  1. It might be helpful to have a forum channel specifically for members who are interested in meeting up. You could then start a thread for your city or region of the country and keep everyone updated on scheduled get-togethers that way.

Not sure if that's something management would be interested in supporting.

Folks interested in the DC and Palm Springs meetups (and the NYC meetup back in the day) would just post a new thread in The Lounge when there was sufficient built up interest.

  2. Regarding the strip clubs, I would like to be optimistic and assume everything will go back to normal once the border is re-opened and we achieve herd immunity in the states and in Quebec. I wonder how realistic that is.

The clubs won't be the same if we just get to enter, have drinks delivered to the table, stay six feet apart from each other, and watch the stage shows with the dancers all kept at a distance. ?

    Thoughts?

  3. Anybody remember an anti-marijuana PSA, showing 2 guys sitting in the front seat of a car, smoking?

After they glance at each other, they start making out.

I thought I could find it, but can't.

Loved that ad! :) It was a spoof, by the way, and not really intended to be anti-smoking or anti-gay. That line at the end about aren't you guys brothers was later added to the original ad just for kicks.

    Here it is:

  4. Follow up on drug coverage here’s what my costs will be, not SO bad for a year. Painful for a few months. Truvada plus one generic daily blood pressure med. Hopefully some future generic help?

Just curious, is the bulk of that monthly charge attributed to the cost of Truvada? I wouldn't think generic bp meds would be especially expensive

  5. I bought the Breville version of the Instant Pot, used it twice, then gave it to Goodwill during one of my many clutter purges.

For me, it was too big and far too messy and smelly to be something I wanted to have around.

  6. I have a tiny place, so I have very little room for anything. So, I have learned to be ruthless when deciding whether to get rid of something.

Whenever I bring something new into the condo, I make the decision right then and there what I'm going to get rid of to make room for it; It's become such a habit that it doesn't really even take much mental energy.

My guiding principle is: if I haven't used it in over a year, then clearly I don't need it and out it goes. I have a box set aside for stuff that I'm getting rid of, and that box gets emptied as soon as it full by giving it away to neighbors, or by dropping it off at Goodwill; they literally have taken everything I've offered.

I realize that's just me, and most people wouldn't be able to do it. I just mention it here to give you another way to think about things.

With respect to your move, I would paraphrase that and say, if you haven't used it or enjoyed it recently, consider seriously whether you want to invest the money and effort to move it to your new place only to have it sit unused for countless years longer.

  7. @Hoover42, I’ve not heard of border confiscation...where is this happening?

US Customs and Border Patrol search thousands of phones and laptops every year of travelers entering the US, whether or not they are US citizens. See:

CBP Releases Updated Border Search of Electronic Device Directive and FY17 Statistics

    and

    EFF Article on Border Searches

If you refuse to unlock the device they can confiscate it with vague promises that it will be returned to you once they're done with it. There are plenty of horror stories about US Citizens being detained for hours at the border and having their phones and laptops confiscated if they refuse to allow a search. They have tools that can unlock many devices depending on the model, version of the OS, and password strength.

  8. ... Can photos as well as texts be deleted from one's smartphone? apts? ...

I've used both Android and iOS phones, and in every case I've been able to delete photos and text messages at any time. Similarly, calendar appointments can also be deleted from the phone at any time.

Data kept on modern smartphones is encrypted these days and, if protected by a sufficiently complex password, is very difficult for a non-state actor to access.

Note that in some cases, photos, texts, and appointments are stored remotely in servers using services provided by the phone provider. For example using iCloud service offered by Apple. However, if you're concerned, you can avoid or disable these services and keep everything locally on the phone.

One other cautionary note, don't count on good phone hygiene to protect your data if you travel across the border. Agents there can and sometimes do confiscate phones without explanation, and they can compel you to unlock your phone or reveal your password.

  9. As far as the question of Montreal clubs goes, add to this that a vast majority of Québecois, more so Francophones than Anglophones, are resistant or tentative about COVID vaccination ... only about 25% reporting interest and intent in potential early inoculation rollout.

Would you say this is due to a general anti-vaccine sentiment, something specific to the C19 vaccine itself, or something entirely different?

  10. Keeping it in one of the sexy parallel universes, I would like:

    1. To be able to look at someone and know what, if anything, I could say to make them instantly horny for me

    2. Total control over the timing and intensity of my own erection and orgasm

    3. To be able to cure any sexual health issue by hugging someone
