    No regrets here!
In 2020, I made an "Emergency Withdrawal" (allowed in 2020 for anyone who had proof of a COVID diagnosis that year) and drained my traditional IRA in order to cash flow my maximum contributions to my Roth IRA and Roth 401k for a few years.  Because of the "Emergency Withdrawal" legislation, I avoided the 10% penalty and was able to spread the withdrawal income out over 3 years on reported income taxes.  I'm so happy I did that!  It's better for me to have the taxes out of the way and for all that money to grow tax-free for the next few decades.

@redbottle, I am sorry you went through this situation. I have not read thoroughly the thread, so I apologize if I am repeating what other posters said, but if you are someone who has something to lose you should never meet for the first time an online hookup, from any platform, at your place.
As I also like very young men, and I used to live in DC when I was using Grindr, I would always set a first date at a known bar, where I knew that they cared about their liquor license and therefore would ask for ID to every single customer. This safety measure is not infalible of course, but it would significantly reduce the risk of ending in an underage situation.
I do not know if someone else shared that advice. I do know many shared this one, and I will repeat it again: YOU SHOULD NEVER PAY IN ADVANCE to someone you never met before. The few times I sent a deposit or paid in advance was to a regular, someone I knew and trusted.
Good luck in future hook ups. If you are not a hopeless dummy, you are wiser now.

I had a great time with him.  We should all be so lucky.  He hot, handsome, has a more-than-enviable “wiener”, AND is clever, intelligent, and kind.  Just be clear what you want him to do and he will not disappoint- except that we can’t all be him.

Yeah, now I know. But again I guess this is where straight and gay norms differ since straight women escorts apparently always demand payment upfront.

Of course the tax laws can change dramatically, but the RMDs associated with my IRA will occur at a time when I'll be earning a pension from my job plus Social Security.  I've known people whose retirement income was higher than the salary during their working years.  Looking at the figures, it's better for me to pay $10k in taxes now with the Roth conversion rather than $20k in taxes in 2040.  Also, hoping that I make good investment decisions, the 2040 balance on my Roth IRA will be much higher than my IRA balance now, so I'm happy to see that future investment income as tax free

All that is true but each phase has its own challenges and benefits. I have a few decades (mid 70s) on you and what I value the most now is being unburdened by most of the things that concerned me when I was younger - jobs, appearance, family etc. Ageing offers a perspective that I didn’t imagine when I was younger. Enough people still find me reasonably attractive enough. I enjoy good health with necessary equipment still in working order, so I’m still in the game. I don’t envy the lifestyle of most 20 - 35 year olds and don’t regret that I can’t do some of the things that I did when I was their age. Life for me is very good right now but I know that the quality of life that I’m enjoying is probably only good for a few more years. I’ll deal with that when I get there.

Did I hear him right? I must have missed the point he was making about how unfair it was that a 20 yo doesn't want to fuck you anymore.

Most guys are ageist, until they get old. lol.
once they are on the receiving end of ageism, they are suddenly insulted and appalled. 😂

The older men complaining now are more than likely guilty of the same offense when they were younger. Because if they had been less attractive they'd have been gettimg ignored all along and this wouldn't be such a surprise to them now. "A lot of men are visually stimulated, ageist, and shallow! And water is wet, news at 11."

When I was young in the 1950s, American men could be persecuted for even being perceived as homosexuals, which is why I never even heard the term "gay" until the first time I had sex with another male in 1960. In the early 1960s I knew a somewhat effeminate young man who had been arrested in a suburban area because the police thought he was cruising (he claimed he wasn't, but he was convicted anyway). Now I can be open about my sexual orientation in a public meeting, can watch openly gay men on TV, and can be legally married to another man. That's my idea of progress.

I love what the great lesbian professor Camille Paglia has to say about gay men. That we appreciate youth and beauty because they are so fragile and temporary.
Women think it's primarily how they look but as males, we innately know, and can subconsciously smell that they're older, infertile/or not young enough anymore for getting pregnant and bringing babies to term, and unless they're a widow they might be a little cookoo too if they're so old and single. Ouch! It is what it is. This is millions of years of evolution. We are never going to change.

To be fair, I think that’s true just in life in general of both sexes and orientations, but mainly with women and gay men. Women face ageism actually more than men. There is so much pressure for women to look young, beautiful, skinny, or curvy, get facelifts, plastic surgery, botox, and fillers. Not to stereotype, but Gay men generally are more body and looks conscious than Straight men. The straights don’t seem to care about their looks as they age, as it’s not seen as masculine or manly. Again, I don’t mean to stereotype, just making generalizations.
