I pretty much agree with your post, but I’d like to point out that there’s a simpler explanation for your Tumi example, rather than facial recognition: location tracking, which is also pernicious and much more ubiquitous thanks to the  tracking devices we all carry on our person.

I recently saw Kavalier & Clay at the Met. It swings big, I will say that. History, exile, and a superhero sharing the same stage; the mix doesn’t always cohere, but there are passages that truly sing, and the staging of the Escapist is worth the ticket alone. Imperfect, yes. Bold and memorable, absolutely. Turning Chabon’s sprawling novel into an opera at all is its own high-wire act. I left impressed by the reach, even when the grasp slipped.

If 600,000 people go through Penn Station each day, I can't imagine the public bathroom at Penn Station is a tranquil, relaxing, spa like experience. When a commuter needs to use a public bathroom, he is likely headed to a dirty, crowded space, with lots of people coming and going. A commuter should be entitled to decide who he exposes his naughty bits to inside a stall and not be exposed to federal authorities sneaking a peak through cracks and crevices.

In my experience with men of this ilk (of all sexualities), the younger paramour is a hedge against their own aging. It’s a kind of arrested development. They don’t want someone to age with as a peer. 
I also consider it bad form to have a younger man with you for 10-15 years and then toss him out with no resources. I dated a wealthy man 12 years my senior when I was 21. He was gorgeous - like a refined Harry Connick Jr, great lover, generous, and quite chivalrous. But when he talked about his college boyfriend, he was horrified that his ex had aged.
