The first reports were that the wind was around 25 to 28 mph at the airport (which would be only around 16 or 17mph). It was also reported that the wind was at 45 degrees to the runway. That would tell me that the pilot should have been crabbing the aircraft just prior to touchdown to keep his nose in the wind. At the last instant the pilot then has to straighten out the aircraft so it lands pointing straight ahead. This takes talent and experience. I’ve been on a flight where this occurred at La Guardia to our plane on an extremely windy night, much higher than 17mph. The plane was violently rocking just prior to touchdown. Then we could feel the plane swing to the right. When we touched down everyone broke into applause for the pilot. If you were to land with the plane still not headed straight, I could see how it could flip over. It was travelling at 120 mph at that point, which is 4 times the wind speed coming at it at 45degrees.

Just a coincidence but it’s the same model plane that was involved in the DC collision with a helicopter. A Bombardier CRJ900. This one flipped over on landing. It was windy but nothing extraordinary. Strange.

I’ve seen quite a few ads over the years where watches and coins were used to give a reference point for girth. Also a tv remote, a bottle or can of something like Coke Never a doorknob, which showed great ingenuity.

Neither have I. Shows a creative streak.

Me too. Effectively demonstrates his girth, which is part of his name, GirthFrank. That would be a hole stretcher.

The point at which being fat was considered attractive went out with the 19th century. The 20th century brought in the attitude you can never be too thin or too rich. My take is it had something to do with people in the Western world wearing slimmer and more revealing clothes after WWI. Before then fat was concealed by voluminous clothing. One simple example was swimming apparel. But the Roaring 20’s and the flapper generation changed everything particularly for women who started to show their legs and arms in both day and evening wear.

Actually, losing 40 pounds over 4 months is pretty drastic. If you stop doing what you’re doing you will gain it all back, and then some. You didn’t say how tall you are. That also makes a difference in how you look and carry your weight.

I look at this from another perspective as a bottom myself. It takes more preparation to bottom, often an hour or more. A top doesn’t have this bother; a three minute shower and he’s good to go. I read this escort’s ad as basically a bottom and $800 an hours seems reasonable to me. He’s actually worked for a couple of hours to get ready.

You should consider acting on your last sentence. Life is for the living. Don’t live in the past, although it’s fine to reflect on the past even on a daily basis. Just don’t fall into the past. That’s the way I am living my life and it works for me.

I remember Charlus now that you bring him up. I started on HooBoy back in 2002. And I vaguely remember his interest in Proust. Sorry you have lost his friendship and the other person you mention. Living a long life entails loss of friends and old lovers. It happens to all of us who enter the golden years. For my generation AIDS cut a huge swath through our ranks. I have many photos of those I lost. To see their vibrant faces in my photo albums brings back many happy memories and I don’t let it get me down.

Flying is safe until it isn’t. Statistically it is a safer mode of transportation than most. But like any mode that is dependent on mechanical devices and humans operating them, things can and do go wrong from time to time. The thing about airplane crashes is that they are spectacular but not in a good way. For most of us who fly a lot, we take the safety for granted. It’s only when we witness a crash from the media that we can put ourselves in the situation in our imaginations. We then tend to put it out of minds, thinking “that only happens to other people” . But of course one day that could include us. Not likely but not impossible.

How to profit from the tariff war?
Luv2play replied to marylander1940's topic in Personal Finance & Investing
Well to be wholly accurate I understand some tariffs were applied to China on Tuesday. One of them closed the $800 allowance for imports direct to consumers. Not only will 10 percent be applied but also the tariff on the goods in question, which were waived previously. This will be noticed as the trade had grown quite a bit in this area. -
Well there’s the other side of the story.

Who is the dream person to deliver my eulogy when I die?
Luv2play replied to + Just Chuck's topic in The Lounge
Isn’t that strange. A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine died and I am her executor. Yesterday I picked up her phone a landline and there was a message on it from me. Also 11 other messages that she had received while in the hospital where she died. I got her cellphone which had been at the hospital when she died and there I saw just a few messages on it. -

You don’t always hear the truth spoken at a eulogy. Several years ago I was one of four people to give a eulogy at the funeral of a popular politician who was a cousin of mine. One of his political rivals also gave a eulogy which contained a big fat lie. I knew it was a lie because my cousin had told me the real story and his version was more credible to me than what I heard in the church. However the person was not struck down by a bolt of lightning at the pulpit so who knows! -
Reminding us that are always two sides to the story.

Sounds like an enjoyable time then, apart from the lack of action once you got to bed. I might have tolerated it until the second night. Then I would have blown up.
-
I agree but it’s always been a labour of love for me.

Let me get this straight. He suggested the date. It was a weekend where sex was expected by you. He didn’t deliver. After three nights(and days presumably) he leaves. I assume you paid him a rather hefty fee. A three nighter usually would cost me north of 3k. And no sex, you say. What did you do all this time? Sit around and watch tv? Go out for meals? I just don’t understand how you put up with this for two and a half days. Regardless of all your previous dates with him.
-
I would have terminated the arrangement in the morning after the first night of no sex. But that’s just me. I always make it clear up front what I am expecting for an overnight or weekend session. Lots of sex!

Beachfront room is important. I loved the sound of the waves late at night to lull me to sleep and in the morning.

I was in Hawaii 40 years ago with my then new boyfriend. It was between Christmas and New Years and covered a week. We spent the first 3 days in Honolulu on Waikiki Beach and then another half week in Maui at Kaanapali Beach. Loved the contrast as the former is in a big city with lots of attractions and the latter more laid back for activities like sailing and snorkeling. The weather was fabulous at that season and I understand it’s pretty nice year round.

Another way of thinking about this is have you ever been asked to give a eulogy and do you think you did the departed justice with what you said? I’ve done several including for my father. What provoked this thought was that I was asked earlier today by a minister in a local church to give a eulogy at a celebration of life of one of his parishioners when it takes place, probably in March. I of course agreed since I am the woman’s executor and knew her very well. I hope I can rise to the occasion. -
And at least one other paralyzed from the waist down.
