I once had lunch with "Lance" who was David. I was staying at a hotel in SF and he asked me if I had a hairbrush. When I said yes he asked me if he could borrow it. Then he asked me if I want to have lunch. Our check came to $9. He gave me a $10 bill and asked how much change he gets if he wants to pay $5. When we passed a bookstore, he pointed out a book in the window where he was on the cover. Yet he seemed like a very lost soul.

I'm not sure I would consider Josh Weston legendary but damn he was an awfully cute and a nice guy. I met him in San Francisco when he was "dancing" at the Nob Hill before he did his first porn shoot for Falcon. He was ex-navy and actually quite shy. We had dinner at a local steak house and I really had to force him to order a nice steak because he was concerned about the prices. Unfortunately he was one of the good guys that got consumed by the porn lifestyle.

Jeff Stryker, Brent Corrigan and possibly Coby Taylor.

One more thing... it takes more than popularity to think someone is legendary, as much as I love the guys from Bel Ami, CF and SC, it takes some fame outside the gay world to be able to be in such a list.

Zak Spears.....I think almost every guy who ends up having a wiki page cuz of his work in the industry maybe qualifies as legendary.....

anyway for myself, Zak = 1 of my early attractions

I think ‘Legendary’ must go beyond the personal infatuation of “the first” or “my favorite”

I think a legend must have some longevity.

I think their work on camera should display consistently what it is that the camera loves, not relying specific angles and lighting.

I think a legend must have somehow made a difference in the art form.

Only a couple of people above called out my choice: AL PARKER

Longevity: He started by doing silent loops in the 1970’s, ushered in the full-length 35mm theatrical features with story, good pairings, and interesting locations. Started his own production company Surge Studios, and did writing and directing in addition to performing. All of his work made it to DVD format, and much of it remains available to buy or rent online.

Assets: Parker was neither tall nor a muscle god, but had a well proportioned body that looked athletic, was not shaved, and was naturally tanned. He was versatile in almost everything and had a fun voracious streak. He had a bigger-than-avg cock that looked huge, veiny and great both soft and hard, and could deliver a serious pounding well before viagra arrived. But, he truly had one thing the camera loved most - his skin. it sort of glowed with health, from head to toe, and having seen him once in person it took my breath away. He had classically handsome facial features, and looked great in all iterations of haircuts and facial hair.

Made a Difference: He used a lot of foggy dreamlike sequences that could give an odd star (Scott Taylor e.g.) a showcase, or and endless bounty of anonymous cocks, sometimes having the main action be part of a show for a live audience, etc. He used narratives around relationships, around anonymous hookups, and at a time when 80’s surfer twinks were everywhere else he was casting average looking hot men with natural body hair who were always engaged during the scenes. Surge may have been the first to use vacuum pumping in a scene, and his last video even featured his own cock after surgical restoration of his foreskin. He was also liked and well regarded by peers, and was so comfortable with all aspects of his sexuality that he made it all a joy to continue watching even after I came (twice!!) Make a effort to find his stuff - maybe you’ll see what was special.

If it takes fame outside the gay world to be a gay porn legend, then I'm not sure there has been a legendary gay porn star. Maybe Jack Wrangler became well enough known due to his marriage to Margaret Whiting and occasional work in mainstream entertainment (he was well enough known to have a posthumous documentary made about him), but I cannot think of anyone else from porn whose name would be recognizable to anyone outside the gay male community. Even someone like Brent Corrigan who gained added name recognition when it was revealed that his first films were made pursuant to a fake driver's license is likely unknown to anyone who doesn't watch gay porn. I don't think mainstream audiences checked out King Cobra. ?

I remember that vid he made we someone that was sort of a private casting video well before there was OnlyFans and its iterations. He was filming he and this other guy fucking. The other guy was hot also and it seems like he was being taught how to be filmed. Can't remember the name of the film but Al Parker was really a presence.

All the Colt 80's bobybuilders that btm, showing the world that there were real men out there, and not just tragic frailed egos "too.hot.to.btm" strykerites

Rick Wolfmier

Ledermeister

Etc...

Killer Joe and Butch Barnes.. I remember being 16 in a porn theatre in NYC and practically faint when I saw that it was possible for muscle men to fuck one another.. changed my life

Jeezifonly offers a reasonable, if not definitive, criteria for distinguishing legendary from favorite. By that formula Jeff Stryker qualifies. He was often the only gay porn model whose pictures were featured in video stores that had an "Adult" section in back, a portion of which contained gay videos. His picture was on naughty greeting cards marketed widely. I used to marvel at the # of straight friends who were familiar with his endowment. In those days they didn't stumble across it on the internet.

His sales and personal appearance crowds dwarfed all others.
