I sat through a live HD cinema telecast of Wagner’s Parsifal- 2 intermissions that were 40m ea for the onstage scene changes - lots of backstage interviews and watching of the process, plus time to pee… Which was good because it started at 9am PT and ended at 3pm. 2 1/2 hours for a movie I can do, provided I stop liquid intake from 30 min prior, and provided Daniel Craig does full frontal nudity in the last 10 minutes.

My restaurant patronage has been all but eliminated. Take out once or twice a week, dining at a table once every two weeks. Servers need the money more than I do, and even though they have a better basic wage than before, I tip based on service. Minimal effort? 5-10%. Getting my allergy requests right the first time? they’ll get 20. Competence AND charm? 25%. I do not travel outside of US, and I will adjust my percentages according to local custom, if I am forced to travel, say, like if I was avoiding a Congressional Subpoena.

Instead of sitting around doing nothing, you should go get a massage!

Receiving massage is something that takes preparation and a mindset, and some of us have to listen to our bodies about whether today is a good day, before we set an appointment. If I find that my first choice may not be available, Ok, I’ll try him another time, and move on to second choice, third… Sometimes my necessary lack of planning results in no massage. It’s better than booking an appointment and then not showing, as a courtesy to the provider.
