  1. There is some data (I’ve not verified) indicating the spikes are worse is areas with mask mandates than in those without.

As you well know, correlation does not mean causation. There is likely a third (unknown) variable (e.g. population density) which is causing the effect. From a logical standpoint, how in the world would "mask mandates" even remotely cause a spike in virus spread?

  2. Hopefully this doesn't need to be in the Politics forum. I've been watching election results on MSNBC since Tuesday night, and frankly, I'm in love with Steve Kornacki, the guy running their board. And he's gay! I just found when googling for an image of him. He came out in 2011.

Steve tells an amusing story of his first gay sexual encounter via an online chat room when he was a student at Boston University. His story probably sounds a lot like many others on this site, esp those who grew up in a devout Catholic family.

  3. What is it with plastic surgeons? I’m friends with one too, and he has similar views.

I don't want to hijack the thread further but I will add that, although initially plastic surgeons suffered financially from Covid due to a drop in elective surgeries, they are now going gangbusters given that their patients can now hide their treatments by recovering at home or even venture forth in public while hiding their "scars" behind masks. Plastic Surgeons should be grateful. At the risk of overgeneralizing, I know a PS in Kentucky and yes, he is a Prima Donna also.

  4. Franklin and Winston: An Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship by Jon Meacham. $10.99 paperback at Costco, originally published in 2003. Kind of granular but would be of great interest to history buffs. Shows a crafty FDR and and even craftier Winston.

Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam. Been on the best seller for a while - $15.99 at Costco. Have only sampled a few pages but very readable.

The Last Juror by John Grisham. This is my 10th Grisham book since lock down - I bought about 15 of them off Craigslist last year for just a few bucks. You just can't beat Grisham for readability and interesting plot (though a couple of them ended sadly).

  5. Getting stood up is a common occurrence, as everyone on here knows. Last year I set up a threesome in Indy and one dude had already shown up. The other dude texted me, 15 minutes before our appointment that he was "one the way." Then 5 minutes before our meeting he texted "turning onto your street." That was the last we heard from him. He contacted me a couple of weeks later wanting another chance. When I asked him what happened last time he came up with some lame excuse or another. He was hot enough to tempt me into another appointment, but nope, it's the principle of the matter.

  6. I don't follow sports much, except for MLB where I cheer for the Yankees, the Orioles, and the White Sox. On rare occasion I will watch a little pro tennis. especially when super hunk Rafael Nadal would play. The sight of that bounteous bouncing bubble butt was a wonder to behold and I could watch that juicy watermelon ass jiggle around in those tight white shorts for hours. However, I caught a photo of him in USA Today at the French Open (w/out his usual sweat band) that startled me when I realized that he is losing his beautiful Mallorcan head of hair. It doesn't diminish his overall sexiness esp those wonderful and fully intact arse cheeks, but it does remind me, once again, that "hair today, gone tomorrow" - a story that many of us know all too well.

  7. I've never had any experience with Apple products but I bought the Ipad Pro 2020 12.9 inch a couple of months ago. I use it to read my daily digital newspapers but mostly I wanted to have access to Facetime - which works great on an Ipad Pro (besides using it to call family members I've also used Facetime to verify escorts). Even though there are some features about the Apple environment I'm not happy with, I am pleased enough to consider trading in my Samsung S20 Ultra for the new iPhone 12. I've been really disappointed with the camera on the Samsung S20 - it's got so many bells & whistles that it overly complicates photo taking. Anyway, I highly recommend the iPad Pro Gen 4. BTW, the new software update expands the use of converting ordinary writing into text, which works great.

  8. The article sounded to me like a writer at GQ who had a deadline to turn in something, anything, for the magazine on Friday and didn't start thinking about it until late Wednesday.

“Once I see somebody in sweatpants, it’s like they both haven’t any should be presentable in anyway, or they’re so cool and assured they’re simply sporting what makes them comfy,” says Alex Gorosh... "

    Deep thought, indeed.
