Agreed. When I was younger, I bought furniture, appliances, and paintings on 0% interest credit cards. I had the cash in my savings account, but thought I would beat the system by earning interest on the money while the debt was at 0%. Never again. It gave me a false sense of security, and caused me to eventually overspend my liquid savings down to nothing. If I had to pay cash for those purchases, I probably would have bought fewer paintings and wouldn't even miss them today

Dave Ramsey, a radio talkshow financial "expert", says 1) never borrow money for anything with a motor, and 2) don't consider buying a factory-new car until your net worth is at least $1M US.
Suze Orman, another famous TV financial "expert", says not to finance a car for a period longer than 3 years.

So, it sounds like you want to buy a factory-new luxury vehicle. If you can pay cash and not even notice the change in your investments (example, less than 10%) then buy it! If it would cause you financial stress in the event it is damaged or stolen, then don't buy it.

Just like you shouldn't have a 5-year payment plan to finance a weekend vacation or a fancy dinner out, don't finance this toy. Pay cash and enjoy it. If you can't pay cash, you won't be enjoying it very long before regret sets in

I miss 7 digit telephone numbers with named exchanges...like PEnnsylvania 6-5000....or MUrrayhill 7-7500. They were a lot more fun.

Phones with no dials - had to give the operator the number.
    Phone party lines.
Getting our first TV - black & white, and we only received 4 channels.
    "I like Ike!"
    Hula Hoops.
Having to wear a suit and tie if we went to the city.

Carrying a dime or two for the payphone (and remembering phone numbers).

Dialing "0" to speak to a live person - Operator for information.

Being able to "floating" a check for two or three days before payday. (Banks were closed on Wednesdays- no ATM's)

The only size of batteries were the big square 6V, C and D sizes - dry cell, no alkaline.

    Transistor radios (AM and FM).

To plan an airline trip, there was a thick paper book, like a phone book, that was printed twice a year. It contained all of the airlines, flight numbers, arr/dept times and cities. You looked up here you wanted to go, wrote down all the flight numbers, then called the travel people to book the tickets.

A dedicated island of full service pumps at the gas stations.

Motor oil was packaged in round cardboard cans with metal lids. You needed a steel oil spout to pierce - open the top of the can to pour in out.

If you have status and a great corp code with a big rental co. (like National) and a friendly (ie-tippable) big location, renting as needed can also be fun. For 2 years I got mostly BMW 420 convertibles almost every week in warm weather from National for about $150/wk. New clean maintained one every week. Like a kid in a candy store picking out the lux car for the week. Some have under 100 miles. If you travel a lot even better.

Not me. I never found either of my parents attractive.

I previously theorized that if my mother wasn't such a nasty person, that maybe I could be attracted to women. My dad only stayed with her because, according to him, "men are like lenolium. If laid right, you can walk over them for 30 years".

And of course my mom freaked out when she found out I was gay. "You're just like your father. You'd have sex with anything". Duh, mom

A friend who is a (super)extrovert prefers to travel alone because she meets more people that way. When she's traveled with a companion, she naturally tends to spend most of the time with that person and consequently gets to know far fewer fellow travelers & locals.

That's a problem with bondage - the learning curve. My husband and I went to a workshop in it once. He was a huge hit - a tall handsome cornfed Dutchman. Everybody wanted to practice on him. I got a little jealous and had to remind myself to let him enjoy the spotlight.
