I booked a room at Beck's Motor Lodge in March of 2023.  ...checked in and virtually abhorred my room.  I couldn't adjust the heating system to make the room warm.  The decor was atrocious; the bedding lame, and...  Because of my dissatisfaction, I packed my bags and went to the registration area and expressed my concerns.  I asked if I would not be charged for the night; fortunately, the attendant behind the desk responded that he would NOT charge me.

Since my wishes had been honored, I chose NOT to write a negative review at Booking.com, the site where I'd booked and the place where the photos for this venue are enticing.  Price wise I did not find this hotel to be lower than some of the better hotels where I've stayed.

I was there in early October, it was warm enough that I didn't have the heat on.  I'm not one to worry about decor; the room was large and clean.

  2. I really enjoyed the first part of Dune, but I was very disappointed in Part 2. The first part was very accurate to the book, the minor differences only improved it. Part 2 seemed chaotic to me, and veered off the book in ways that bothered me. And for the record, I'm not reflexively disliking it JUST because it didn't follow the book. What do y'all think?

  3. back in 2010 I stayed at Beck's Motor Lodge on Market Street.  A friend described it as the local no-tell motel, but I got what was called a Fireplace Room, if I remember correctly, and it was inexpensive and nice.

  4. in 2010 my family went to my nephew's wedding in South Carolina. My older sister proposed getting a big condo for all of us, which I vetoed (and I was reassured that I made the right decision at Thanksgiving at her house with the whole family, including her in-laws).  I got my own condo and begrudgingly said my younger sister and husband could stay there. She co-opted the main bedroom and I got the sofa bed in the basement, my niece ended up staying in our condo, and I was blocked out of the shower because my nephew was showering.  Younger sister and husband decided on that trip that they were divorcing. As bad as it was with two condos, I can't imagine how much worse it would've been if we did all stay in one condo.

My one wish for face cradles on massage tables is that they provide a better view, especially if the masseur is nude. 😜

Hahaha.  I remember one massage where all I could see was the masseur's feet, and a tiny bit of cheese he'd missed when cleaning up after eating.

    Rhubarb and Ginger Compote

Serve chilled by itself, or with lightly sweetened whipped cream, ricotta cheese or softened mascarpone cheese.

    Ingredients

    Servings: 4
    • 1 pound fresh rhubarb
    • 1-inch piece peeled ginger root, cut crosswise into 1/4-inch slices
    • 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
    • 1/2 cup ginger wine, ginger beer, unsweetened apple cider or water
    • 2 strips lemon peel (no white pith)

    Directions

    1. Step 1

Wash the rhubarb and discard any leafy tops. Cut the rhubarb stalks into 1-inch slices.

    2. Step 2

Combine the rhubarb, ginger, sugar to taste, and one of the following—ginger wine, ginger beer, apple cider or water— and the lemon peel in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir and cover. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the rhubarb is tender but not falling apart. Take care to stir the compote occasionally, or it may boil over.

    3. Step 3

Uncover and cool to room temperature. Discard the lemon peel, if desired. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate until well chilled before serving.

    Thank you so much!
