insomnia  😝

The staff was /is  A+  Like the Sri Lanka manager.  he was so attentive and accommodating . Can’t wait to go back, tempted to go there instead of Prague in my upcoming Barcelona trip.

And upstairs 😍 the memories 🤪🤪🤪  I went crazy 😜 so I have the boys  lining up taking turns with me, as I mentioned in another thread , I was able to get  some extra cash from the bar staff, using my cc

I'm not sure his phone number but the agent in Zurich has immediate contact with many of the newly available guys, at least Czechs. His number is often the one on several of the better-known Czech stars' ads and his English is fluent. The guys who work through him rarely handle any arrangements themselves because it's so time-consuming and they lose more than his 30% commission (good to know for repeats directly with the guy). Unfortunately, some ads are his alone in a bait-and-switch. But he's a "st8" former Bel Ami guy who quickly sets up meetings with the hardest to get hold of.  Also, many Czech guys "park" their ad location in Zurich even though they are at home in Czech.

Is this agent at Paragonya Sauna?
