I agree @Trebor. It’s just my view but I’m fed up with self-proclaimed str8 guys like Nick Sandell trying to make money off gay men. I used to think Nick S was inching his way out of the closet. Yes @Pensant. I always describe SA as a small, multiracial first world country surrounded by a much larger, mainly black, third world country. Violent crime is a serious problem. The great beauty of the Western Cape tends to lead visitors to think of it as a paradise...but when home invasions or burglaries occur, it’s unusual to leave witnesses unharmed.

The cause of this is alleged to be an “unattended vagrant fire”as various homeless people live on the slopes of Table Mountain and the other mountains that run on from it. This fire is unusual in that I can’t recall anything other than small blazes in these particular areas in previous years. It’s not clear whether the automated anti-fire shutters (to protect the most important part of the historical archives) did close in time. I am surprised there was no coordinated effort to rescue items before the fire took hold. They did organise vehicles etc to take 4000 students from other buildings on the campus. And if you’re a keen gardener, like me, bear in mind that the great botanical garden Kirstenbosch holds a much larger archive of plant materials in a separate research building.

Prague is a beautiful city and well worth visiting. @tassojunior has given you excellent advice @Caliboy95. But if your prime purpose in visiting is to meet attractive guys, be aware that Prague is NOT what it was years ago. The weather in January can be grim (with snow, daytime temperatures around 4C etc). The weather in Spring and early Summer can be lovely but it also means hordes of visitors (mainly German)...who may be competing with you for the limited number of working guys. The guys earn more money abroad so they are keen travellers.

We just watched “Palm Springs”, a movie starring and produced by Andy Samberg. It was funny and stylish. Only 90 minutes long. It uses that Groundhog Day/time-loop idea very well and it has a satisfying resolution. We saw it on Amazon Prime but it’s also billed as a Hulu Original.
